Tribal People Try Potato Cake For the First Time 

Tahir made me laugh today imagining the quarrelsome vegetables and the relaxed potatoes! He even told a joke!

Tahir mentioned that potatoes keep relaxing. So now we understand the origin of the term “couch potato.” 🥔

I love potato pancakes too, especially with green onions and sour cream on top. I once had potato pancakes with a side of Crab Rangoon. I was in heaven as I cleaned my plate. 😁😋 It's funny to see them cut it with a fork then eat it with a spoon. 😆 We Americans either eat them with our hands or just use a fork to cut and eat them. Another awesome video! 👍

Thicker potato pancakes than I'm used to, grandma made hers with shredded potatoes with flour, egg and onion yum. Also served with either applesauce or sour cream to go on it. Be Blessed. 😊🇱🇷

I may be Italian, but I love potato latkes (pancakes) extra crispy with sour cream or applesauce. Not a big fan of the ones made with mashed potatoes though.

You can take day old plain mashed potato, combine with flour and a pinch of baking soda and salt, then fry in butter (or ghee... omg that's so naughty!) They really needed good plain yoghurt or sour cream with that “potato cake.” Greatly increases savory, rich flavor.

I'm American but my heritage is Polish. We serve potato "pancakes" (placki ziemniaczane), similar to what is served here, with sour cream and apple sauce on the side. Very delicious.

Interesting, in their culture, and mine too ( Hispanic) we associate the word cake with sweets, like a birthday cake or a wedding cake. Probably, because we all took that word from the English language, where are different kinds of food items that can be cakes, like this potato cake, crab cakes, pancakes, etcetera. So it explains perfectly how they go surprised initially, by not having a sweet cake this time.

In the old days cakes were fried in a pan, on a wood stove. Corn cakes, flap jacks (pancakes), potato cakes. A lot of baking was done in skillets and dutch ovens.

Watching this video, I was suddenly struck with wondering how these gentlemen would react to good, old Tater Tot Hot Dish, from the Upper Midwest (like around Minnesota). Not spicy enough for them, I suppose, but enjoyable by rich or poor, young or old, and I can't even imagine what Dr. Tahir would make of the ingredients, and what they are good to treat.

Potatoes are great! The ways they can be prepared seem endless.

Yeah, English uses words in a few different ways sometimes. Yes, there are sweet bready "cakes" for like birthday parties or as dessert. But there are also things like crab "cakes," fish cakes, potato cakes, which you could also say something like "patties", IE a small round/flat shaped thing that's been patted together, or patted/pressed flat into like the shape of a hockey puck... I know, it's confusing when the same words are used slightly differently in different contexts. ;)

We put butter and Mable Surup on the sweet potato cakes. On the grated potato cake and onion we put apple sauce and yogurt or sour cream.

Back before people had microwaves, mother made potato pancakes with leftover mashed potatoes. Flour and egg were mixed with the mashed, patties made and fried in butter - delicious, especially if there was also leftover gravy. After I moved away and married, I thought I would be clever and do the same with leftover baked sweet potatoes - not to be recommended - they were nasty. Mr C had a good idea though, putting cheese in them would be wonderful!

I am going to be one of THOSE people.... My dad made the best latkes/potato pancakes, so much so that our non-Jewish friends wanted invites to our Hanukah parties just to eat (not a lie). They would have LOVED my dad's latkes....but I am glad they enjoyed these just as well

The shredded potato ones I make. I like them better than the mashed ones.

We even use a spoonful of mashed potatoes as the binder to make mashed potato candies.. nothing but powdered sugar with a spoon of potatoes til you can roll it out, spread peanut butter on it, roll it up and slice it into bite side slices

This is one of my daughters favorite side dishes. Please if you can make the gentlemen some potato/peanut butter pinwheel candies. These candies are a treat in my area. There are many recipes online to choose from.

Some people eat it with apple sauce and sour cream so good.

I make these and call them potato 🥞 pancakes. We put sour cream on them. Yummy 😋.

Many things are called "cakes''in Western Cooking that are not the sweet ones.Potato cakes,fish cakes,crab cakes.It is a disc-shaped fried thing held together with starch and usually egg.My dad made the Irish version many times for me as a child.Mashed potatoes,a little flour,minced onion and a beaten egg fried in leftover meat drippings.There is a very crispy version called latkes I ate many years later which used shredded potatoes and served with sour cream which are also delicious.

We don't always eat a bread with potatoes because both are starches.. we use to much more often but today have been taught not to eat too many starches together which turn to sugar in your body. But if having mashed potatoes with dinner we will still many times serve a bread or biscuit. We're weird.. lol.

I don't know what was in those cakes besides potatoes but the way they all just polished their plates like that make me want potato cakes
