I saw a homemade version of green bean casserole. Looked so good. They made a roux of butter, flour. Poured in heavy cream or milk.... A bit of salt, pepper. Added sauteed onions, finely chopped mushrooms. I always used cream one can of mushroom soup and cream of chicken.. Or cream of celery is ok. Never made it home made... They say you can use canned green beans.. French cut or regular. Or frozen.. Just thaw them out..get all the water off.

The thing with Mustafa that I noticed is that he has to see what the food is made with or out of. I am sure that if he were to be given goulash for example, he would still like it because he would be able to see all of the ingredients that went into it. I used to think he was just picky and grumpy but the more videos I watched, the more I grew fond of him. He's just a man who is happy with the simple things and doesn't crave all the fancy and processed stuff.

In Canada, we celebrate Thanksgiving in October. Along with the turkey, my family usually likes to have mashed potatoes, cranberry jelly, a green vegetable or two such as broccoli and/or brussel sprouts, corn, carrots, turnip/rutabaga, stuffing, buns/bread, gravy, salads, and some kind of dessert, including pumpkin pie or apple or both. Stuffing is a savory bread pudding. It goes well with fowl of all types. It is also a thrifty way to use unwanted or stale breads. Use at least 3 cups of stale bread, chop 1/2 onion, 2 ribs of celery, 1 Tablespoon of sage, and 1/2 liter of chicken broth (full fat). Let the mixture sit until the broth is absorbed, then bake in a moderate oven until the top turns brown and crispy. Serve with the fowl, and gravy is optional.

Different household do indeed do it differently. Even a single dish can have 100 different versions. Stuffing can be made with almost any sort of bread, or there are some without it. I've seen it made with nearly no vegetables at all (just a tiny bit of onion) and no butter. Figs, dates, nuts, bread, carrots, celery, mushrooms, sausage, oyster, onions, raisins... it just varies. I personally don't like Mac & cheese for Thursday, but it's a godsend Friday to go with leftovers.

Thank you for sharing this. The tradition is about sharing bounty with friends and family. I hope they understand the spirit and love. I really enjoyed this and wish our friends great health and success.

Was that croutons because I didn't see stuffing? It starts out as something of a crouton but then spices and vegetables get added to it along with a broth then backed preferably inside of the turkey. Still, thanks for trying.

For mine, I use about half sauteed onions and celery cooked in butter with salt, pepper, and sage, and half seasoned shredded bread (Pepperidge Farm is my go-to stuffing mix). Then chicken broth to moisten well. Then into a pan, a little oil sprayed over the top (or turkey fat and drippings basted over), and into the oven to crisp up the top. Served on the side as dressing. My favorite dish at Thanksgiving!

@@FirstNameLastName-wt5to Yes, we always called it dressing, because we always made it outside the bird (speeds dinner prep up, and we preferred it that way, both succulent and a tiny bit crispy on top). Pepperidge Farm, however, calls their product stuffing mix.... perhaps they should more specifically call it stuffing/dressing mix.

The only thing you missed was gravy! (Made with the turkey drippings, of course, adding bits of the turkey meat, too if you want. Grandma always added the offal, but no. Not me!) However, the stuffing should have been mixed together. Many people stuff it in the turkey, which is where it gets its name.

That feast is an impressive undertaking. Thank you for sharing our holiday meal with them. The first thing I noticed was that there was no gravy!! Essential. And were there fried onions on top of the green beans? That's an important element. And whipped cream on the pumpkin pie. The turkey is traditionally cut and served and the other food dishes and bowls are passed around the table for each to serve themself. Cranberry sauce is not meant to be eaten on it's own. It is meant to be eaten with turkey or other food for the correct experience. Always enjoy the videos however.

This holiday celebrates the Pilgrims' having survived the year and the bounty of harvest (with the help of indigenous people, who had shared their land, their food, and taught them how to cultuvate their crops). We cook stuffing inside the bird, or make the same dish as dressing, and cook it outside the bird. Great turkey impression, Mehboob!

@annainspain5176

In point of fact, England has celebrated the Harvest Festival since the Middle Ages at least. All the Pilgrims did was adapt it to what was available in the New World. All agricultural societies had some kind of Harvest Festival, it's even in the Old Testament, China, Japan, ancient Greeks etc.
@LindaC616
@LindaC616 2 года назад
@Marc Carran yeah, I knew this would come up. Just listened to the Sachem of the Mashapaug Nahaganset tell it this way Thursday night, as a matter of fact. The first years, that land was "loaned" or "shared" with the English settlers. And yes, later they went on to steal that land. But that was not the spirit of the first year's meal. And he also tells the story to correct the local version, which is that the white settlers *generously* invited their indigenous neighbours to share in *their* harvest (not being from RI, I'd not heard that version). We're on the same page. The steal just hadn't happened yet.

@2:01. Ha Ha Ha Ha...=D... It's a chicken that has "either been fed too much or plumped by many injections". So true brother. I love how the Reactistan People have no filter when it comes to commenting about our culture. FYI, on average, most of the turkeys sold during Thanksgiving are on the 6th-month to the 8th-month lifespan. Most likely, the baked/deep-fried turkey that will be sitting in front of your table, will be saturated with steroids and GMC chemicals beyond your imagination. But then, I like the comment of the gentleman @6:24: "Alhamdulillah I'm happy that they eat such pure and healthy things...and do not consume junk food. Thanks to them for such meals..." Such comments are so heart-touching!!!

Well, biased opinions aside, I'd like to personally thank the villagers for trying some of our Thanksgiving delicacies and giving their thoughts on them; To me, Thanksgiving shouldn't only be about the food and gluttony, it should be about the company of others, from various backgrounds, engaging with one another while feasting at God's table and praising Him for all of the goodness, even if it isn't much. To suffice, I intend to celebrate Thanksgiving in my own special way, even if it is just me, myself, and I; you're only truly alone when you think and feel like it, so drive it out from your heart and think only of the benevolent aspects and the divinity which radiates within. So live for today, and pray for a better tomorrow; especially during the most trivial of times. Well, I'm just about done here and have to move onto the next. Bye for now.

It should be important to point out that the “Feast of Thanksgiving “ has its roots that go further back than the Pilgrims at Plymouth Rock. It was a harvest feast where a family or community would put on a feast and feed themselves on the part of the harvest that could not be preserved over winter . This would include a large portion of the male livestock of things like chickens etc. So that the remaining livestock stood a better chance of surviving on what feed farmers could fill their barns with.

I wish that the producers had gotten an actual recipe for the Stuffing. It's supposed to be small bits of bread like 1cm cubed, that's been moistened with water or stock and flavoured with very finely diced onions and celery and herbs. The wet mixture is the stuffed inside the body cavity of the raw turkey - hence it's name "Stuffing" - and cooked inside the turkey. When the turkey is cooked, the stuffing is removed from the cavity and served alongside the meal. It should be a moist fluffy mass almost similar to mashed potatoes in texture.
