Revising comment because a lot of people keep explaining to me that Goblin was not reincarnated . We are way past that part on Patreon ha ha. I guess it was supposed to be obvious on episode one but regardless the show will naturally clear up that plot point and many more you don’t have to explain it because we didn’t get it the first time but there’s no way to finish this series and not understand a Goblin has been around for 900 years or who the goblins bride is. We thought his help was reincarnated impossible to think once you see all the gravestones in Canada. You guys understood pretty well on your first watch. Kim Eun Sook's a formidable writer (she wrote this drama and The Glory, as well as a lot of other critically acclaimed dramas). She's also written another drama I think you all might like, called Mr. Sunshine. It's another one of my personal favourites, and it's got everything going for it. I feel like y'all would love it.

The Korean title of drama is '도깨비(Dokkaebi)'. Dokkaebi is a character in a folk tale that has been handed down from the long past in Korea, and strictly speaking, the concept is very different from the Western 'goblin'. Therefore, it would be more appropriate to use the Korean title, 'Dokkaebi' rather than the English translation of the drama title, 'Goblin'. As you already know, actor 'Gong Yoo' who plays the role of a Dokkaebi is a person wearing a suit who used to slap the main character in another drama 'The Squid Game'. He was already a famous and popular actor before, but he became a more complete superstar through the drama 'Dokkaebi'. Also, the old grandmother who protected the little heroine in the drama is '삼신할미(Samsin Halmi)', a modern interpretation of a god-like character who predicts a baby (young life) in a traditional Korean folktale. Lastly, 'Grim Reaper' is also a character that often appears in traditional Korean folktales and serves to guide or bring the dead to the underworld. I think this grim reaper is probably the character with the most similar role and personality to the grim reaper from the West. The drama 'Goblin' is a well-made drama that had a huge success and influence in Korea at the time, and is a good mix of meaning of life, romance and humor. You won't regret it after watching it. The little girl plays young Eun Tak acting is so good, I cry like a baby everytime with that scene of her realize her mom is dead

I'm not a kdrama person but goblin is actually one of the few that I enjoyed (totally not forced to watch it 👀) so I'm gonna enjoy this reaction series as well 😂 Also the ED song is the best.

Kim Go Eun is one of my favorites. I've watched all the TV shows she's been in. Moving on to watch all her movies next. She's amazing.

To be fair, he was probably in his early 20's when he died if you consider the time period. So technically, they're around the same age. When I first watched this, I just kept telling myself, "He stopped aging when he died. They're around the same age. He cannot aged if he's dead." Lol

This drama was so huge when it came out & goes down as one of the best of all time

Oh yeah~ It's been a few years, but it's still the K-drama that Koreans love the most, and the writer of The Glory made it a super hit. From the ost to the lines in the drama, it was all the rage for a while. It's nice to see you all happily together again.

This was the first kdrama I watched for my introduction into the kdrama world. I'm excited to see others enjoy it as much as me. Also, one of the only kdrama that made me cry

There's honestly a loot of goody good kdramas from 2016-2017 and im glad you're watching one of them now!

GOBLIN, LEGEND OF THE BLUE SEA and HOTEL DEL LUNA need a crossover series. KIM GO EUN has a beautiful singing voice too. She sings with (he who kissed Jisoo) Jung HaeIn on begin again season 3. That entire season is brilliant,TAEYEON is soo amazing!

Tbh, people always label this one of the best k-dramas but I, too, had to do mental gymnastics because she's in a school uniform for a lonnnggg time and it's W E I R D. I kept telling myself "she's 19, that's legal age in the U.S., she's 19 that's legal age in the U.S." But it's reallyy hard to get through. The thing that kept me going with the show was the Goblin/Grim Reaper relationship and eventually the Goblin/Grim Reaper/Sunny relationship. I couldn't get invested in the main storyline until much, much later when there's a --- *SPOILER* -- time jump. - The writing is veryy good (like, SO GOOD) and so is the acting, but the kid thing and her always being in that school uniform was just too weird for me.

