One thing worth noting: She never used to say..”That is the answer” She always said “That’s my answer” what is yours? Shows her humbleness and no overconfidence!!! Brilliant human being!
Well. Even if she says "That is the answer", there'd be nothing wrong if that's 'her' who says that. She's NOT overconfident there. She's 💯% sure of her talent and her answers. that's it
@@swatisaini6447 Actually her kind of Astrology was not about Palm reading or suggesting stones. She used to practise the Vedic Calculative Astrology also known as Numerology.
@@swatisaini6447 yes astrology is a legit practice and it gives accurate results but you need someone who has full accurate knowledge of that subject to predict anything ,and those people are very rare , most of the "astrologers" either have no knowledge of the subject or they only know few things , which isn't enough to predict anything. My grandmother can actually do that , but even she can't predict everything but yes she can tell you few things about your future based on your kundli , when my father wasn't married , my grandfather choosed a girl for him , but upon seeing her kundli my grandmother rejected the marriage , she said that her kundli has a "dosh/ defect" which will lead to the death of her husband within a year of her marriage , so they rejected her , and my grandmother's prediction did came true , the guy who married her eventually died within one year of her marriage .
Astrology is a different kind of science and study. Its the fake people who have polluted the practice for their benifit. So people often think of it as a pseudoscience. Its not just seeing the palm and telling future.
My degree college watchmen had very impressive memory. He remembered nearly 10000+ vehicle numbers and the owner. If you park your vehicle once in our college he used remember it forever. I was seriously very impressed with him. After college I joined a local media and I wanted to make a little documentary about him but when I visited the college to meet him he was dead :( :( He was so talented but no one noticed his talent and he died as watchmen itself :(
Sad to hear. Make a documentary on him hiring a person, make him act like him 🔥🔥🔥 his pictures can be found from the place where he was the Watchman. Good luck ❤️
India is a land of so many prodigies but unfortunately Indians and government don't recognize those talents,,,otherwise there would have been so many Einstein and Nikola Tesla coming out of India
I spent most of my school days doing puzzles from her books and learning some of the tricks of her trade. She was a genius in the highest form. Though one thing, i wouldn't compare her to ramanujan as he was gifted well beyond any one's comprehension. He solved equations that biggest math brains were struggling to understand for generations.
@Richa Verma While it's true whatever you said, it's time to reflect on the present. Our ancestors were great - that's true. But if we do nothing and sit around just taking pride in what they did - our descendants won't say they same about us. Let's make sure we can keep the legacy going. At this point of time, the western world has overtaken us. No point denying that. If we really want Indians back on the map, we need to show achievements NOW. Just an analogy - West Indies cricket team was the most feared back in the 70s, but now look at them. Their older generation players were flawless, sure.. But they're judged by their current performance today.
Father of American literature Great Mark Twain about India "India is the cradle for human race, birthplace of human speech, mother of history, grandmother of legend and great grandmother of tradition".
And yet it can't shake off social evils like caste system, dowry deaths, honor killings, rapes, farmer suicides, hunger deaths, abject poverty, color discrimination, open defecation (40% of the population), awful healthcare infrastructure for most of the population......otherwise India is the mother and grandmother of everything!
@Hacker One India seems to be far behind in rape cases only because more than 95% of rape and sexual assault cases in India go unreported. The reported cases in india itself are astounding in number so imagine the reality. I as an Indian woman who had lived in three different countries one of them being India itself does not need to "imagine" it myself because i've lived through it and my everyday life speaks for itself and i assure you india is undoubtedly one of the worst and most dangerous countries in the world for women. So stop trying to be a deshbhakt where it's not needed. Every woman in India knows that it's a fucked up place to live in for us and every one of us women live a life of horror here and that's the truth.
@@swanlilly100 India's problem are famous worldwide not because only India has problems and other countries don't, but because India isn't good in covering up its weaknesses and drawbacks in which developed countries excel.
He definitely was greatest of his era. But he himself admired many times that he could never reach the level of his idols, genius like Aryabhatt, Brahma gupta, Barahmihir, Bhaskara
That's just preposterous to term him the greatest mathematician. He was a great mathematician but there were many other extraordinary mathematicians too.

@@Stoiccynic224 dude some of his theories have not been worked on yet.At 28 can u expect someone to be that genius.mathematicians take centuries to prove a particular theory.just bcz he was not western therefore he is not given respect he deserves.same if apj abdul kalam would have been american he would have got nobel prize by now.

