Thank you so much for your review. After weeks of using this trimmer, I went back to my Fiskars. I, too, kept getting fuzzy edges. Alignment was also a problem. I have been very unhappy with this trimmer and totally regret buying it. I agree; No one should have to work this hard to get a trimmer to make clean cuts.

Thank you for your fair and honest review. Fuzzy edges are a deal breaker for me. You are not alone. I have seen at least 3 other reviewers who had the same problem. What I appreciate is that you researched and offered a solution. I don't like to cut from bottom to top and, I agree, that for the cost, you shouldn't need to work that hard for a clean, crisp cut. I plan to stick with my guillotine for now.

I was amazed when I watched this video, because your comments are pretty much identical to what I would say if I reviewed this trimmer. It made me feel better hearing that I'm not the only one running into the same things that you mentioned. Like you, I'm glad I bought it but I still have to keep my Fiskars trimmer for small cuts. (and I make a lot of small cuts!) Also when I trim off anything around 1/4 inch of less, the strip of paper falls into the little ledge and it takes tweezers to get it out. Not a big deal, but it gets frustrating. Thanks for the review.

Chelsey, I too am having the exact same struggle with the new Tim Holtz trimmer(getting a clean cut)… I have also concluded that it must be user error, but it is good to know it’s not just me lol 😂 😂… I have tried almost every trimmer that exists, and I always end up going back to my tried and true Fiskars trimmer.

I have the 12 x 12 Fiskars rotary trimmer. It folds in half for st. I especially like the fact that it keeps a 12 x 12 piece of cardstock supported completely, no sagging in the middle. I also like the fact that you can turn and rotate the actual cutting strip/mat in the channel. That gives you 4 new cutting mats. I also find that if i position the blade housing in the palm of my hand I can go up and down and get clean cuts. JMHO. 😉

I wanted to update my comment. I rewatched Tim's video on how to use this trimmer and it's the simple little pressing of the blade to the left. My cuts are now perfect. I do like this trimmer now.

I'm with you Chelsey, I have not been able to get a clean cut not matter how I hold it, move it, etc... I just don't want to work this hard or take a chance of ruining a project at this price point. I'm so dissapointed. Thank you for your honest review.

I have a Fiskars ProCision rotary trimmer with self sharpening blades. I have had it for about 8 years now and I absolutely love it. I can always get great cuts on it and that blade has never dulled. After watching your video I think I’ll just stick with it.

I’ve had my trimmer for 2 weeks now and I get perfect cuts both ways every time

About 10 years ago I asked for just one BD present from my family: Rotatrim Pro M series 15-inch paper trimmer. It was over $200 at the time. It is a very big trimmer that has its own permanent place on my table. But it is by far the best trimmer I have ever used. It cuts everything (although I haven't tried chipboard). The cuts are absolutely clean and very precise. Of course, I have smaller trimmers for things like sentiments. But that large trimmer is my best investment. I use it every day. My daughters use it. It is very safe. No need to replace blades. So If you are thinking about investing in a serious trimmer, I strongly advise Rotatrim Pro M. They have smaller sizes. I learned about this trimmer from Kathy Orta. It's her favorite trimmer. And you know you can trust her opinion.

Hi, I’ve had my trimmer for a few weeks and I’m getting smooth cuts when I use it in both directions. I hold the blade carriage in the palm of my hand as Tim Holtz showed in his video, with very little sideways pressure (towards the cutting edge) and it’s cut perfectly, with no fuzzy edge, every time (so far). I have some age related pain and stiffness in my fingers and wrist and the trimmer hasn’t caused me any issues. Hope this helps 😊

Great video, I appreciate your input. I was considering this trimmer and you’ve given me some things to consider.

I have an old ( at least 20 years old) rotary paper trimmer from Staples. My husband got it from a work giveaway when he was management at a Staples warehouse. I still use it since it served my purposes for crafting with my kids, and still does good general cuts. I really did not worry with being precise with kids crafts as much as I would for crafts that I do as an adult, so I really am thankful for it. There are things I don’t like about it - guard is two inches, so hard to do small cuts unless you have a big piece of paper, it has a half inch grid instead of a 1/4 inch, unless perfectly lined up on measuring grid, the cut may be uneven, and it cuts on the end of cutting board. Things I love: it has four blades ( a scoring blade, a cutting blade, an curvy edge blade, and a perforation blade), a corner punch, the extender arm to measure up to 12 inches folds out in the center area (not top or board of the board), and it is still making clean cuts after all these years. I really do need to find something that is more suited to my needs now, especially for precise cutting. Thanks so much for your review, it has shown me that this wouldn’t be the choice for me. I would love to find something to make precise small cuts, cuts straight and even, has a cut line a few inches in on board, and doesn’t cost a fortune.

