About 10 years ago, when I was a SU demonstrator, I had a SU guillotine that looks exactly like your Tonic guillotine. It had the removable handle and extender on it. I loved it. It worked like a dream! Sorry I ever got rid of it, but I decided to downsize all my supplies a few years back, thinking I was done with it (no room, no time, etc.). Now I'm back to cardmaking, and I'm kicking myself for getting rid of so much.
Thanks so much for this video. I've been looking for a new paper trimmer and after watching this, managed to get an amazing offer and bought the Tim Holtz 12 inch tonic guillotine for £16 from amazon. a few days later it went back up to £41
Thanks for you video. I just ordered the Tim Holtz 12 inch one. UPDATE Feb 2023, Absolutely an awesome guillotine. Very sharp, I use it constantly. I also bought the smaller version for cutting scraps down. Highly recommend.
Thank you! I've been really wanting a guillotine cutter, but I've been procrastinating on purchasing one. It's so hard to know what to get with so many on the market! I was wondering what the Tim Holtz was like, and you're the 2nd person to recommend it. Thank you so much! Now I know what I'll be buying :-)
I agree with you on the Stampin up trimmer. I don't use mine anymore for that same reason. Going to check on the Tonic Studio cutter. Been wanting one for a long time but, I wanted a honest opinion on it before I spent the money. Thank you, Ann, for this video. You helped me make a long overdue decision. Hugs, Bobbie
You learn something every day! I bought the Woodward but didn't know you could store the blades or turn the strip until I saw this. Thx for the info. I of mine!
So glad you did this review! I have a Fiskars trimmer which cuts ok but, I’m a hobby Stampin’ Up demonstrator and couldn’t wait to get the Stampin’ Up one. I hate it! I use mostly Stampin’ Up cardstock and get very few cuts with a blade. This started right out of the box. Then I bought another better Fiskars, but you do still have to replace blades more than I would like but nothing like the Stampin Up one. I read lots of reviews trying to find the best trimmer and bought a Swingline guillotine, but, I have trouble getting a straight cut. Then I bought the Cutterpillar pro. I still feel like I can’t get a straight cut. Maybe I just need to practice. I wish I could get the Woodware one, but I live in the states. I may have to look into the Tonic. Thanks again for an excellent review!
I purchased a Woodware trimmer in the States from Scrapbook.com within the last month. I love it, but I am having trouble finding the special cutting blades. Good luck!
I know that you posted this in 2019, and this is 2021 I ordered the tonic in 2020 and I thought I was going to love it! I must say I can't get a straight cut with it? At first I thought it was something I had been doing, but with many more attempts I have figured out that it's the trimmer. I think it's not lined up right. Thanks for sharing your honest options on the different trimmers! I totally enjoy you input, and your talent!!!
Thank you so much, I have been trying to decide what would be the best trimmer for myself, I now know which one I’m going for and that would be the Tim Holtz. Thanks for your demonstration so easy to follow. Anne from Australia. 😀🇦🇺
Thank you for your review, I had a very old Woodward rotary trimmer but it was getting a pain to use I have ordered the one you showed here , really looking forward to using it . Thanks again. Take care xx
I love my trimmers too, I have the two Tim Holz guillotines, and the Woodware, which I have loaned to my granddaughter! My son has a bigger Fiskar rotary one, and I'm eyeing up the Cutterpillar!! But like you, I totally love the big guillotine.
Excellent demonstration and real honest opinion received. I am lucky to have seen this video before placing an order on Amazon, a cheap plastic stuff would have arrived. But the sad part is that "Woodcraft Collection" products are not available here. Hence I can't have it neither am I going to settle for anything less. So, life without a paper trimmer.
