Raising our own food makes us responsible for the environmental impacts that we cause and makes us aware of how much work it is to keep our food pest-limited. I sometimes lose perspective on the broader reason for home gardening when I'm frustrated by pests. You're able to see the bigger picture, and the lesson in every bead of sweat - it helps. Thank you!

Squash are such ornamental plants. Pity the bugs love them so much too :).

Poly culture can be a great tool to use to your advantage. I plant dill with cucumbers oregano and basil near tomatoes and parsley mint thyme sage garlic and onions all around the garden it helps when the pests can't zero in on the squash or what they are after all in one area. Happy gardening. Mint mulch which is just chopped or torn Mint leaves around the plant once a week works very good for squash bugs and Mint is very prolific but invasive to I keep it in a large pot and when I prune it I've been using it for mulch and it's been working.

That's a good idea about using the tape. Thank you for sharing that. Have you tried planting nasturtiums, chives, lavender and/or chrysanthemums around the outside of the bed to repel the squash beetles? I think marigolds repel rodent type things and rabbits, too.

I just put my squash family out. I’m hoping to have tricked the pests and they moved on. Last year they were severe so I didn’t plant them as early as usual. If this works I may have to try it. Good luck 👍

I like the experimentation. I hope it works out. If not, maybe row covers next year will be your best option.

You mentioned in this video that your garden structures haven't had to weather a hurricane. We just had hurricane Isiais 🌀 here on the east coast. How did your structures hold up? My garden in NJ took some damage, but nothing major.

They were not affected, because we only got wind gusts of 40 miles per hours tops

I have not made a compost pile this time. I'm burying my kitchen scraps directly on the protected beds this year, to avoid attracting more groundhogs.

That is stronger. Although there are other people in the comments who said cutting out the entire leaf works well.
