Only movie I ever watched and probably ever would enjoy by him, and the only reason I know that name other then hearing about him turning into a turd sandwich is fast times.. so yes I am surprised and no I am not at the same time.
We had someone interview matt in Australia and asked if anyone ever says, "Matt Daaaamon" to him in real life. His answer was "every single day".. which I thought was great! Respect to him for being able to take a totally unjustified slur and still think its funny (because it was).
I remember reading somewhere that they when they first made Matt Damon's puppet, it looked "retarded," so they decided to represent him as such for the movie.
They come off as incredibly arrogant and false here because they were swaying elections and public opinion with this film, and if they didn’t know that they’re even dumber than they purport their characters to be. Which isn’t the case.
It could be phrased a bit better. If a puppet movie has potential to sway an election, it just show's how bad the political candidates to choose from are
Never saw the puppet movie, but it still proves my point. A political candidate who can't deal with confrontation in the public domain, has insufficient political capital to seriously compete
they are though. all liberal media tries to do that, including comedy. it's like how Seth Macfarlane constantly uses Brian as a mouthpiece to push his liberal bullshit.
oh please......at one time these guys were decent...but then they didn't like being labeled as left and felt the need to take up right wing positions which left them as nothing more than a couple of fucking pathetic fence sitters. Fling shit at everyone but not taking a stand for anything. Team America was the pathetic culmination of this apologetic crap.
doublestrokeroll I detect a butthurt liberal lmao. Team America is a work of genius. And when were these guys EVER labeled as left? lol Their work on South Park from episode number one 18 years ago was Libertarian leaning. You have no clue what you're talking about.
Your view is a narrow minded one of what is "left". Democrats are not "left".....what you think are "liberals" are not left. Their the same corporate whores as are republicans. When I say they were 'left' I mean in the sense of pushing "chomsky" kind of views. (which are correct...and true libertarian views by the way) Logical attacks on the corporate whore war mongering elite of america and the stupid sheep who fall for their propaganda. If you think team america is genius..lol...well then I feel sorry for you. You might want to try getting out more. You want genius? Read a Twain book.
If you want to discuss how politicians on both sides of the aisle are bought and paid for by corporations you'll find no disagreement here. In that regard I agree they are the same and we need some sweeping changes. But you're moving the goalposts. Obviously we're talking about the general American idea of left vs right being liberal vs conservative, with Libertarian being somewhere in the middle (Chomsky's insistence on the original European definition of Libertarianism is irrelevant. That's NOT what it means in the USA). They have always been consistent in their views. Your statement that they went more conservative is incorrect. They seem to have equal disdain for both sides and always have. Besides since when is ANYONE in the media industry accused of being "too left". That's a badge of freaking honor for them.
It's not moving the goalposts. it's americans having a ridiculously narrow political view. It's a fundamental FLAW of american political thinking brought about by the massive effect of propaganda. Chomsky's definitions are right on the money. It's impossible to have an intelligent conversation about political issues with an average american because their world view is so fundamentally warped. Parker and Stone used to criticize based on logic. Then (especially with team america) they decided they'd just attack figures that were considered "liberal" with no rhyme or reason. None of the critiques I ever saw them make about people like Michael Moore or Sean Penn ever contained any factual arguments based on illogical or wrong arguments they had made. They just skewered BECAUSE they were "liberal" and parker and stone wanted to seem like they were anti everything. Stupid arguments in that movie about how "sometimes it takes a dick to fuck an asshole"......lol...that's nothing more than fucking apologetics for american imperialism. In short it's a fucking bullshit excuse. The fence is so far up their asses they made their opinion completely worthless. Anyway...the way you talk...suggesting the media is "left"...lol....shows that you may be eating bowl fulls of the propaganda anyway. If you're not going to argue that both repubs and dems are different sides of the SAME coin....then you should more than realize that the media owned by elites is NO WHERE near being left. It's all VERY right wing. Obama is EXTREMELY right wing. Like fucking CRAZILY right wing. But that's not enough. And the fact that most people reading this will think my comment is insane...just shows how deep propaganda runs.
***** lets not forget about matt damon and worst of all.....ben affleck...and its weird cause i share 90% of their core beliefs...but its just that butthurt, overly politically correct,hyper-liberal pussy-ass elitist, hollywood douche attitude they have that makes me wanna go stand in front of a glaciar with a blowdryer just to spite them
The letter from Sean Penn "To Trey Parker and Matt Stone, I remember a cordial hello when you guys were beginning to be famous guys around Hollywood at some party. I remember several times getting a few giggles out of your humor. I remember not being bothered as you traded on my name among others to appear witty, above it all, and likeable to your crowd. I never mind being of service, in satire and silliness. I do mind when anybody who doesn’t have a child, doesn’t have a child at war, or isn’t or won’t be in harm’s way themselves, is encouraging that there’s “no shame in not voting” “if you don’t know what you’re talking about” (Mr. Stone) without mentioning the shame of not knowing what your talking about, and encouraging people to know. You guys are talented young guys but alas, primarily young guys. It’s all well to joke about me or whomever you choose. Not so well, to encourage irresponsibility that will ultimately lead to the disembowelment, mutilation, exploitation, and death of innocent people throughout the world. The vote matters to them. No one’s ignorance, indcluding a couple of hip cross-dressers, is an excuse. All best, and a sincere fuck you, Sean Penn P.S. Take this as a personal invitation from me to you (you can ask Dennis Miller along for the ride as well) to escort you on a trip, which I took last Christmas. We’ll fly to Amman, Jordan and I’ll ride with you in a (?) 12 hours through the Sunni Triangle into Fallujah and Baghdad and I’ll show you around. When we return, make all the fun you want." It sounds like he was complaining about the episode "Douche & Turd" which had been aired in October the same year Team America came out. Not about being made fun of. He's still an overly-serious pretentious douchebag though.
