fun fact, we had no idea this was dropping. we got a mysterious "d-7" picture on twitter with no context at all. it was a countdown and every day was just mass confusion. some smart armys said an album would drop on d-2 as suga's second mixtape after agust D but this was a complete guess. i got up at 2am (with a ton of armys) cuz that's when stuff would drop back then just hoping something would drop and we got the daechwita mv... with the whole album. i listened to it for the first time at 2am after being awake for 5 min lol ill never forget that. its an incredible album

Man, I love you for spoting Jin and Jungkook, hardly anyone notices or doesn't know them when watching the MV of Daechwita 😭 ngl, the first couple of times I listened to Daechwita, I didn't pay much attention to the lyrics and got carried away by the sound of the traditional instruments, and that makes me even more excited knowing that 해금 (Haegeum, D-Day) will have a similar sound and probably the continuation of this story line!

Super interesting getting some additional historical references. I think I watched Bookish Theories' explanation instead. Lol none of army were ready for this. He dropped it 2 days before we were expecting. Yoongi likes to create chaos & watch our reactions. He did the same for his Tour announcement - he came Live on Valentine’s Day & feigned missing army just to wait & see our reaction in real-time before dipping. This album is so good. So emotional
D-2 is one of my all time favorite albums. I hold “28” so close to my heart. He did such an amazing job on each of the songs. I’m so excited to see him perform some of these songs live for the first time on his tour 🤩 He mentioned in a clip that’s in his upcoming documentary that he actually received an acting script because of the Daechwita MV 🤣

"if you feel like you're going to crash then accelerate harder you idiot" - the line is originally from a bts song (nevermind, the word Jimin has tattooed on him) which is such a powerful song and makes the verse hit that much harder in moonlight.
I love Moonlight so hard.... just the casual way he drops into the song to introduce the album, like, "oh, right, time for another album... I guess we're doing this!" I'll add that another common interpretation for Daechwita's two characters-- King Yoongi and Rebel Yoongi-- is that the King represents his "monster ambition," the aspect of him that just wants to gorge on that forbidden fruit and climb that ladder of success, no matter who gets hurt or how much he doesn't actually *want* the spotlight, while the Rebel is older, wiser, more even-keeled Yoongi who has achieved all his youthful dreams and now just wants to set his feet on the ground again. And even though King Yoongi thinks he holds the other captive, with the help of BTS and the support of ARMY, Rebel Yoongi is able to outsmart the insane King and put him down for good.
In many ways Yoongi has No Chill. He will call you out and read your for freaking filth in his music and honestly I’m here for it. D2 levels up from D1 so much. But his beats and abilities as a producer are just so far above 😂 and he knows it. With his rap abilities in top it’s crazy. Moonlight is one of my top favorites for so many reasons especially when I’m in a rut. Daechwita is a work of pure genius, how he used traditional Korean instruments with a trap beat is crazy creative and his story telling is top tier. It’s funny how for like 6 years or more the media and other companies tried to make a big deal that BTs would weasel out of enlisting and here he lays it out “nope shut up don’t use our names yes we are enlisting”.
I don't think the hyunta was ONLY about flexing though, it's not been easy on BTS. Fame has a lot that comes with it, and he's been really struggling with it for a while since 2017. It was both a flex and a reflection that hey, this isn't it, I don't feel great cause dreaming doesn't make sense anymore, I wanna be more grounded now. He's talked about it since then too.

I think the King is his anger, greed, ambition etc. and as one of the lyrics talk about having a reality check and now putting his feel on the ground, I feel like now that he's reached such heights he wants to focus more on himself as a person. P.s, I prefer Bookish Theories explanations better then DKDKTV's. I hope you check out her videos some time.

Another way the Daechwita music video is most commonly interpreted, which makes more sense in connection to the Agust D mixtape and also the later Haegeum MV, is Yoongi rising up to kill the tyrannical, corrupted version of himself controlled by greed and hatred. Notice that the King has blonde hair - this is a direct reference to the blonde-haired 2016 Agust D, who was so full of anger at the world that he lost sight of what was important. This becomes a repeated cycle throughout the Agust D storyline, of killing the version of himself that has become polluted by power and purging himself of his demons, only to become that very thing he sought to kill. This is the most popular interpretation and the one that Yoongi himself has spoken about!
27:10 idol music is what the west calls kpop music btw - idol music is not seen as "real" music with substance in Korea - until BTS entered the scene. suga and rm both went through a major identity crisis early on because of being shoved into that disparaging box as people who are very serious about music. it happened to them in Korea by being referred to as idols instead of artists and in the west by being generalized under common kpop stereotypes (fake, fabricated, cheap, exploited etc) instead of just being put into the general categories (kpop instead of pop/ hiphop ) with their western peers

one of my favourite things about this album is how raw the recording is ie. In people, if you listen with earphones in you can hear the little whistles from his nose when he breathes in between verses. Idk it’s a small detail but makes me appreciate his producing/recording work!

that line in What Do You Think? about how people “tried to get a free ride [exemption from military service] by selling [BTS’] names” is a direct reference to the conference that took place in 2019, when BTS were reaching their peak in the West, where several of the CEOs of the biggest kpop companies met *without inviting BTS’ company* to ask the government if idols that reached a certain level of success could skip military service (as with some Korean athletes), and used BTS’ success as collateral despite the fact that BTS weren’t even represented and the other kpop acts hadn’t even come close to BTS’ success. In the end the government granted an extension to 30 years old (instead of 28) for the cutoff for military service for very successful idols that represented Korean culture internationally, but the conditions of “success” meant that only BTS could qualify LMAO (and to this day, no other kpop acts have qualified, thus gaining the law the nickname “BTS law”)

Even though that explanation video gives very interesting details, I don't like it much as a whole, I think it over interprets. Besides the references and symbolism, when you understand what they mean, they actually unlock directly the meaning of Yoongi's textual words. I don't think this is so much about BTS and Army as it is about him facing himself. Yoongi said in a live after the release that the blonde Agust D was also called "anger". This is more about his own desire for revenge or for karma towards those who wronged him and made him suffer so much. Blonde Agust D let it all out in D-1 and partly in D-2, but here already comes black-haired Agust D who rebels against his own path, which would lead him to madness, by killing his anger. Btw, no one knows if blonde Agust D is dead, and we will find out about it in this last Agust D album, D-Day 😁 edit: typos corrected ehe

19:05 you can't overstate what power the big entertainment corporations in korea had and have btw. it's different from the US in that the corruption is way more extreme. the big three labels have corrupt connections to media and politics and small artists like bts got regularly taken out when they started to grow over their station. bts was heavily attacked and sabotaged too. scnadalous stories were masde up and planted in media, internet trolls were bought to slander them, during music shows they were made to change in the hall in front of the toilets while big three idols got dressing rooms and laughed at them. their perfromances cut and canceled last minute, SM even tried to buy bts to disband them when they started to outgrow SMs own boygroup Exo. Bang PD refused despite being broke and saved them
If you ever get time to delve into bangtan's history, it would be very easy to understand what or which incidents yoongi is referring to in each of his verses.
