The best part of this video is how at the end of every trick the owner just shoves food into view from nowhere, like a mouse God descending from heaven
rats and rabbit hey! I despise people 🥰 that comments about there channel like promotions!🥰so I despise you! So stop doing you’re stupid promotion! And earn subs normally! Okay bye 🥰🥰🥰
Not only is this cool, but training mice to do tricks actually makes them happier (their mind & body is stimulated), instead of just wondering in a cage all day. :) Even with a exercise wheel and rat toys, activities like these are the best for mice/rats :) You're a awesome owner!
@@poppy-spadesIndeed. Mine need 8 inche wheels at a minimum, with larger ones requiring at least 10. Rats need 14-16 inch wheels depending on their size.
@@klocke-hx3xl performing tasks entirely unrelated to *directly* acquiring a food item is entirely different to performing tasks *directly* related to acquiring a food item... i.e. doing a fancy jig and getting an apple is different from climbing a tree to get an apple you underestimate the intelligence of animals in general, and that... is the hubris of man. yes, they want treats, but every animal will go about things differently. that is to say, one mouse might be thoroughly rocks-for-brains and not understand what you want, get huffy and sulk in a corner. another mouse might be effectively a genius and do everything you're wanting specifically for the reward but also your praise... whereas another mouse may have already proven they can do what you want them to, but they just don't feel like it. and yet still, some may fail again and again at doing what you want and never get the treat. it's not that they're stupid, but rather that they've misunderstood the goal. they, like the dumb mouse, get huffy and sulk in the corner. that is character and self-esteem. every animal has a different personality. every animal has a different level of intelligence. i've had dogs that are about as smart as a metric ton of broccoli... and i've had dogs as sharp as a knife, smarter than some folks i know. appreciate that we aren't all that different from animals, and that we aren't any better. that might make you question the meaning of our existence... or it might not. but regardless, there's a facet to life that you're clearly missing. this may seem like a lot to read into from nine words, but it's plain as day. you don't believe animals can possess personality or intelligence... that it's just performance = treat. i'd argue that the pattern-recognition and reward-seeking behaviours on display are a massive mark towards intelligence, and the differences between individuals are just as large a mark towards personality and character. all that to say... readjust the lens you view creatures and critters through. you'll find that very little makes humans different from animals. because we are animals.
If anyone is keeping a small animal/bird in a cage or similar confined environment, please remember that you are entirely responsible for the whole life/hopes/welfare of that little one. Most of these kinds of animals are very conscious and aware of their predicament, but also they have loyalty and gratitude for being fed/loved. Please show your little friend caring attention, & be sure to let him/her/them out regularly, to see the sky and nature too. On their behalf, a very sincere "PLEASE!" :)
@@BrainMeltGaming the point is that this is enrichment for the micr and stimulates their mind. It is important for their health to keep the active and entertained, and thats whats happening in this video. It is sad to leave caged animals alone and bored. An owner becomes these animals entire world
titaniumjew It shows how Positive reinforcement has beneficial effects as opposed to negative reinforcement ..which I wish a lot of Humans would actually learn. in my opinion negative reinforcement should be illegal practice.
I found that every mouse I've encountered to be a small, gentle little thing wanting to do no harm. Shame that society has labeled these intelligent and adorable creatures as harmful beings when they aren't. They're a hell of a lot nicer than some dogs I've met.
joshua kim yes, however mice would still eat harvests, breed like crazy and sneaking everywhere in houses if they can, not to mention the dejections, so it's not completely underserved, though rats are much worse, indeed.
They are very intelligent, e.g. they can learn by observing and they can generalize extremely well, e.g. I did not teach the mouse the 4-in-a-row-trick! She could already play basketball and understood the connection between ball-hoop and coin/blue thing. They still suprise me every day.
Sometimes special treats, sometimes a mixture of treats and normal food and sometimes normal food alone. It depends on how motivated the mouse is and on how difficult the trick is for her.
