I worked for Royal Mail for 38 years. Two years were spent at a sorting office in West London (Hounslow). There was a great mix of races. The vast majority of us got on really well. Even down to jokes that wouldn't be acceptable today. The Sikhs were the best. They were friendly accepted life in this country. And, more importantly, when they had their festivals they would bring in food from their culture and cuisine. It was always appreciated and I made many friends amongst my Sikh colleagues.

The car contained the Royal Crown inside with a guard sitting with it. Many times you will see Scottish pipe bands marching along this road because it is the main road from the castle to the house of the Royal Palace in Edinburgh. Many hills to climb, so if you visit make sure you have healthy knees :)

As a tribal person myself from Scotland (Clan Gregor😊) its great to see our indigenous culture being shared with fellow tribal people. Although the army and police of the Sub Continent all have a string tradition in military pipes and drums, a legacy of Scottish military influence during the 18th and 19th C.
@Missiebob1
@Missiebob1 16 дней назад
I was born and raised in the United States, my family originated in Scotland. We are also from Clan Gregor. My dad has traced our family tree back many generations to well before the Crossing. He started teaching my sisters and I about our heritage when we were young, and even took bagpipe lessons! We joined Clan Gregor here in Washington state. When I was pregnant with my youngest I was hospitalized for preterm labor. One night, there were pipers on TV. The TV had a speaker connected to it that laid on the bed. When I would move it from one side of me to the other, my child would roll across to be closer to the sound. It was so magical! Took him to his first Highland Games when he was about 1 year old. The pipers atarted playing far off in the distance and he sat straight up on the stroller, straining against the straps and began turning his head and looking for the pipers. My dad was so excited! For his first 5 years, he liatened to pipe music every night to go to sleep. Two years ago I bought both of my kids and myself a tiny piece of land in Scotland. They were so excited!! I love how much these individuals love the sights and sounds in this video!

The regiments have particular colors. Traditionally Scottish clans (tribes you might call them) have a certain pattern and colors to their plaids. The kilt was a really effective garment for men in Scotland. What is in this is a modern version/dress version. A traditional kilt was/is different. It served as cover in bad weather, a camping blanket, to discretely hide things. A multi purpose garment.
@jaygee5693
@jaygee5693 Год назад
Good comment, the kilt was very versatile. Not meaning to be pedantic, but they are wearing tartans, which are more than just plaids. Tartans bear family, clan or community names, some originating as early as the 3rd or 4th century. In this video they are regimental tartans, probably dating back to the early 1800s. Tartans distinctly identify the wearers as members of a particular community. Plaids are criss-cross patterns of 2 or more colours. Edit: Ok, I was probably being pedantic. Tartan has probably become common usage for plaid nowadays. I'm 73, so I remember when the difference was distinct.
@rhiahlMT
@rhiahlMT Год назад
@@jaygee5693 Maybe. 😀 I didn't go into it because it was too much information for this video. I don't own a kilt, but I do have some things in the modern Colquhoun tartan, one of the clans of my ancestors. A really nice jacket and some scarves. Yep, I'm pushing 67 and remember the difference. More from a Scottish American perspective.
@jaygee5693
@jaygee5693 Год назад
@@rhiahlMT I watched a documentary on kilts a few years ago. Showed their evolution from a coarse woollen 'blanket-wrap" to todays tailored, pre-pleated, expensive fashion statement. I don't think I have Scottish heritage, but maybe. Surname is Gray. I've always enjoyed watching Highland games and dance, and, of course, listening to bagpipe music, all in small doses though!. Lots of Kiwis have Scottish ancestry, so the culture is quite strong here.
@rhiahlMT

Fun fact: when someone says "the whole nine yards" the phrase goes back to the Scottish great kilt which was 9 yards of cloth.
@rickncam3
@rickncam3 Год назад
During war time, the sound of bagpipes approaching the enemy must have been a terrifying sound, especially if they had never heard them before. Wearing the traditional kilt and scaring the enemy out of their wits, these 'ladies from Hell' as they were sometimes called were some of the most feared soldiers then and remain so today. But far more than terror to the enemy, the bagpipes bring pride from Scotland and a culture spread worldwide.
@grahamstubbs4962
@grahamstubbs4962 Год назад
You wouldn't think bagpipes are particularly scary, but on D-Day the Germans actually refrained from shooting the piper because they thought he'd gone mad. The bagpipes were there to encourage the troops. If you hear that noise, best hope it's from your side.