I agree about the Stampin Up trimmer. I've lost count of the number of blades I've bought. I also have a Fiskars trimmer which is identical and the blades on that need replacing often. I now use my Tonic guillotine the majority of the time. I also have the small and large one and also the small Fiskars guillotine!!!! I know Ann Littler said to blame madness but I think it's an illness we all need help with lol!! xx
pizzaandabeer Try starting your cat a couple of inches down, then straight back up. It’s the only way I found my SU trimmer not dragging so much. Hope that helps xx
My Fiskars slide cutter's string just broke where it was attached and now it's just hard to see where i cut. I've always been annoyed by the fuzzy cut when the blade goes dull (which is all the time!) and this video really convinced me to just invest in a proper one cause they do exist! 😂💜 Thank you so much!
I needed this, I'm fairly new to paper crafting. I have the WRMK's trimmer w/score board & a store brand guillotine cutter. They ok! Thank you, so much for sharing💕
The best trimmer I've ever bought has to be my Cutterpillar Crop. Yes it was expensive at £79.99 from Create & Craft but when u see how it works & all the reviews. It was a no brainer for me. You'll never need to replace blades again as it self sharpens. Love it so much I'll be buying the larger version this year sometime - the Cutterpillar Pro. I also bought the Cutterpillar Glow. Love both products xo
I just purchased the Guillotine the beginning of this year, and yes I do agree that is one phenomenal tool to invest. Love it, I had the Stampin Up one but I gave it away to donation. Worthless tool to have....
I agree with you about the SU trimmer, I am a hobby demo with SU and I’m for ever buying new blades, cleaning them and cleaning the tracks and still a fluffy cut ! I think its going on eBay because I don’t use it for scoring as I have the SU Score Board which I do like. At least now I know which one to buy to replace it thanks to you Anne xx Woodware on order 😀xx
Very interesting. I have a basic Fiskars trimmer which is OK and most closely resembles the Stampin’ Up one, but I’ve been thinking of changing it to something more robust, and the Woodware one looks amazing, I like the way you can get different blades for it, too. Excellent review!
So agree with what you say Ann,i have the older version of the woodware rotary, and have had it about 4 years now,and it still cuts beautifully.I also have the large tonic guillotine, and the small one,and love them.I can highly recommend them. xx
would you recommend for cut 1.5mm or 2mm thick greyboard with it? A4 size, cuts to 15 peaces. I need to cut arount 50 A4 size boards into 15 peaces, that is 60 cuts on each board. do you think Tonic can handle 2mm boards?
@@MrGoandrush I'm not 100% sure since I've never cut that type of board. I have cut chipboard and cardboard with it and it works fine. It is also sharp enough to cut tissue paper.
@@UARELOVE1010 I don't think it makes too much of a difference. The Tim Holtz one (probably made by Tonic) will take up less space and give you enough of a base to steady your paper/cardstock when cutting. It has an arm that extends so you can get longer measurements.
The best thing about tonic guillotine trimmers is they sharpen the blade everytime you use them. I do wish there was an arm on the smaller version. I want the larger one, but I can't afford it. Thanks for giving us the flat facts and honest opinion. 💗
Hi Anne, l watch your video, and have brought thr Tim Holtz guillotine it's the best l have ever had, such a clean cut and when you want your paper exact it's just a dream. Thankyou so much. 💖
No, you are not alone with having a lot of trimmers Ann, I think we all have been in search of the perfect trimmer. lol Trimmers like the SU one that have the same kind of blade will leave that edge on the cardstock. I don't like that either. Plus they dull pretty quickly. A rotary blade or guillotine trimmer will give the best cut in my own humble opinion and are self sharpening. Loved your review Ann!
Thanks for the review and your honest opinion! I have a large guillotine trimmer which I love, it is a self sharpening one and is has never given me any problems!
Thankyou for this Ann. It was very helpful. I have a couple of trimmers I am not happy with, and have been thinking about your favourites on and off for a while now. So- mind made up, now I know they will be worth it !
Just ordered the Tim Holtz 12x12 guillotine cutter from Amazon on Sunday. Should be here in 2 weeks. I'm glad to hear it's your favorite. Like you I've been debating for over a year on it.
