I feel attached to all four of them. So kind and respectful. I think the makers of Tribal People Try have achieved their goal - it has broken down stereotypes and is giving me a greater understanding of Pakistan tribes. Thank you to the creator Akram Akbar. Most importantly thank you to the men that appear in the videos. Peace be with all of you. x

I absolutely agree with you. On another videos comment section, the commenter commented (sorry for the redundancy 🤣) about never thinking they would be addicted to something like this. It's so true, with all the hate and negativity available for us to click on even, it's so wonderful to find wholesome fun. I love watching them smile and laugh, while stepping out of their comfort zones, to experience new things, and to spread their joy with others. Whenever I'm feeling down about myself, whenever I'm feeling out of touch, I turn on Tribal People Try. It helps me put life into perspective, it teaches me to enjoy laughter, to enjoy the little things we all take for granted, it teaches me to enjoy discovery, and gifting their findings to the rest of us. Love these folks so much

As a Pakistani it is my duty to tell everyone that when casual Pakistanis say spicy, by that they mean only the hotness of the dish. Say if a dish has 1000 spices but no chili or hotness, according to a Pakistani that dish is not spicy and lacks spicyness.

The rice is just normal steamed/boiled rice. The sauce is called Dal, very common throughout the Indian subcontinent, you can find many recipes and videos about it, so you can easily make the dish without waiting for their specific recipe, which they might now give. After all it's like a tomato sauce in that region of the world, everyone has their own way of doing it following a few basic ingredients and principles.

I'm not familiar with this dishy, but the Dal is apparently a curried lentil sauce, with tomatoes and green chilis and onions - red lentils seem to be a primary ingredient. If you don't have any of the traditional spices and herbs available, they're basically the sort of thing sold mixed together in ordinary US grocery stores as curry powder and garam masala, and garlic and ginger also seem to be part of the flavor. It sounds like one of the versions in the video had shredded chicken mixed in as well, which sounds to me like a fantastic addition to me. I think chickpeas were mentioned a couple times as well - I've cooked before dried green lentils together with canned chickpeas and onions in a wok, seasoned with curry powder and garam masala, ladled onto rice, and that really is delicious, and I'm sure chickpeas would go just as well with the other ingredients, but they don't seem to e strictly needed. I take it from the video that the taste profile should be relatively subtle and mild, but I like the spices, and the curried lentil and chickpea sauce I invented before got a lot of heat from the garam masala, so I loved it, but I guess it depends on one's taste! Whatever the case, it seems to be a pretty easy sauce to make, and one that really lends itself well to some individuality and invention.

Loved this video! Based on everyone’s description, I think Gul Sher should have won! 😁 Also, may I suggest you post a video of reactions to each other’s comments about the food? For example, I would love to see Tahir react to Rana’s comments about his rice, and vice versa. In fact, let them watch the video footage of eating each other’s dishes. Keep up the good work. Your translation is still below par, but keep working at it. Your non-Punjabi friends deserve to understand exactly what these gentlemen are saying, not just an approximation and/or abbreviation.

Tahir is so gracious with his scores! Rana seems so stingy lol... Unlike how things seem in other videos, where he seems really jolly! Anyways great work guys! Love the videos.

Chickpeas I like. But I haven't tried the black cumin yet that I ordered. What I read is they get kind of a nut-like taste if toasted which would enhance the faint nut-like taste of the way I cook chickpeas.

You would probably love kala chana (black chickpeas). It's not on most restaurant menus but tastes amazing.

I have never met a dal I didn't like. I wish I could taste their dishes and get their opinions on my own cooking. I think my palette is so wimpy when it comes to spices that my dal would be lucky to rate a two from Mr. Rana for being bland. He's a very tough food critic! I'm enjoying these cook-offs. It's so much fun to watch their reactions. I couldn't stop laughing when they were guessing on who made the dish they were eating. Dr. Tahir is a very good guesser. I'd love to see a video of him cooking for people in the village some day, so that we could get an idea of how we might be able to help him with that worthy effort. Maybe we can end hunger in one village.

I love these "food rating" videos very much! First because those of us who are unfamiliar with their traditional dishes ..get to see and experience the critiques of the different cooking styles they love! And second they give their input as to what makes them great to their tastes ..I had no doubt about who would win....Mr Chaudhary must be an excellent chef! I wish I had enough money to be able to buy him a beautiful new stove with an oven!

@@oscarsusan3834 I was thinking more along the lines of Westerners rating non-Western recipes. Or if you prefer, examining cultural differences in tastes and unique palates. But this is most likely beyond the scope of this podcast. BTW - Many NON-Western ethnic cuisines are extremely popular here in the U.S. Personally, I’m a long time customer of Kalustyan’s in Manhattan, and have been frequenting the Kabab King restaurant in Queens for years. The owner is a Pakistani immigrant and the waitstaff primarily from Bangladesh. I will admit, however, that Americans are extremely lacking in foreign language skills, and many don’t see the value in learning a second language. Most likely, and I am only speculating here, it is because English has been adopted as the language of international business. I am fluent in Spanish and English. Oddly, and perhaps MOST curious though, as an increasingly higher percentage of Americans become interested in cultural traditions other than their own, the phenomenon of cultural appropriation has sprung up which seeks to prevent this trend, rather than encourage it, which I find both maddening and sad.