I've been scrapping for over 4 decades and I always return to my Fiskers. I've had Creative Memories and CTMH and still go back to Fiskers.

I took a long time deciding which trimmer to update to a couple of years back, Everyone seemed to be using the Friscars but I didn't like it as I do use mine upside down, so kept looking & then when Creative Memories bought out their new one & I watched the demo from one of their consultants, I knew that it was the one for me. So purchased it. I like it because the blade is hidden in a cartridge & only comes out to cut when you press it down & push, I get clean edges & can do all the same things as the Friscars & now that I have gotten used to using it, love it. I can easily swap the cartridge if I wish to use a scoring blade or a zigzag etc. I have four different types of blades but there are more you can buy. I am still using my first blade although it will need changing soon. I keep the spares beneath the light weight trimmer in specially designed spaces for them. I also keep a couple of spare trim strips as they wear out quicker than the blade but I suspect that I am a bit heavy handed when using it as I am with most things I have noticed. I do keep my old system for cutting things not pertaining to my scrapbooking. Example, I cut up tokens for my schoolteacher daughter that she gives to the kids when they are good etc. So I don't waste my good cutting blade on that job. Same as scissors, some you use for certain things & others for general use & you get very irate if they walk!! Like my hair cutting scissors did!! Or when someone tried to borrow my fabric scissors!! 😂 I think that we are all different & each to her own, but it is nice to try them out first before one spends the money on them, so crops are good places to start if the ladies don't mind.

Chelsey, I was also having a bit of a learning curve on this trimmer. But as I watched Tims video again, he holds his entire hand over the (wide) palm rest when cutting. I think that causes the presser to be transferred so the rotary blade pushes against the cutting edge. Changing how I hold my hand has helped me get a no fail cut every time. I also have to be conscious of moving my blade entirely to the top or bottom when done cutting, otherwise you can’t get your paper in for the next cut. I’m ultimately very happy as I do tons of mixed media and am very tired of the constant expense of the disposal blades. Since I also use various trimmers that take no thought…I just have to initially think about these things when I start cutting on this trimmer. Hope this helps!

I have EXACTLY the same issues as you! My biggest two are fuzzy edges (operator error??) and not being able to precisely line things up to cut. I love that it’s lightweight, but I do end up taking out my guillotine cutter and a small cutter for small cuts. I will keep this and use it, but hope to find an all-in-one cutter someday. 🤞🏼

I really wanted to buy it when it 1st came out but I Heald out to see some more reviews. My best friend bought it, and her big complaint was not getting a clean cut too! She thought maybe it was the quality of paper she was using that day and I don't know if she was trying in both directions. She also didn't like how high up the blade/handle sits. It kind of got in her way. I will have to ask her how she likes it now! Thanks for your review!

I use both inches and metric measurements so I like the idea of the measurements top and bottom. I appreciate the metric on the top at the lower ruler.

I think this is a great and very accurate review. If someone asked me if they should buy it, I would say it’s over priced for what it does. I agree with the comments that most everybody made. When I first got it, I was going to return it, which the company was very willing to do. The manager actually called me from tonic and talk me through the right way to cut, which is almost at an angle with your hand it’s hard to describe. It shouldn’t be that hard to use for the amount of money that they are asking for this product. There are absolutely no directions on the box and we talked about that as well. He said tonic would do better in the future with directions.

AMAZING review...it helped knowing that you PAID FOR the product instead of being given the product for your review. I'm not sure I'm ready for the move...I always find it difficult to put paper under the clear guard instead of just lifting the bar.

There are a couple other YT channels that said the same thing about the fuzzy edges and not getting clean cuts both ways. they were unhappy and one said she wanted to return it. Thanks for sharing.

Omg from day one I've had this problem and still do... I've watched all the videos too including yours and still have the same problem....I thought it was because when I cut from top and my paper is on bottom rough cut 100% of time 😢...I get so frustrated so I just use my TH guillotine cutter.....thanks for this review. I have a small Wrmk guillotine cutter and I find pushing the blade slightly to the left gives me a perfect cut. It’s been the case with every guillotine cutter I’ve used, large or small. I also have a Fiskars rotary cutter, 20+ years old, that I only use for 12x12 paper. I’ve never changed the blade and it’s still works like a dream.

