Simplicity is best. A motor that can be repaired, and parts that can be refurbished with a bit of imagination. Now when my wife asks me what I’m doing with her bi-carb, my answer will be met with “what do you do in your train room”! Great video, and a great little loco Mike.👍🏻

You got a nice bargain there. I like your bi-carb super glue cocktail. It does the job. Reminds me of my late father using chewing gum to splice together two wires that we disconnected on the under body of a camper van type vehicle. The wire never came undone again. Bill and Janet from California

Great to see. I had the blue one - Nellie I think but was sadly lost in a house move. Could be a useful tip with your special superglue. Those old Triang locos are quite possible to keep running and I enjoy keeping them running. I have a couple that could be a bit older than 50 years! Then there are the even older original Hornby Dublos…

What a lovely gift 🙂 A bit before my time as Hornby had moved on to the little D class as their basic tank engine by then. This certainly has a superior chassis though. Not that there is much wrong with the D class, it's just a pocket rocket. That's the second time recently that glue mixture has come up. I must give that a go at some point. Never thought of it in that application though. Duly noted. Hopefully I will start the C14 kit soon. Just need to finish a Caledonian coach for a friend first. Give me a little 0-4-0 and a circle of track and I will be entertained for hours 🙂 Hope you are well.

Hi Mike - What a lovely update, really enjoyed that and what a lovely guy Pat is. I love your videos, doesnt matter that they are OO gauge. Watching you take them apart, expalain what you are doing and then cleaning and repairing them. Always find them interesting and where on earth did you get that tip re Baking Soda, brilliant idea. Ive been testing my locos on my test track that I recently built and my N Gauge MiniTrix Jinty which I purchased over 40 years ago and was an excellent runner 3 years ago seems to have developed a problem. I gave it a minor service and it ran well, but after awhile it makes a slight funny noise and appears to keep slowing down and then surging whilst on the track. This happens with or without a rake of trucks on the back. Weird thing is that when I put it in reverse it runs fine, again with or without a rake of trucks. Im worried about taking it apart and appreciate that I eventually will have to but have you any idea what the issue might be? Regards Chris
@ModelRailwaysUnlimited
@ModelRailwaysUnlimited 4 месяца назад
Hi Chris, very many thanks. Can you get to the commutator on that Jinty? If you can a drop or two of contact cleaner might help.

I came here via the link you put in your video on the Caledonian 0-4-0ST. I have one of these with a can motor. No doubt about it, they have a charm of their own. i didn’t know 25550’s dome came from Lord of the Isles! I nearly bought the green nº27 yesterday, but the seller wanted £25 and it was missing a coupling rod and 3 out of 4 steps, so I came away with a 3-rail Dublo 4MT 2-6-4T instead for the same price. Still on the lookout 👀 for these though. There’s a great article and "colour plate " (as they said back then) in "Triang Railways - the first 10 years" with a weathered version of Nellie by Terence Cuneo.

I really like the Hornby class 06 and Bagnall diesels as well as these little 0-4-0's and the Holdens and Pugs. I've built up quite a collection of them over the last couple of years, all at less than £20 each and most of the Holden's between £5-£10, some basically new in box, and have an idea for a railway run purely using them, just need to sort life out first.

@@ModelRailwaysUnlimited Mike, thanks and I'm fair to middling. Looking to make a video on fitting an arc-flash unit that only triggers when units leave a con-rail off ramp... Interesting challenge that means the reed switch and magnets have to be off-set! Wish I had your technical abilities with video production - Colin.
@ModelRailwaysUnlimited
@ModelRailwaysUnlimited 4 месяца назад
@ewhurstgreen ooo sounds interesting, is it done by conventional reed switches?
@ewhurstgreen
@ewhurstgreen 4 месяца назад
@@ModelRailwaysUnlimited You will have to wait for the video..... 😄 . . . Each come with a reed switch and two circular magnets with the intention of being positioned centrally in the four-foot. Except that means the arc will trigger when the magnet passes over irrespective of which way around the unit is facing. If the magnet and reed are offset than the only problem cones with reversible lines - a set of contacts in the signalling will make them uni-directional. I've bought some rectangular magnets to fit inside the bogie frame below the secondman's position. The other problem is on my copper-clad built turnouts the reed switch sits too proud so the positioning of arc units will be even more restricted.

@@ModelRailwaysUnlimited All fine with X04, same gear as the DMU/EMU motor and same size as the 31/35/37/em2 which had it already moulded on the plastic axle. Fits fine with the gear, just make sure it not wobbling on the axle (sits exactly square on)
