It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of our dear friend, conductor, composer, teacher and author Pierre Boulez. Over the course of nearly fifty years, he led The Cleveland Orchestra in over 220 performances at home and on tour. In half a century of service to Cleveland, he has created a peerless legacy of great music, new music, and unrivaled music-making. - These segments were originally played during our 90th Birthday tribute concert, and in memory of our beloved friend are now available as one video.

What an inspiration. He will be missed, and never replaced. But he will be remembered, without doubt.

When Boulez stopped being a strict serialist, he became a Schoenberg copycat.

the human experience is what I find lacking in Boulez.

Boulez was a great analyst, great conductor and a mediocre composer. Serialism is no more than a useless extrapolation of the 12 tone system. The entire Darmstadt school was a bunch of arrogant and condescending composers that were convinced they were the iluminatti. I believe Serialism IS a dark period in music history.

A simplistic reductio ad absurdum of a 60-80 year period of music history.
