LOVE the inter-party drama. Too often are parties all "best friends" and heroes. I feel like the tensions that had been building for so long finally came to a head this episode. I need that Action Surge! You guys killed it with this one. Now go have a beer and hug it out.
Genuinely feel a little let down the teacher in the comment above hasn't swept in to point out that it should be 'intra-party' and not inter-party. Feel like a decent joke oportunity went unanswered...
As a teacher I very much appreciated the "the bell's for me not for you". Granted, my educational institution doesn't have bells but the sentiment still stands when I see students packing away before I've finished.
Friends or not, roleplay or not, having this sort of collective pressure on you, shouting from all sides - personal, directed, unrelenting... it's very hard not to take some of it to heart. I thought Hollie handled it brilliantly. Great RP from everyone. Seriously though, I thought the tension in this episode was genuinely excellent - Off the back of some of the most team-building and light-hearted episodes, this was a proper wake up call. I really hope you all get to continue this series - it's really, really good.
Words can not describe the sense of pure joy I felt discovering that a new episode has dropped! Take me away to the world of Reliquiae, where I can quench my parched DnD throat.
Seeing how much Hollie and Ben actually get on in real life, it's so cool to see the very real tension between Endellion and Raidion. Both Hollie and Ben play it so well in this episode. The final moments of this episode gave me literal chills. The ante has been upped significantly and I can't wait to see how this affects the relationships between the party.
One of my most anticipated shows. Oxventure, Chaotic Neutral, and Natural Six I have been with since (almost) the beginning. I love them all, but there's something extra special here. I'm happy to support your ongoing journey now the Kickstarter episodes are done. Here's to a long future of fun, growth, and great stories about great characters told by great players. As ever, thank you to all
This episode was so annoying in the most narratively satisfying way. Even within universe, it becomes blatantly obvious what Endellion's secret is. the cat's already out of the bag but she doesn't want to admit it and hates that she's being forced to. So, she just refuses to play ball. She's not stupid, she knows the potential risks of pissing the party off right now. She knows her actions may actively hurt her cause, but she's just too stubborn for her own good. It's so painfully human and I love it. Flawless storytelling/roleplaying on all fronts.
Endellion was stubborn and I loved it. I would've tried to tell endellion. "Maybe you can go to the golem and trick it to thinking you're one of the family" she may not be that dumb, but it would've been fun to try.😂
Loving the series so far. I'm currently watching a couple D&D campaigns but I always return to this one, as it got me into the game. The players being new and slowly becoming more and more experienced really makes a newbie like me feel like I'm progressing into the world of TTRPGs with you guys. Love from Sweden❤
I had lagged behind a bit but I'm almost caught up know! I wish you continued success and more natural six episodes. Also shoutout Hollie because I see her in the comments sometimes and I'm loving Endellion's current arc
2 mins in and i am already so excited for this. also, love how it's so apparent even on screen that hollie and ben has just grown closer by virtue of being seated next to each other across these episodes. love all of you guys so much!
Commenting because I can only like it once, definitely one of my favourite episodes so far! Puzzle-y dungeon crawling and character drama in one episode? Delicious. Also, in the midst of the golem encounter, I really enjoyed the description of the Grenwyrd crest on its chest, some Redwall references up in this business!
I am so happy to see new episodes. I need one every day this is so good. The tone, the players, the DM (seriously better than some of the biggest names out there).
Always leave a comment for the algorithm. I have to say this has very quickly become my favourite series on RU-vid. I look forward to it every other week. Let's keep this story going.
I live for interparty chaos, just enough to give the drama meaning. Some of my fondest memories of my first campaign were the drama that the party had as our characters adjusted to one another and learned things.
Also just a note since this has come up a couple of times. Hypnotic Gaze has the creature under the charmed condition, the spell specifically states that they are also incapacitated and cant really move/speak. So the castor couldn't actually convince the target to do anything. They just stand there dazed by the pattern The idea is that the creature is charmed by the hypnotic pattern, not by the castor, and that creatures immune to charm aren't affected by this spell. However it's very cool to see Harry interpret the spells and if you wish to use it this way it's you guy's game and you're more than allowed. Rule of cool and all that. It's certainly been interesting I just think Ben/Radion might like to take the "charm person" or "suggestion" spell for easier use in the future when he wants to manipulate someone
Came here from Patreon just to say, Excellent episode as always! So happy to be a supporter 🫶🏼🙌🏼 Now off to like and reply to a bunch of comments 😆 for the algorithm!! ✊🏼💓
I looove the drama and the character moments! I usually like to patiently wait with the release schedule for the action surges but I think I'm gonna have to go sneak a peak right now 🤭 Also props to Hollie! It's incredible to see how natural she is with the RP, I can't even imagine how tough it must be to stick true to the character even in the face of brewing party tension
There are a lot of D&D campaigns out there on RU-vid, but I find very few of them enjoyable to watch. If they're not an actual tabletop live play I will not watch. I make it a point to watch Natural Six and Critical Roll. You guys keep up the great game play!
Wuuuu DND Baby, my favourite chill part of the working week 😊 *sips tea* got on Patreon but watch here to boost on YT 👍 and then after I can jump into Patreon for action surge yay!
Again such a great episode. Loved the different feeling in comparison to the last episode, where the group was travelling and meeting various strangers. All the dungeon crawling and puzzle solving was very intriguing. And the tension in the end... I am really curious how it will affect the whole group dynamic. And as a bonus I kind of got an answer to my patreon AUA question concerning Radion and his bag full of spoons. Thank you for another amazing episode and wish you all a very lovely day.