Hi! There is no limit except their short livespan. The reason why you see different mice performing tricks is that I have more than 20 of them and want to give as many as possible the chance to learn, not just focus on one. But of course you can teach one mouse as many tricks as you want. And it totally depends on the trick and on the mouse how long it takes - from a few minutes to a few weeks.
Love your mice! I'm primarily a professional fish trainer, but I have also worked with rodents. They are marvelous animals. So glad to see you popularizing operant conditioning with mice! Great work.
Hi! The clicker training method is the same for all species, so if you can train your dog, I'm sure you can train your rats, too. You'll be surprised how quickly they learn! But a normal clicker may be too loud for some rats, in this case you can use a ballpen instead. I'm looking forward to see your training videos! :-)
Adorable. I had pet mice years ago, one of them loved to hang out in my sweatshirt pocket as I walked around. You’d see a little mouse head sticking out. She was pretty cute.
This is incredible! Thank you so much for this fantastic insight into mice and their abilities! I imagine for someone with so much patience and appreciation for these small animals, you must have huge amounts of respect for animals of all kinds and levels of intelligence!
This is the cutest and most amazing and adorable thing I have seen all day and to be honest it just made my day go from crappy to great... your dedication is amazing keep it up!
Wow, I didn't know they could be trained like this. Someone in the comments already mentioned it makes them happier. I believe that is true. Putting in some effort and get awarded goes for all mammals.
I have pet snakes and truth be told I breed mice for food..... but I didn't realise how amazing and inteligent and fun they are. I think I may have to go back to buying frozen now I have seen this.
As long as you treat them with respect, I wouldn't say you're a terrible person for feeding your snakes. Is live better for snakes than frozen? If so, you should continue. If not, I personally wouldn't.
mardalfossen they dont have to have live. Some refuse frozen thawed so we have little choice. In the UK it is illegal to feed live mice if it is videoed or practiced for entertainment, or, if the mouse is left in when the snake is not hungry causing unnecessary distress to the animal. (animal welfare act) Like i said though we try not too but 3 of my snakes will never eat frozen so i have no choice with it. Its nice to have someone understand for a change!! I have had a few people report me in the past for it when they found out, hence i found out the above info from the police. But still feel bad about it! haha they do have a great habitril set up though and we do get them out and play with them so they have a good life.
I talked to a rescue helper and she said they never feed live (and this is with wild snakes). They just encourage them if they refuse and it always works. People think up every possible excuse to live feed. How can live feeding ever not cause distress? Killing is a violent act and mice are sentient beings. Why would anyone keep snakes if they didn't like the feeding method? Bit like the drug dealer saying they hate it that people die of the drugs they push!
sourisblanche drug dealers don't like that people die of their drugs, if for nothing else, they loose custom and the drug becomes harder to push. the idea that we look forward every excuse to feed live isn't a fair statement. I admit when I first got a snake I tried it to see what it was like! call me evil or what you like but it is human nature....it was horrible and it really was a last resort. however, I have now found canny ways to frozen thaw and like I said this video was the turning point for me. we have to be careful however not to austomorphasise please excuse spelling) which is portraying human emotion into animals. although they are sentient beings they don't quite think like we do, though it is easy to see a similar thought process, but the triggers are not like ours. all in all I can tell you first hand as someone who breeds his own mice to feed snakes, that I found it easier to feed live to the snakes than having to gas them myself, I could turn an eye to the responsibility and the guilt... however gas is far better try just go to sleep like an anaesthetic and that's it, if fed immediately after death snakes go wild for them so I haven't needed live for a bit! even hatchlings do well with this!
Hi! All mice in this video are normal house/fancy mice and are only average-sized or even smaller. But in some of my other videos you can see larger species like multimammate mice and spiny mice.
Not entirely sure but with psychology experiments usually, they are kept in a confined space until eventually they do the expected task and then are rewarded. For example a pigeon kept in a cage does not leave until it figures out the touching the lever opens the door to the food.