I purchased this trimmer, and really like it, but I have had some of the same issues that you have experienced -- fuzzy edges, and difficulty in finding just where the paper is in the trimmer. I am glad it isn't just me but I wish there was a great solution. I do like that it can cut through a variety of materials and I am not having to run to the laundry room (where I keep my guillotine trimmer) to cut large and heavy pieces of paper. I'm used to the side pressure as I use the Cutterpiller and you have to do the same thing with that too. I think that it it the gear drive that makes this need.

The thing that turned me off about this trimmer is that there are no measurement lines on the right side of the blade , like the rotary fiskars I have had for at least 12 years. Mine has 2 inches on the right side of the blade and I use that often.

I have the Fiskars rotary cutter and I love it! Smooth cut on anything I have cut so far, it has a skinny base with a fold out table for larger sheets of paper and it’s not that heavy. I’m not sure what it cost; my husband bought it for me for my birthday a while back and I have nothing negative to say about it…..yet.

I bought it, struggled with rough cuts and finally returned it. I'm currently using a large (folding platform) Fiscars rotary cutter and the small Tonic guillotine.

Thank you Chelsey, this was really helpful! I have been on the fence about this trimmer. I have acquired a ridiculous number of trimmers on my hunt for the perfect trimmer. I have every Fiskars trimmer and I go nuts when the cut isn't straight(I think the ruler ears out) and of course you have to replace blades. I love the rotary trimmer however it is too big to be my every day trimmer. I have the Cricut trimmer and that is the by far the worst trimmer I have owned. The struggle is real!

Great video Chelsea, thanks for taking your time to help others. I have a few different rotary trimmers, I like them alright but could never use them to replace my blade trimmers because you can't start cutting in the middle of paper to gut a piece of paper out. Hope this helps someone too. 🤓

Thank you for the honest review and your careful explanations and good videos along with your explanations. I have looked at this trimmer a few times and thought about it. My issue is cutting small pieces, as you noted. I have the smaller Tim Holtz guillotine trimmer and the finger guards are great to hold the paper but, you can't do small cuts with it. I know it's expensive to continuously replace blades and those blades on the Fiskar's Aluminum Cut Rail trimmer are a bugger to get out. But it cuts tiny pieces and it cuts straight (something I had trouble with using the Sure Cut Deluxe Craft Trimmer from Fiskar. Maybe there is not a perfect, one does it all on the market, yet. LOL. There is also the learning curve aspect you mentioned. I now consider the learning curve and the time it takes as well as the frustration when things are not going well. Both take the enjoyment from crafting for me. So, I think I'll stick to the Fiskar's Aluminum Cut Rail trimmer for now and just buy stock in the blades. LOL. I appreciate your honest and thorough review.

As I was watching your video it was obvious what was the problem with ragged cuts, before you disclosed the Tonic reply. It is a matter of physics with all blades that slide. Pushing the paper against the measuring ridge applies force and stability and I am happy the measuring is there for both ends. Thank you for your honest review.

Thank you for this excellent and honest review. Like you, I bought this trimmer almost as soon as it hit the market and, like you, I really wanted to love it and wanted it to be the “perfect” trimmer. But it wasn’t, at least for me. Perhaps it’s because I tend to cut more precision cuts exactly on a line. And as you point out, I didn’t find it that easy to see exactly where the blade was going to travel on this trimmer and often ended up cutting either a bit inside or outside of where I intended. I don’t cut large quantities of paper or heavy papers, or cut things in half or strips as I’m not a card maker. And I too, have trouble getting a perfectly clean cut even though I have watched Tim do it numerous times. So I found myself turning back to my Fiskars more often than not. Since your video came out, however, Tim and Tonic have released the new precision trimmer which is only $34.95 and which comes very close to being my perfect trimmer at a fabulous price. Although I love my Fiskars, I find it very difficult to see the wire that indicates where the blade is going to cut and find the Tonic precision trimmer much easier to see where my cut will be. I love all the measurements, the floating paper holder (don’t know what else to call it), and how clean the cut is. It feels very well made and substantial although it is very light and easy to move around. I like that it comes with a creasing blade rather than having to purchase it separately like I did with the Fiskars. Since we all have different crafting needs, I’m sure the rotary cutter is perfect for some crafters needs but not so much for mine. I’ll still hang on to it but the precision cutter is what I will use on a daily basis. It’s really, really close to being my perfect trimmer. I’d love to see you review that one as well.