The only person Sean Penn insulted was himself for being offended by a PUPPET movie! These guys poke fun at everyone Sean Penn is no special snowflake. I always say your not famous if South Park dont make fun of you yet
I mean a lot of people pantomime while they’re talking. Ppl will instinctually look at their wrist when talking about the time even if they’re not wearing a watch.
Hhmmmm. Don't you think Trey and Matt, by their own use of creativity and widening the scope of traditional humor induce watchers to think more broadly than if the cartoons were never made? Thereby making perhaps a given potential voter question or consider concepts Good or bad, different or foreign to him initially that he mightn't have otherwise considered? and maybe simply voting differently here and there? Just sayin. Just asking
Ya, he went to Iraq staying at a the nicest hotel suites, eating at the nicest restaurants, hanging around in the wealthy areas and likely with an group of body guards. I frankly do not care about Sean Penn's opinion of Iraq.
This clip perfectly contrasts the two perspectives. Sean Penn proves what an arrogant, self-righteous moron he is by going through all that. Yet what's great about Matt and Trey is that they are very talented, bright, and witty, but they still don't take themselves so seriously like Penn..."It's a puppet movie dude" lol
At this point. Both Trey and Matt have so much influence they can do a parody of anyone they want and no one could do shit about it. Sean Penn is nothing compared to these two.
You know I gotta say this. I've been a very big supporter of these two. I remember when their show started to take on current events. I remember when no one would take them seriously with their ideas on Broadway. But they ended up creating the number one Broadway show (which I saw twice and loved very much). These guys are amazing. MAN UP!!!!
Sean Penn directed "Into the Wild." They filmed the beach scene by my hometown of Long Beach, WA at Cap Disappointment State Park. Sean freaked out because there were cars driving on the beach in the background. He demanded that the entire beach be shut down. This is 30 miles of open beach that also doubles as a state highway. The park rangers basically told him to piss off. Sean had a temper tantrum and spewed profanity and threats. The rangers just got in their Jeep and drove off. An asshat of epic proportions.
As a fairly liberal, left-leaning person myself; Sean Penn is everything I dislike about the uber liberals. “My opinion matters more than yours. Uncensored free speech...unless you disagree with me”. The left is so often a hotbed of hypocrisy.
Preach. It's embarrassing when people like Sean Penn undermine his own any leftist points of view. That idiot doesn't speak for me and many, many others.
@@GavinMorris1 Sadly the US media loves to promote the views of the half wits on both sides and make it seem like they represent everyone from their side. F CNN, Fox, MSNBC and their ilk. Dividing our country for money?
“”Wuss, you have terminal cancer and 3 months to live. We are so so sorry. Make A Wish has granted you one full afternoon with the celebrity of your choice” Wuss: “Get me Stone and Parker , and a small bong please”.
Before Matt and trey showed up, comedy central was a happy place. It had flowering meadows and rainbow skies, and rivers made of chocolate, where the children danced and laughed and played with gumdrop smiles.
Sean Penn showed up while I was serving in the army providing aid to Haiti after the earthquake in 2010. He would get his photo with aid workers and hang out in a compound inside ours eating Omaha steaks and drinking bottled water.
The movie irked a lot of people who place themselves on the "left" or "right." Satire works well when it comes from the middle because it can point out the absurdity of extremes from both. Anyway, I may agree with some of Sean Penn's positions, but the guy is one of those that paint "every one who doesn't agree with me 100 percent is evil" sort of like the opposite extreme with the tea partiers (who South Park also skewer). If he can't laugh at himself, maybe he needs to re-examine what sort of person he is. If SP parodied a nobody like me, that would be the highlight of my life for years.
I used to feel the same way but have you seen Milk? When the people who knew Harvey are saying that Sean Penn WAS Harvey Milk then an Oscar win isn't undeserving.
When you make a parody of a person's behaviour, and they hear about the parody, and they don't watch it but send an angry message to you, and in the rendering of this message proceed to behave *EXACTLY* like the parody of themselves, that's the sign that the parodists were right.
Agreed... I love Sean Penn as an actor, but basically despise him in real life. Trey and Matt are genius's and Team America one of the best movies ever. I crack up every time I think about the opening 10 minutes.
sarah twining Penn is good at one thing only and that is acting. If he would just stick to that and keep his politics and far left BS to himself then he could be tolerable. Hell, the best moment in Gangster Squad was when Josh Brolin's character is beating the hell out of Penn as Mickey Cohen.
+Star Star Most top-tier comedians and story-writers would completely disagree with you. People couldn't stand them at first because they shook everything up with controversy. But time showed they were extraordinarily gifted at both satire and story structure. But you go right ahead and keep being a grumpy Gus. Maybe people will notice you some day for your talents.
Even Alec Baldwin said he enjoyed the movie... which might not be the truth, but the only thing you can do in a situation like that is to take it on the chin with a smile on your face.
