The man in the orange is fantastic. He made me want a pecan pie and I hate pecan pie. (Too sweet) He’s convinced me I am wrong and it is indeed a miracle food.

Every single spice used in these pies have their origins from the Indian subcontinent. You should also try South Indian food...their use of coconut is amazing.

Its always nice to observe staples of a region to be incorporated into dishes of another. My meals are overly simple but I'd enjoy something I haven't tried before.@@meghnac78

@@thecraftinista Pecans, yes, but the style of pie used walnuts previously in england, before america was named for the italian man who "discovered" it, Amerigo Vespucci. frito pie is the only pie from north america because fritos are the only actually american food, which makes sense since theyre corn chips (however corn chips are actually spanish..) Americans have so little claim to anything, so i'll just let you believe whatever. Hard to build a culture based on theft cause nothing belongs to you

@@elisemiller13 As a person who has made pie crust from scratch... it isn't actually complicated OR difficult. It takes a little practice, that's all. It's one of those things you can only really learn by doing.

Is halwa.the same as halva?

Halwa is one of my most favorite desserts, and my mom's is the best I've ever had. There's nothing I can really compare it to from western foods. I guess you could say its similar to pudding somewhat. Yes, I've seen it spelled halwa and halva. Most Indian sweet shops most likely have it, but the best is always home made. ❤

Halva is great. You can find it in the supermarket in many parts of the US, if they have a Jewish section, which is kind of completely wrong (really an Arab food that Israelis enjoy, not unlike shawarma, hummus and falafel) - but, you know, soy it goes. My grocery store has both Jewish and Middle Eastern sections and I think it's in both of them, sold in a form like a candy bar. It's unfortunately hard to find unflavored halva, usually it's vanilla or chocolate.

Halva actually originated in 7th century Persia (modern day Iran) and has spread throughout the Middle East, South Asia along with the rest of the globe in recent history. There are many cultural iterations of this delectable dessert ranging from Iranian, Kurdish, Turkish, Israeli, Arabic, Indian, Greek, Azerbaijan and many more. You can find it here in the USA in many middle eastern food markets. Be warned, it’s high in calories, extremely addictive and incredibly delicious! My personal favorite, if not home mace is the store bought pistachio flavor. Enjoy!

You should! I've substituted walnuts for pecans in my chocolate pecan pie recipe and it was fine!

In walnut-producing states like California and Pennsylvania, walnut pie is a popular alternative to pecan pie.

Well Pecans are only native to North America and Mexico, so they don't have Pecans readily in their country, Walnuts are clearly the closest approximation they would have to what a Pecan even is. you know how when you try something you've never had before but say a friend has tried it and you ask them, so what is it like? Say Flan in Mexico, imagine you've never had it and ask me, What is it like? You've never had it so I would give you a close approximation of what to expect, I would tell you it's like it's sort of like a pudding, or sort of like a custard, and when you actually try it, you would have a decent idea of what to expect.

Unless I was particularly determined (and thought I could make stubborn determination as endearing as these fellas do), I would not continue to call a given set of stairs ‘that hill’!

Well, they probably did, but depending on the calories they burned that day. It's the net calories that matter.

They gain weight just like you or me; the difference is that they don't eat nearly as many calories on a regular basis.

is that why their pies are always so flat and sad? it should at least be the height of a fork. i shouldnt only be half way down the forks of a fork and hit plate.

People make do with what they have. It's not like everywhere has easy access to the pie pans we have in America.

Tbf, I feel like 65% of the world is decent folks, and the rest are just ruining it for us.

Men from the Middle East do not have the same ideals as those in the west, our cultures are completely different. Aside from that, if we take Al of the hard working intelligent people, who stays to build up their society? We need to stop taking anyone that doesn’t believe in our Constitution or God given rights, Japan is one of the safest places. America used to be, what changed? People need to stay in their countries to fix them, these people crossing our borders are fighting age men, same as Italy, England, Greece, Germany, and the list goes on, that’s invasion.

I think this is a great idea! Maybe they could first watch how these are made and then eat the food they've just seen be cooked step by step. I noticed that they were able to pick up ingredients and scents incredibly well, so I think they'd have a lot to say about the cooking/baking process. Maybe they could even compare how they cook versus how other people from different regions and cultures cook. I would also love to learn about food from their part of the world too!

ALL the time is a great time. I can get morbidly obese off some apple pie or better yet, apple crisp, served with old fashioned vanilla bean ice cream.

Why don't you just go make some pumpkin pie this Thanksgiving then? Or whenever, but obviously it's a Thanksgiving classic. Either way, it's really easy to make. Just don't forget the whipped cream on top too

Also, speaking of curry and pumpkin..I once made a curry with a type of pumpkin sauce base that was actually really good too lol Oh someone actually just mentioned that right after I typed this