I'm so glad someone on RU-vid is FINALLY reacting to this show. It's one of my all-time favorites. I hope you guys enjoy it, it's equal times funny and sad.

Best kdrama ever!!!! I've rewatched it like 5 times (count since it was released until now)! it has everything like a very great storyline, actors, and characters. Every scene is just so beautiful! I wish Korean made more romance fantasy dramas like this TT

This is my #1 to this day. Talk about iconic!!! GONG YOO first of all. LEE DONG WOOK as an absolutely perfect mood of a grim reaper. The best bromance in kdramas. One of the most beautifully produced and funny dramas. So sad and beautiful and lovely and one of the best OSTs in existence! Get ready to be wrecked over this beauty.

Drama TIP : There are many different gods in Korea, and the identity of the grandmother in the drama is "God" called "Grandma Samsin" Grandmother Samsin is a god who presents children to parents and manages their children's health.

This show is so magical. I watched it like so many times. You're gonna love the characters, the story, the plot, the cinematography, the bgm and the soundtrack.

This is spoiler free (and very long I'm sorry) but here is an explanation of the reincarnation thing. I'm sure y'all already know by now but basically the Goblin is immortal and has stayed his same age since he "died" back then. He can't stay in one place too long because the mortals would notice him not aging, so he lives in one place for a while and then moves once a handful of years pass. Other shows have also done something similar - like the Cullen family in Twilight moving around a lot and their "children" having to repeat high school. In some cultures, sometimes it's said that people can be reborn with the same face once in a while, which is why the child from his original life (the era when he became Goblin) and the present time's Deokhwa looked the same. Deokhwa and his grandpa are descendants of the elderly man and child who vowed to serve him. That same family has taken care of the Goblin for many centuries, always protecting him, handling his assets, and ensuring that he's moved around properly when the time comes. They are some of his most cherished people among a few others around the world who he helped throughout the years - like the struggling boy overseas who he gave a sandwich to and broke the step-dad's ribs to help him find the strength and time to talk to. The elderly man who is taking care of him in the present time said he wouldn't be here during his next "life" because the Goblin planned to leave for overseas for that extended period of time since he had been in Korea for a while now. It was time to move on again, but the old man is reaching his final years in his life so he knows that if the Goblin leaves that he wouldn't see him again. The next in line to serve the Goblin and handle everything is Deokhwa. Also some other notes but Ji Euntak's mother looked at the ring the granny had back then, but didn't take it with her. The granny still has the ring. And the main grim reaper in the story (bc there are a whole bunch of them) knows the goblin because they've brushed past one another a few times, but they didn't know each other on a deeper level. They just didn't like each other very much from the start. No grim reaper ever tried to take the Goblin's soul after his mortal self died back then because it was God who gave him his punishment in the first place. Their distaste for each other is mainly because the Goblin can cause them trouble if he revives people and it makes them have a lot of paperwork.

As a Korean, I wonder why the translation became Goblin It's called do-ggae-bi, a legend of the intermediateism between ghosts and monsters, and it shows up at night to play tricks or ask for confrontation, and it helps and bothers people depending on their mood It's similar to Japan's oni😊

Nice , i was lucky enough to watch it as it aired and created a whole craze and buzz ... it's really taking me back . If you enjoy the whole supernatural romance k-drama vibe , and even if obviously different than Goblin , i'd suggest another good and more recent drama "Tale of the Nine Tailed" featuring the ever excellent Lee Dong-Wook (seen in Goblin and Stranger from hell) . it was popular (and good) enough to even receive a sequel , and might continue yet again

Omg! Goblin is still my favorite kdrama to this day and I doubt that any can ever top it. Gong Yoo is such an amazing actor and I love that the writer was so set on getting him to play the lead even if he is an older actor. Goblin is supposed to be ageless at this point so they could have casted a younger actor but it wouldn’t have been half as good honestly. I can’t see any other actor as Goblin.

The acting, writing and soundtrack in this show are so close to flawless. The aesthetic and visual effect component was a game changer back then, i remember.