@rakesh bedi that's what white historians want to hear.u said it.bravo
It's shamful and sad that indian talent is considered talent only when foreigners accept them as talented.. And it's so sad to c genius standing and answering sitting professors .. Just professors!!!
You should know ramanujan found series solved sequences those were impossible to understand by human minds. He was so great that people believed aliens or gods talk to him.
what she was doing is a vedic math tricks which is ancient mathematics technique which is also a part of curriculum in some of the schools but she is too fast in it and talented and gifted
Very true this is how vedic maths work although her speed has no match undoubtedly... and a student of vedic maths is definitely faster in math problem solving than a brilliant regular math student (vedic maths techniques are very different than the regular ones) ..she said about her grandfather being preist n knowing astrology too.
This is vedic math. It's great she could do it. But Sanatani yogis and rishis were able to do it back then in ancient times. When whole world used to think earth is flat, Hindu rishis/ yogis of ancient times not only telling it's round but they could precisely calculate the distance between earth and sun and do all sorts of astronomical calculations precisely.
@@singhisking768 Neither Aryabhatt (CE 5th century Indian mathematician), nor Bhaskar I (CE 7th century Indian mathematician) discovered zero. The concept of zero - and of negative numbers - had existed in India since, at least, the 3rd century BCE.
Ooo my my my my my...kudos to shukantala devi...just loved her😍...l laughed when I saw your expressions on your face rick n korbin😂😂...I am also speech less right now😂😂...she had gifted brain..really really incredible 👏🏻👏🏻🤘🏻
Bollywood is busy makes movies about criminals like sanjay dutt, glorifying drug use and illegal arms poccession while such real grniuses are forgotten...its really sad that she wasnt awarded any padma awards..
This fondly reminds me of my school days in 1990s where almost every alternate kid went out and bought her book on mathemagic, this brings back so much of memories, nostalgic!
Movie on Her does not justify her, ⬆Bolllywood once again, created radiculos movie, They have once again turned an great Story of Human calulater "Shakuntala Devi" into Family Drama. They have shown B grade drama for an amazing personality, who was a Great math Genius, A great Astrologer. They bring her personality to the surface level.
Total legend...Shakuntala Devi was a proud Hin du...And yes, in all those years she never boasted or played the religious card...Then you have people like zakir naik who are born in indi a, who quote a few chapter -references from any book , and the entire ishilamic world clap like chimpanzees impressed with those memory skills...( "I am a Dr , I know") ...None of these people have produced iconic figures like Shakuntala..And yes this has to be said...Instead, H indus are constantly demonized.
Hey frnd!! Don't pull religion into this. Appreciate her talent and not her religion. Even if she was not a Hindu, she would have been a famous as like this, cause talent doesn't bother whether u r a Hindu or Muslim.......
@@anuannajoseph6394 Give it a rest....When M boast sir Abdul Kalam was a Muslim...Why can't Hi ndus do the same? I appreciate both facts, she was a proud H indu and was a talented person. Even her name has a meaning..Her parents chose the correct name for her...Do you know the meaning of her name? The name Shakuntala, she was the mother of emperor Bharat ..And Bharat is where the name "Bharat-Varsh" originated from, which is now known commonly as India...So I take great pride in knowing her name is Shakuntala...Where ever she went, she represented In dian values and Hindu Vedic culture. Stop trying to secularize everything. I am proud of people like her and embarrassed that f ilth like zakr naik come from In dia.
I got goosebumps. The fact that gentleman compared her to Sri Ramanujan , obviously he didn't know much about Ramanujan. They both were differently gifted greats 🙏🙏🙏
The trailer of the movie concerns me! It seems this Indian national treasure has been portrayed quite less than authentic by the film makers and Vidya Balan. And that is a shame! And I am a Vidya Balan fan! Shakuntala Devi was a fully functioning savant that is quite rare on this earth. She commanded utmost reverence and respect from the Math community around the world as well as the common people. She has written numerous books on varied topics including children’s books, murder mysteries and sociological issues like homosexuality. She also played classical Indian music on the flute although not professionally.💐🙏
I had the opportunity to train under her for 1 week. my mom who happens to be a masters in math signed me up for her workshop. trust me I hated math before that 1 week.
Greetings Rick & Korbin, Even though I have been following this channel for long time, these are my first words for you. I don't know if these will be lost in the wave of 100s of other warm comments bestowed upon you by followers or if it will be actually read still I thought let me give this a try. I come from a East Bengali family whom moved to Kolkata in 1930s. I would like to introduce you to my lovely city and cinematic history it has nested through decades of great artistry. Three films that I would recommend are below. The reason I haven't mentioned masterpiece Pather Panchali and Meghe Dakha Tara in the list because either you've seen them or has been exposed with trailer. 1. 1957 Kabuliwala. This cinema has captured and mesmerized minds of thousands of people. A true classic. Based on story by Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, additional writing by Premendra Mitra, a stalwart Bengali writer and directed by legendary Tapan Sinha. 2. Subarnarekha released 1965 by legendary Ritwick Ghatak. 3. 1973 film Padatik by another legendary Mrinal Sen. Wish Korbin's little one and Rick's children much love and fondness. Regards, A stupid Bengali baby.
Now that he has mentioned Ramanujan and compared her to him, I would request you to watch the movie "The Man who knew Infinity". It's a great film with two great performances by Dev Patel and Jeremy Irons. Toby Jones is also great as a supporting character.

May be we don't have powerful supercomputers like USA,Japan but We have human supercomputers like Shakuntala Devi,Srinivasa Ramanujan,Vikram Sarabhai,Homi Jahangir Bhaba..... Pure human resources 🔥🔥🔥
try to solve the math/quant part of any national(preferably banking) competition paper, you will realize that the level is insane(because we have people like her who have provided tricks to solve questions like this)
agreed. In my view she is not a mathematician by any definition (forget about great). She has not contributed to any field of mathematics. there is no conference or journal publication.
No doubt she was great. But,comparing her to Ramanujan is injustice. Cause Ramanujan was spiritually and intellectually very very high. He had direct connection to Devi as well as he was a great hardworker. I just love him as well as her.🙏🙏🏼🙏🙏🏼
I really too hope the movie does her justice because Vidya Balan is a genius actress..the question is, is the writing and directing up to par? Shakuntala Devi deserves it. She really does. The last thing she deserves is a over the top fluff based on her life and achievements.
Not within the purview of this channel but try and learn about Vedic Math and you'll understand the science behind Shakuntala Devi. Listen to Dr. C.K Raju's lecture series, #SangamTalks on how Math is Not Universal. Cultures Influence Math. If India had been allowed to retain her traditional education systems there would be many Shakuntala Devi's now.
Cool I had never seen this!! 😮 It's definitely making me emotional too, because I feel like her abilities reveal something almost "mystical" about the human mind and even life. What she's doing is normally _impossible_ so how can we explain it? Through what mechanisms can her brain do that? 🤔🤔🤔🤔