There were some interesting traps and puzzles especially with the lettered floor. I think someone mentioned one of their favorite movies was Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. It reminded me of the floor where Indy had to spell out the name of God.
Great stuff. I do wish the group was a little more cautious about meta-gaming in the RP though; the RP is of such good quality overall that it's quite noticeable when a character jumps to conclusions in a way that doesn't align with what the character actually knows. Might've been more interesting if Endellion had been able to sneak into Maus unrevealed.
I don't think there was a way for Endellion to sneak in Maus without them knowing. She wasn't really hiding it well and Then the trials she just so happened to know. She was either family or a really close friend.
Especially as she's been shown to be a terrible liar. There's only so long Endellion could have managed to keep the "secret". For a while, it had been the rest of the party humouring her/respecting her decision but there's a limit. :)
I'm not going to lie too many times have I encountered a D&D campaign where they go through little of the characters backstory, I hope this doesn't happen lol
Only a little bit in (22 mins), but I thought meets it beats it when it comes to rolls? (timestamp should indicate what I'm talking about without spoiling)
Technically it's an opposed check where they both have equal values. The passive score doesn't just become a DC. However the actual rule for settling the tie should have produced the result you expected though. Can't tell if this is a slip up, the result of a house rule or ruling that Harry made on the spot. Not that it matters much. The RP result was a net positive.
@@MorinehtarTheBlue thanks for the clarification! I wasn’t annoyed about the result, as you said the RP result was interesting, it just jumped out at me when they had equal results!
Another great episode, curious about what happened with the Spinner telling Dolly to give things to the glome last episode though. Did i miss something where she decided to ignore the order?
Probably just lack of opportunity. It's not like she's going to be foolish enough to give the game away by trying to go straight to the Gloam. But no she hasn't made any decision whether she will follow the order or not.
I don't think they've ever done one, but then again there's never really been an opportunity - they've been trying to be quick in-universe most of the time and stopping for an hour would slow things down. There's probably also the fact that most of the players are new to 5e or DnD in general, and there also isn't much benefit the part could get from a short rest other than healing (which they have the "Healing Surge" variant rule for anyway). The fact that they're doing this for a show possibly also influences their decision making, as that would slow things down. TL;DR: they probably do, but just haven't really felt the need to.
If something has a damage radius of 20ft, are you able to use that as an "up to 20ft"? So, passing an attack roll would let the caster choose up to 20ft, for example they could send a Fireball but with more precision, aich as a 5ft radius, if they rolled high enough? Need a 14 to hit, roll 14 it's 20ft. Roll a 16 and you choose 15 or 20ft. Roll 18 and choose 10, 15, or 20ft. Roll a 20 and you can choose it to be a 5ft radius. The better you roll, the more precise increments of 5ft you can choose, up to that 20ft max? I haven't ever played dnd. The scene in Canterbury is almost non existent, and being 37, when i try to join beginners cafes etc I get laughed out by children or "inclusive" people who don't like my tattoos as they deem I dont look enougj like them. I've never come across such a gatekeeped hobby in my life, and I don't argue back as it would just be bullying a bunch of people who clearly hide from real life. Anyway, point is I like the idea of a spell being up to a certain radius
Sorry to hear that you haven’t had great in-person experiences trying to learn DnD! It’s a shame when genuine interest like yours is shut out. - Have you ever considered trying to find an online community that is more welcoming? I know there is more and more of that happening these days, as the ttrpg world is expanding super rapidly right now. To answer your question about spell range: rules as written allow the casting of a spell at any distance *up to* the stated length, so a spell with range of 20ft could allowably be cast at 5 / 10 / 15ft for “free.” In this case, the point of targeting would be the origin / center point of the fireball, so then a circular radius around that point would receive the fire damage. There are some fun house rule options though, for casting variously farther or more precisely or more “creatively” as it were. A GM might ask the caster to roll with disadvantage, or with a certain difficulty Arcana skill check, for example.
Man Harry is a great dm but you can tell the others aren’t used to dnd. Ben constantly comments on things that his character wouldn’t know. Someone else makes a roll and Ben is the first to comment on it
Has anyone else been unable to prevent themselves re-mixing Harry's surname? I'm used to seeing the name spelt 'McIntire' and MacIntyre' but McEntire is wholly new to me and every time I see it my brain starts bubbling over with 'McTotal, McComplete, McAbsolute, McUtter and Mc100%'. I need to get a handle on this before it gets out of control. McWhole. Stop it. McOutright. Sorry. McThorough....
Didn't like that last play. Not exactly a question of morality. There is always a player agency problem when you allow a player to coerce another player with skill checks. Even granting that a spell was involved it only gives advantage on the check. Most DMs I've played with don't allow that kind of thing and for good reason. Thankfully the spell save was made.
Given what Hollie did immediately afterwards, I think it was probably fine - the secret was going to come out in this episode one way or another. We also don't know exactly how it would have played out if Raidion did succeed, but I doubt Harry would have directly forced Hollie/Endellion into doing anything. Given the nature of the campaign, and especially the premise of why the party is together, I'd assume they would have talked about this sort of thing happening. Edit: also, it absolutely makes sense in-character: it is absolutely something Raidion would do, and for a game that's just as much a show as it is a home game, it is something I think should be allowed to happen in this context. Definitely not something to do in a home game, however!
