A live cactus workshop presented by Tony Davey which is a hand-on demonstration of how to cultivate Trichocereus cacti from tip-cuttings, trunks and seed.
Tony is a long standing member and moderator of the Shaman Australis forum and other online communities as wells an APS volunteer who, from an early age has had a passion for nature and growing plants. Born and raised on a rural farm, he had the skills to nurture plants from an early age. After migrating to Australia in the nineties he found the perfect climate to grow Trichocereus cactus and in the years since, has been an active and dedicated part of the cactus community since, spreading the genetics of many plants amongst friends and strangers alike.
In this talk, Tony demonstrates the basics of cactus cultivation using different methods and answers questions the community have about starting their collection and enhancing their existing gardens. Tony’s talk reveals how every cactus tells a story, not just about its genetics, but its path to the grower, connection to the cactus community through collective sharing and our greater relationship to to the land they’re grow on.

That was awesome. Tony rocks. I like the Ethos about cactus culture and the value of personal involvement in growing the plants. I'm very much on the same page. I use charcoal at about 50% in all my mixes now. I have plans for a video on why and the potential benefits. Short version, It's like aggregate with benefits. Hope to see more from Tony in the future. I don't think the clone thing needs to be confusing. Just liken it to apples. There have probably been tens of thousands of apples worldwide, including species hybrids and there are currently still many thousands, if not tens of thousands. If a seedling really distinguishes itself, you give it a name so it's easy to keep track of and you don't have to call it trich. Scop #10 x (SSO2 x BBG) #21234.9 transmitting species crosses and information is certainly useful for breeding though. 🌵💚

Absolutely brilliant. This should be the starter guide for anyone looking to grow San Pedro types of columnar cacti. Highly recommend!

they should call "wachuma" as they were named in the original places where it grown
@kayleep3329
@kayleep3329 Год назад
Huachuma is the spelling in the Andes. This is my preferred spelling. 😊
@AustralianPsychedelicSociety
Huachuma can also refer to different species in different parts of the Andes...in many its Pachanoi, to some its Peruvianus and others Bridgesii, so in Western ethnobotany, botanical names are preferred as everyone can agree on the taxonomy.

@@AustralianPsychedelicSocietyI think they mean call them "huachuma" instead of "San Pedro". I like both.

Does San Diego grow those 3???

Great! Question though, when the seeds have just been sown in the container I don't need to open the lid and water them at all? Just leave them alone?
@JeagerTv
@JeagerTv 12 дней назад
Essentially yes. If you open the container a lot (which is not recommended) then you may have to Spritz them with a bit more water every few months if the soil goes dry. The moisture from the soil will condensate on the lid of the container and rain back down for many months. Seedlings don't need a wet/dry cycle, they like it always wet until you acclimate them otherwise. They are very easy to grow. All of the work is in the preparation and as you can see from this program, that isn't much.

I heard stressing the San Pedro by giving them full or at least lots of sun will increase the alkaloids in the plant. True or not?
@JeagerTv
@JeagerTv 12 дней назад
True. You will also get a larger plant after it adapts to the full sun.

When you get a couple pups growing on top of a middle cut, do you have to cut them off and re-plant or can you leave them on?
@AustralianPsychedelicSociety
@AustralianPsychedelicSociety 2 года назад
if you mean pups growing from a middle cut before it's planted, they with straighten up once planted vertically. Alternatively you could lay the middle cut on its side (horizontally) and do what is called a 'log plant'
@charleshendrix232
@charleshendrix232 2 года назад
@@AustralianPsychedelicSociety Yes, a middle cut. I planted vertically and I will just let it grow that way with 2 pups. Thanks for your response.

Its just an analogy about Taxonomy, that despite different appearances, the Bridgesii cacti are all the same species

My Only quarrel with "The Law" is that,.. How can anyone in their right mind declare Mother Nature illegal? We were sprawn from Mother Nature's loins and ALL of us contain within our biological nature a psychoactive ingredient of some sort (Well, DMT in our pineal gland..) It's like being born and turning to your mother and tell her she doesn't have a right to exist..!! "Making" Mother Nature (by proxy) illegal is the highest form of Stupidity that I ever heard... But liquor, pharma, pollution, chemicals and radioactivity is PERFECTLY OK? GEE...

You can Thank Ronald and Nancy Reagan for that. Assuming you're American.
