Very nice running session! Those signals are quite nice, Triang seemed to be pretty good at making trackside accessories.

Hi Paul. I know what you mean. I have always got plans to do this or that! now I've converted a few I now need to install a few more on the layout! Just need to find the time and its too hot at present! Oscar

Hi Oscar, a good look at the light signals. I haven't got any of them yet but they look easy to convert to LED's. Thanks for the info. Cheers, me.

Thanks Michael. I had converted the yard lamps first with a similar method. Although the yard lamps do benefit from one of the contacts being soldered. And I had a number of these signals in none working condition for some time. You can find the bulbs for sale occasionally but they seem to cost more than the signal sets. And when I did get a red and green bulb that worked from two separate signals and installed it on the layout the green bulb had gone by the end of the week! and that was with a nine volt supply as when reading about them in Pat Hammonds book it suggests using them with a reduced voltage Tri-ang clam 15 volts AC or DC. So there seemed nothing left to lose messing around with LEDs at 8p each and it works. The yard lamps are straightforward to convert as well. With the original bulbs in the get very hot and switch them selfs off as things heat up! or maybe this was just a way of making the bulbs last longer! I will try and cover the lamps in a video when time allows. Oscar

Very nice conversion Oscar, I will be showing people how to remove the incandescent bulbs from a Bachmann Virgin Voyager and replace them with LED's, as soon as I can, I also loved your locos/trains...Simon

Thank you Kevin for the complements. And glad you are enjoying seeing the layout. I will try and get wagons with there loads in a few more videos. I have covered a few in the past and there are more to cover. But in the meantime have a glance at these videos ( links below) they may be of interest. Many thanks again for watching and taking the time to comment. You can still buy the bulbs to fit the signals they are made by a make called brawa they are available in red yellow and green, your conversion looks better and cheaper and I may convert my Hornby Dublo signal lights over to led Brilliant filming again

Hi Paul that's great to know the name of the manufacturer who still makes these tiny bulbs. I will lookout for them but as you say this conversion seems to work and is also nondestructive and at 00.09p per LED its worth a go I think. What the housing like on the Hornby Dublo signal lights. Is it a similar construction. I do have a small collection of Hornby Dublo items but sadly none of there Colour light signals. I do have some of there electricly operated semaphore signals which I think are terrific. It's strange that Tri-ang never went down this route. I think Hornby Railways finally did some on these lines in 1973(R.400) but very crude compared to the Dublo signals and the R.086 signals could be electrically operated with the addition of one of there point motor control sets R.663 in the late 70s early 80s! Thanks Paul for watching and taking the time to comment. Oscar

Oscar Paisley brawa 3272 red 3273 brawa green brawa 3274 amber don’t know if triang did a caution signal but it may be something you could do and wire into your automatic signals

Thanks for putting your wiring diagram up for the signals Oscar. I’ll have to rethink my Hornby Dublo electric lights now! And also, “points 8” on your layout seem to operate simultaneously. Are they operated from one switch? Or two switches with a bar joining the levers? Just curious. If operated from one switch, does it “drain the juice”?
@oscarpaisley

Good afternoon Andrew. Hope there was something of interest there in the video. All of the electrics on my layout are very basic. points 8 change as a pair from a single switch. And they throw together quite well. All the points motors are fed from a 16v ac outlet socket on one of the H&M Clippers I use on the layout. This feed runs via Capacitor Discharge Unit CDU. This gives them quite a kick! The CDU clams to be able to throw six points at once. I think the instructions have contemporary point motors in mind. Not all point motors are equal especially when they are 50 years old. The CDU I have was sold in a polythene bag with a Guagemaster header card. The instruction are on a piece of the paper less than A6 in size apart from claiming to throw six points there is a wiring diagram and that's is. I have been reading about and considering replacing it with a heavy duty version. I think these old point motors and heavy points would benefit. Hornby Dublo used to make rubber device to enable two switches to move together. I'm not sure this was meant for two points together though. I think maybe a point and Isolating switch. As I don't think there electrically operated points were isolating. I've seen a picture of one of these in a catalogue but never in for real. Possibly the material used disintegrating rapidly? Points No 5,7,9 and 10 also operate as pairs on the layout. Thanks again Andrew for watching and taking the time to comment. Oscar

Hi Oscar, I've just found this video and have some 405 lights which need to be re-bulbed. However, I seem to have a different design as my bulbs do not push out and are wired through from the backplate to the connectors. Have you come across these, if so can you advise how to convert them? perhaps the bulbs are screwed in, I don't think I can unscrew them without cutting a groove in the contact dimple. Any ideas?
@oscarpaisley
@oscarpaisley 2 года назад
Good morning John I've not come across any of the bulbs being screwed in on these colour light signals from Tri-ang, all of the ones I've come across have the push in type bulbs and are held in by the back plate with a single screw through the centre of it with the wiring to the contacts on the back plate. Sounds like an interesting variation or possibly they have been modified in the past. In their original state they can be quite unreliable. Take care. Oscar

It seems a shame that they haven't ever been reissued by Hornby Ok they are underscale but they are far more effective than the current Hornby Colour Light Signal.which in my opinion is too coarse.
@oscarpaisley
@oscarpaisley 6 лет назад
It does seem odd that they are persisting with the current one, as you say its a bit coarse. especially when they are going to so much trouble to detail their locomotive and stock at present. Oscar
