Tribes Ascend - Doing Work as Light Defense 

I think buffing explosive impulse across the board was a needed change, but the nitron nerf has certainly hurt chasing ability and Pathfinder capping speed. I hope more tweaks are in the works to make chasing more viable and reduce the overall reliance on Sentinels.

Depends on the resolution of your monitor, but I'd guess you're looking at around 40-60 fps on medium-ish settings at 1080p. The 6850 is a bit long in the tooth at this point, but if you popped a better video card in that PC, it would be a very capable gaming system.

If you're looking to play competitively, find one or two roles you enjoy and then practice to get very proficient at those roles. Also, I'd recommend participating in pickup games (PUGs) to work on the coordination and teamwork that are essential for competitive play.

Because it's virtually impossible to get pub teammates to leave the flag in the field, even when it's in a secure location. I obviously wouldn't return like that in competitive play. :p

As far as I know, no doubt! It plays Battlefield 3 on Ultra at above 60fps.. so some f2p games I would guess easily at 100fps. But either way, if you have to turn settings down from Ultra to High, you wouldn't notice aaany difference in the game except more fps. Just youtube 7850 battlefield 3 or any other game, its a good card and it'll handle whatever games you play :) but dont take my word for it, youtube it

Hey Brandon, I would like some advice. My family is building a new PC (and so I will soon be part of the PC master race :D) and I am wondering how well it will be able to run Tribes: Ascend because I am really interested in playing it. The PC will have a 2500k in it, with 8GB DDR3 ram, and a Sapphire Radeon 6850 with 1GB cache, how well will this run Tribes? (would you be able to give me a ball-park estimate for fps?)

Most of the automatic weapons received nerfs across the board in a recent patch. Automatics are still pretty powerful, but I think their balance is more reasonable now.

I believe you, seeing as the 6850 will do decent(and the 7850 has 2GB cache/memory... Twice as much as the 6850). Also i saw that the 560ti also has only 1GB cache, so would that make the 7850 alot better than it, or does the fact that alot of games are designed for Nvidia cards make them run alot better?

Might be worth mentioning that you should not always return the flag right away. If the flag goes into a hard to get position which is not part of any routes, it makes it a lot harder for the other team to grab it. Often on pub matches this doesn't matter though, as a teammate will almost surely pick it up instead.

I personally can't stand flag capping on a public server. Too many bad grabs, no coordination with offense, and of course the idiot heavies who llama and die 3 seconds later. Flag defense and chasing is all I'm ever willing to do on a pathfinder because of this, and personally I've taken a liking to it. So I'm glad you've discovered it as well. ^^

I'm very glad you like my videos, but I have a job that requires weekly travel, so unfortunately, it's rare that you'll see more than one video a week from me.

Well, it would of course be for Blacklight: Retribution, TF2, and just about any other f2p pc game (and some others :D), do you think the 7850 would be able to handle most games that are out on decent graphics settings [at decent FPS? (60-80+ preferably)]. Thanks for your help, good sir, means alot.

The only problem with the cards you suggested is the fact that my budget is around $200 CAN for the video card, so that pretty much knocks out the Nvidia 600s and he AMD Radeon 7900 range. But thanks for the advice, I appreciate it.

Funny that you've played against Wordman... I played against him just yesterday. He kept coming in for flag grabs then too. Only thing is I had sentries set up, so he just took a lot of damage instead of dying or dropping the flag.

Read your question, a 7850 would work. I would suggest something in the Nvidia 600 range or AMD Radeon 7900 range, those would be very future proof and capable of playing anything :) depends on budget though

i am a soldier that uses both a thumper and a spinfuser in defending the flag. do you have any sugestions for someone like me that is trying to aim for competative play?

There's no real counter to a skilled player who can consistently time a nitron when you're passing over the flag stand.

Noo they do not run a lot better, and 'a lot of games are designed for Nvidia' is not really true. AMD is fantastic, dont you worry :)

I'd argue that the counter is a skilled offense as the PTH has few hit points and is easily chained out, but you can hardly rely on that in a public game.

There is a reason for use dueling spinfusor instead bolt launcher? I mean bolt launcher has more damage and more radius than dueling spinfusor.

Tribes definitely produces some great montage moments. I may have something in the works...

That depends entirely on your budget, but I would recommend a GTX 560 Ti or higher.

Yep, I play Jugg quite a bit, which you can see in some of my other Tribes videos.

I haven't played much recently, so I think I'm still somewhere in the high 30's.