It’s good to hear a negative with a Tim holtz product. That’s sounds ridiculous I know but while everyone is wrapped in his products almost sighting them as the holy grail, I have not had that experience. I went out and bought several of his products because of the rave reviews but now I hesitate to purchase any new releases. Not all I can complain about of course and I’m very happy with the ones that live up to hype but some have serious flaws. Thanks for your honest review.

Thank you for this review! I had really wanted this trimmer. The cost and (my) being left handed were my only deterrents but you’ve sealed it for me. I have progressive lenses and I like being able to see the exact spot I’m cutting. Being left handed means I also often use a trimmer backwards. It sounds too complicated for that!

I notice you will hold papaer against bottom edge and push blade up. Correct use is if paper against bottom edge cut down I think or it can push paper slightly and not as straight a result

Recently came across this tip if your trimmer blade is dull: Place a piece of scrap paper under the paper you're cutting. The scrap paper will give you a clean cut on the paper you're trimming. It works! I use my junk mail as scrap paper.

Thanks so much. I was having the same problem with fuzzy edges…and thought maybe i need a new blade or something. I’m glad I didn’t invest in the new blade. I agree that it’s impossible to get really super precise cuts for my cards. It isn’t one and done for sure, but it does have a place in my craft room.

Great review. You NEED to get the white Cricut blade trimmer to use along side of your bigger trimmers. It is by far the best portable blade trimmer. It has a low initial pricepoint and the blades are very inexpensive to replace. Always look for a sale. I pay less than $3 on average for 2 replacement blades. On top of that, this trimmer is very acurate and sturdy. I own 2 for different purposes. My rotary trimmer is the Fiskar that folds. I also highly recomend it. You can keep and use it folded (small footprint) and use it fully extended when necessary. The only complaint I have is that it folds on the 6" to 6.5" mark and that's a bit distracting to me. Agree - love White Daisy but it's tough to cut smoothly!

I have the same "cons" as you. Cant exactly judge where the cut line will be, cutting tiny pieces rough edge when cutting in 1 direction & expensive!

I purchased a Cutterpillar 12 inch trimmer. I love it! I love that it has a self sharpening blade with a lifetime warranty. I also love that it has a light on the cutting path. I wish I had advice to help you with the Tim Holtz trimmer. I only have a Tim Holtz 8.5” guillotine and I love it! But you make a good point, it’s not the safest with toddlers.

Another problem with this trimmer is you can't raise the bar. Say you want to cut washi tape ,duck tape or something sticky it's impossible to get it under the cutting blade. With the !Fisker's you can raise the bar, stick it on and cut. Thanks for the review

I had seen Jennifer McGuire's review of this trimmer as well and purchased this very early on. I do concur with most everything you said. I am not having any ragged edge issues but maybe the slice back and forth comes a little more naturally to me than you. One thing I found that did not cut as well as I thought it would are foam sheets. I like to use them rather than foam tape because I can cut the big sheets just slightly smaller than the pictures I am popping up. It seems the foam sheets provide better support for photos and are cheaper than using lots of foam tape. The foam sheets cut better in my Fiskar Super Delux Craft Paper trimmer which I also use for making small paper size trims. I agree with you too, that I am glad I purchased it, but could I recommend it as the end all and be all. No. Especially for the reasons you mentioned.

Same mine just got delivered and after trying it many times with 6x6 designer paper, i have fuzzy cuts, so disapointed but after watching tims video again. He says its a mixed media trimmer and for more thicker papers than the regular designer paper pads...so yes i tried doubling the paper and it cuts so smoothly! and then i tried card stock again smooth. but doubling or tripling thin paper again fuzzy! it just doesnt cut through or it fuzzes thinner papers. Sad cos its so expensive, i should have waited before i paid $165 for mine 😞

I love my trimmer just sick of the blades dulling but so I heard if u get some kitchen foil and cut aload of times it helps sharpen the blades. The fiskers trimmer is very similar to my trimmer and uses the same blades my blades are £4.50 for 2 blades on Amazon and the trimmer is paper fuel

Thank you for your honesty. I am a huge fan of Tim Holtz and jumped at purchasing this trimmer. It was very pricy and not worth it. I am also having issues with fuzzy edges and had to purchase new blades which like you is a reason I did not buy another Fiskers trimmer. Also tried several suggestions on how to get rid of the fuzzy edges in video comments but no luck. Did I get a lemon?! 🤔 I get I will have to use different trimmers for different projects but only if it would work.