I still have my Stampin Up trimmer but I purchased the rotary blades when they were on the sale ages ago, I mainly use it for cutting my chipboard now. I got sick of replacing blades all the time. I have a Tonic guillotine too it's the same as yours but not the Tim Holtz version. I agree it cuts beautifully xx
@@PositivelyPapercraft yeah that's the only thing that put me off plus the fact that the blades went out of stock so often too making them harder to get xx
Hello Ann. Another wonderful and practical video. I have a comment on the Woodware trimmer. Yes it cuts beautifully, but when you want to cut between 5" and 6" (where the arm comes out) then I find my card sizing isn't cutting accurately. There is a gap after 5 5/8 and before the 6" mark. I have only recently purchased it and feel disappointed that I have to keep measuring the size again via a ruler. I see other trimmers don't have this gap. Jo xx
Thanks for your tutorial was needing one and was leaning more on the tonic one you really help me out about which one to buy I too am frustrating with the score mark like the stampin up one left
Thanks Ann for this review❣️I have a guillotine and the SU trimmer... I don’t like the SU trimmer because I have to change the blade often and you’re right about the cut; not always precise... Lyne xxx😘
Thanks Ann for sharing this. I thought it was me doing something wrong with the SU trimmer. I am very interested in the trimmer with the different blades but also like the last one (ur very fav). Thanks again n so glad to see this.
It just figures! I knew as soon as I saw the Woodware trimmer that it wouldn’t be available in the U.S. Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that the level of premium products have gone down hill but pricing continues to go sky high, ugh.
I think I will buy the guillotined one. I still need to see it personally. As of now I have the one who can cut slightly thick card stock. Thanks for the review.
Hi Ann,thanks for the tips on these ,I admit my stampin` up trimmer is not great,I have noticed that even changing the runner AND the blade you will still get that strange line, and sometimes I find it bunches up the card stock and just tears it, I loved my fiskers trimmer but lost it during my house move and have not got around to getting another yet. I do like the look of the woodware guillotine and the Tim Holtz one, so I think I might be getting me the woodware one.
I think you have the older SU trimmer? The new one is so much better! But you do have to change your blades to keep a good sharp cut. I have a Cricut one which I like too but the score blade is not included. I’m definitely looking for a good rotary style. I get close to purchasing one then I read the reviews and 2-3 will hate it and I change my mind. 🤦🏼♀️ Seems like people either love or hate all cutters! LOL 😂 thanks for this great info!
stampin up brought out the exact same guillotine which is what I have. I would love to get a woodware one but unfortunately I am not in the uk. Thanks Ann
Excellent video Ann! I'm planning to buy a trimmer to help with sketchbook making, because sometimes I must cut a lot of papers at once. What do you think is the most suitable for that job? I love the Tim Holtz you showed, but I'm not sure how much paper I can cut at once.
Great video...I have a different type woodware cutter...it isn't cutting straight anymore so looking to buy a new paper trimmer...I think I will treat myself to the Tim Holtz one.
I love my SU trimmer, but you must keep the track clean and you won't get that fuzzy edge. I don't change the blade often but do clean it. I have bought many trimmers and cutters too! I wish I could find the perfect one, but there are things I love about each one!
Positively Papercraft I agree with you honey, the SU one drags the paper unless your blades are really new. When I use it I start the cut a bit of the way down then go back up. I love my Tim Holtz one I don’t cut that many large things, so it’s great!
