I've been searching for a bluegrass channel like yourself! Thank you for breaking down the art of bluegrass. I've been working on scales and can read music but it's nice to see legitimate break downs and explanations of what's actually going on. Keep on keeping on!!

Marcel - this is great. Really like the format!! It’s great hearing your analysis of others but hearing a musician speak about their own music takes it to another level. And your skill/interaction makes for a great discussion. Thanks for putting this together - looks like a lot of work. And thanks to Trey!!!!

He’s not speaking about his own music, he’s speaking about freeborn man, recorded by about 30 artists

Awesome that when he recalled that lick from the Merle haggard song he also perfectly recalled the tempo of it so much so that you could play one over the other like you did. He probably hasn’t heard it in a long time too. Crazy stuff 😂

Thanks for this. Great stuff!! Trey is a monster in the alternate picking style! Next do a breakdown of Antoine Boyer's "Waltz for Angelo"; insane flat picking of a waltz by a 22 old guitar wiz who makes his picking reminiscent of finger style.

For reference- this is a Django Reinhardt lick. I didn’t see any nods to Django in the comments. I’m surprised no one mentioned it. Django likely got it from Joe Venuti.

What I would like to see you do is a breakdown on Dan Tyminski's intro and break on freeborn man.. I like that sound . (even though he says he's only a Rythm player) I love that break. Can you do it Marcel .. Can ya- can ya -can ya ?

The beauty of Tony Rice is , whenever you play Tony Rice and you don’t want to sound like Tony Rice, slip some other Tony Rice stuff from other Tony songs 😂😂 so true . I feel the same about Hendrix

The weird lick from the Merle Haggard song he plays at 8:29 (which I love) - two other examples I can think of where this is done is by Jimmy Page in The Firm's Radioactive, and Joe Walsh in Don Henley's Dirty Laundry. Glad to see this pop up again, I'm gonna try to use it.

Marcel what the F, LOL. You ask him a question about how he picks that weird lick and then cropped his picking hand out of the frame. 12:09 shows you had a full view of him, as does your reaction as you watched him. Can you clarify. He said he picks it D-U-D. That's fine but is it D-U-D D-U-D D-U-D repeated or is he alternate picking the whole time as in D-U-D U-D-U D-U-D as he traverses the strings?

Hey Trey if you see this, I ordered guitar picks from your website store. Paypal took the money out of my bank account but their is no record of my purchase on your site. There is no way to contact your website store on your site about orders so I am hoping you see this.

Hey...just stumbled on this. So sorry for the mix-up on my end. My website has been under construction the past few months, so the order must have gotten lost in the shuffle. Again, I'm so sorry about that! Please send me an email at trey@treyhensley.com and we will get this taken care of ASAP! Thanks for your patience and again, so sorry!

This video is proof of one thing: Traditional Blue Grassers cannot learn Tony Rice's classic FREEBORN MAN correctly,, so they just throw out whatever. Why? Tony donesn't use G major with a few sliding off of the blue notes at all-- he uses the BLUES SCALE, viz., 1 b3 4 5 b7 R,,, throwing in b5 for a good measure.
