While listening to this I had visions of Peabo Bryson and Roberta Flack dancing in my head. This definitely harkens back to the early 80s when duets like this ruled the airwaves.
The thirst for material that hasn’t been over sung has been quenched. A true sign of vocal maturity is not butchering a tune in order to present one’s vocal resume’., but instead, letting the music come first. Very well done by both artists. Refreshing.
Agree 100% Gerald. I have been a big fan of Trijntje for a few years. You Tube have a live concert of her doing Bacharach tunes with the Orchestra. Metropole. It is stunning. I also love the arrangements and use of the flugel which brings so much richness of sound.
If this song doesn’t make you feel something not much will. Incredibly written and it’s one of the best duets I’ve heard in a very long time. Everything about it is perfect and there’s nothing missing. Beautiful record
When you hear the original and this version of this when it fades out, i always get tears in my eyes. It reminds me of when my realationship ended....it is final then
Probably the worlds two best singers of their genre. Didn't know about Gregory but have been a Trijntje fan a few years now. Her treatment of songs is beautiful I rate her and the late great Eva Cassidy as wonderful interpreters of composers wonderful songs. Have a look on You Tube for Trijntjes live concert with Orchest Metropol of Burt Bacharach songs recorded in 2009. Just magic. Before his death Burt said he rated Trijntjes versions of his songs above all others -thats got to tell you something eh?
It is very difficult to make a better version than the original. This has come very close to the original. I will dig this everyday and twice on Sunday. Well done.
Wow! What a beautiful rendition of this song. While Gregory Porter is a longtime fave in my house, I did not know Trijntje Oosterhuis. I listened to her song of Baby Be Mine and was knocked out.
I’m so proud of my good friend Trijnjte. I always knew she’d be successful. Even when we were at school in Delft you could see she had that star quality. One of the finest speed skaters I ever saw, and now it turns out she can sing great too. So proud!!! 😊
Remembering the incomparable Burt Freeman Bacharach. Rest in deep peace Burt! Gone but never forgotten! "Making Love" absolutely pure Bacharach genius delivered with perfection by Trijntje Oosterhuis, Gregory Porter and Metropole Orkest. Timeless and so hauntingly beautiful - moves me to tears!
Two of my favourite albums are the two earlier Bacharach albums of Trijntje's, I can't wait for this new one to be released. It sounds beautiful, thanks so much for giving us a taste of what they hold, Trijntje does the best Burt B covers! Steve, (UK).
Hi Steve. Im a New Zealander married to a Dutch Lady and came across Trijntje about 3 years ago. You're absolutely right Trijntjes versions of Bacharach songs are the very best ever. Before he passed away Burt spent time with her (its on You Tube) and he said Trijntjes versions of his songs were better than anyone else's. I agree 10000%. I reckon Trijntje and the late great Eva Cassidy both have done wonderful interpretations of others iconic songs. Not sure if you've seen on You Tube Trijntjes live concert in 2009 with Orchest Metropol of all Bacharach songs. Absolute magic from her and superb arrangements by Vince Mendosa and Patrick Williams
@@larrytasker7043 absolutely, Larry, I completely agree, and I love Eva too. I believe Patrick Williams has sadly passed on now, but what an arranger. Same goes for Vince Mendoza who has worked with many of my favourite singers. You might like to check out Trijntje's dvd Ken Je Mij, where she performs many Bacharach tunes with just acoustic guitar played exquisitely by Leonardo Amuedo. Thanks for replying, Steve.
When i hear this song, in my mind i see Burt conducting the orchestra. The way Burt conducts is thrilling. You can feel every note when he gives the directions, he is such a personality in his own way. Ashonising composer he is and will always be. The lyricrs were by his then wife Carole Bayer Sager. Carole is also a great lyricist too. This version does have a few keys which i don`t like but the result is okay. I don`t think, but that is a personal observation, Gregory`s voice isn`t suited for this song. This song shouldn`t be done in a duet. But Burt gave his blessing for this so i respect that. Burt is my music hero!
Dit nummer hoorde ik jaren geleden toen SKY radio voor de aller eerste keer uitgezonden werd en jaja...ik heb dat toen opgenomen met mijn cassette recorder!! En heb dat cassette bandje nog! Prachtig gezongen Treintje en Gregory Love it!! Lieve groet Amelia xx
One of the finest songs that Burt and Carole wrote. You have to love his voice, which i don`t . This song is so full of emotions and especially when you hear the version of Roberta Flack which Burt had a hand in, then you understand the emotions of the song....
@@rolandcyr7863 Hello! So you agree, it's a beautiful song and performance. Not everything is understood by words just feel with the heart! I meant: Beautiful! I love this repertoire! A gift to ❤