Yaya mine has just arrived! Coming back to yr video I noticed you have lots of extra trimmers. Mine only came with 2 trimmers. Did you order more or should I have got the same amount as you got. When I saw how many you had I turned trimmer over and none there. All I got with trimmer was a straight edge and a scoring trimmer. Thanks
Haha, have you been spying on me Ann? I was just looking today for a new trimmer but couldn't decide on one. I have the stampin up trimmer and I do like it except the blades don't last long at all! I like the woodware one that you showed, with the different blades, so I may decide on that. Thanks for the review, it was very helpful. tfs,x
Hi i have the tim holtz guillotine but i hate the anomaly that is the measurement between the 6 and 7 inches, that bit really annoys me lol. I love the stamping up one, but i really complained about the blades, but have heard theyre stopping production, it has the best in my opinion the best measurement bit between the arm and the main base, , im gonna get the woodware one, it looks amazing, thanks for doing this video, thankyou x
I love my SU trimmer. You do need to give it a good clean regularly to stop paper fibre build up. I cut 250gsm cardstock & never had fuzzies or strange line you showed. I personally wouldn’t use anything else x
I have the ProCision and a blue Fiskars one. The problem with all of these, EXCEPT the SU! one, is that you miss a few lines when you extend the arm. For my ProCision, I have to put my ruler on the side to be able to cut at 6" precisely (and I cut a lot at 6"). I tried the mini Sonic but returned it because the width was only 3" or something but the length was 6.25" so it was false advertisement. I have checked many people using the SU! one and didn't see any missing bars on it. So I might buy it just for that. The fluffy comes from not cleaning because my ProCision does that too and it's supposed to be self-sharpening. I would LOVE to get the Woodware one but it's out of stock right now on Amazon.ca.uk and eBay.ca - I did put it in my wish list, though. Never heard of it before your demo. TFS Nicole
Hello Ann, I'm Claray, I'm from Spain, I've seen your video of guillotines because I want to buy one. I have the woodware one and I am delighted with it, but the cutting guide broke and I can't get replacements. I wanted to ask you if where you live can you get them? Thank you so much. All the best.
Hi Ann I badly need a paper trimmer and based on your reviews I went to purchase the pink one you love but it's no longer available 😢 any idea where I could source one plz hun, I'm in the UK x
I have the Woodware one too but I wished they would have made the extending arm of the ruler in a lighter colour, as I find it difficult to see the numbers in Red. I also have the SU one which I find is OK, and also have a couple of Guillotine ones too. TFS, Hugs Linda x
Is Woodware still making this trimmer? I'm in the U S and have been trying for months to order one. Amazon says they don't know if the trimmer will ever be back in stock. Thank You for the review.
The Tonic one: If you use centimeters ... it's not quite handy. You can't measure the mm exactly, it's too far away from the line where you put your paper against
You are not alone, I have over 14 that I can think of straight off lol 😂 I can only blame madness! I’ve got most of what you showed lol. I got the Tim Holtz half sized one its great. I can’t remember the names of all I have but it’s always been on a search for the perfect trimmer!!!
Positively Papercraft emmmm, not sure, I think I could find something lol I’m going to get rid of loads though cause I can’t craft for having too much, but the thing is, everything I have were all bought for a reason, and they have all been used (apart from the stuff I’ve bought while I’m stuck in bed). I’ve just found a bid sweet jar full of strings of really good crystals, so.....I’m hoping this boots coming off next week, but it’s finding the energy to do things. I’ve just sorted out die cutting machines, I’ve got nine! But that’s getting reduced to three!
Tracy Marshall Hi I’ve not thought about it, but I might do some in conjunction with Ann, I’m sure she will be up for it. But it won’t be for a couple of weeks as I’ve not long had a op on my leg and just starting intensive physio, I am disabled so it is going to be really hard on me. Most of the trimmers I have I’m getting rid of along with an awful lot of craft stuff, so I will maybe do ratings on the things I have way too much of. To let you know how I have so many, I am 60 and been crafting since I could hold a pencil, I also travelled a bit as I was in the army, so bought things for on the move. If you want to sub to my channel, I will probably do something like that in a couple of weeks. xxxAnnxxx
Thank you so much for your review. I've looked all over for the Woodware paper trimmer and unable to find it so I can purchase. Do you know of another comparable one? I am interested with something that would have the scoring and pinking or wavy interchangeable blades.
Thank you for this video. I have one question : how do you do to measure with the gap between the plateform and the added arm ? At this place there is a lack of numbers written on. Thank you in advance for your help.
Thank you so much for your review. I have the SU trimmer and now I understand why I seem to have problems with clean cuts. At home I have the Tonic 12 x 12 slicer but I’m now going to check out your favourite one for when I go on the road.