I have the same problem. This was almost $200.00 with exchange, custom/border fees and taxes for me (Canadian) and it is a paper weight now, unless I cut chipboard. Back to Fiskars.

Thankyou, Chelsey. I have been thinking about this trimmer. I do have problems with my eyes. I have 4 trimmers now. I want just one. I don't know what to do. I have probably {more than} 4000 12x12 paper & need the markings top, middle & bottom. I can hardly use my Fiskars huge trimmer because it takes a lot of pressure to use & I have to stand up now. I need something easier & am considering this.

I have the Fiskars ProCision™ Rotary Bypass Paper Trimmer for over 8 yrs (paid $70 with a 50% coupon from Michaels at the time) and its still great and still with the original blade & the only prob I had was the plastic cutting guide cracked & Fiskars sent me a whole new cutter of which I gave to a friend & then asked my friend to request just the cutting guide & they sent it to her and she gave it to me. I did buy the Tim Holtz trimmer for 20% off through Stampers Anonymous through preorder. Though I do like the light weight feel, I too agree that the plastic trimmer guide doesnt go up to the long cutting edge like the Fiskars Pro does to see your exact cuts, thereby the visability of TH Trimmer is a big let down for me as the cutting rail prohibits me and I have to lean my head over to the see and watch where the blade goes and and secondly not able to cut more sheets at once.

I have just bought this rotary trimmer and I did not expect it to cut into a card, say 4" because it is obviously not really designed for that purpose, that is why, like you I use my Tonic trimmer for that process only. I have also watched another crafter on You Tube having the same trouble with the rough edges, but I must say I have not found this problem at all. Maybe it just might be a design fault with your particular trimmer. I, like you am hoping to save a lot of money buying replacement blades every few months. I know the initial cost is a lot but I am well pleased with mine. Please let us know any developments. Thankyou.😍

Thank you for your honest opinion of this tool. I have no problem running the blade up or down for a clean cut. I just push to the left with my fingers and rest my thumb on the other side of the blade carriage. I love that it is an accurate cut. I never could get straight cuts with my Fiskars cutters. Drove me nuts! Always crooked! And yes, pricey blades. And storers were always out of refills. Grrr! Fiskars are easier to see where to cut, agree with that. That is my biggest con with this tool. But the lightness of it is better than the Fiskars rotary tool. It is wonderful for chipboard which i use a lot of. I use heavy papers too. This is a dream for them. Agree….depends on what is important to your crafting style as to what works for each of us. I still keep my blade handy for tiny pieces. Mo trimmer does that well for me.

I cut very easily in both directions. Always have paper/card against an edge and start with blade at opposite side of trimmer. I have used fiskars rotary trimmer last 5 years and this is much easier. And lighter better to take to crop.

Thanks for the info. I thought I was doing it wrong too, but I notice I needed to tilt the blade against the edge and it would cut better. And I agree it’s hard to cut the little pieces. I guess there’s just no cutter that can do it all.

Thanks for the informative and honest video. With regards to clean cuts, are you moving your paper so that it is butt up against the opposite end? If you are cutting top to bottom, paper should be on bottom ruler edge. If you are going bottom to top with blade, paper is pushed up to top ruler. I saw this tip somewhere as it braces the paper. I have the cutterpillar and that looks similar. I don’t think it always cuts straight either. Esp with the arm out. I like how the tonic one has 2 arms and it looks light weight.

i have had the exact same experience except that I can't get a clean cut either direction.

For the price I wish the arms extended to accommodate 17 inch long paper. My 'good' card stock is 12.5in x 17in

I'll watch for sales or some special promo before I buy. I want one for the size and weight because my big 14x14 school type wooden guillotine is heavy and awlward to move around and takes up too much room on my table just to cut down a few sheets, plus it's harder to get accurate measures. I love my smaller TH guillotine and use it constantly. Tonic does make some good products and some duds that I've wasted money on, so reviews are important. TH did say in his video that you need to sort of push the rolling blade towards the left as you cut,but i can also tell that putting stock in exactly the right place may be hard to do with the blade guard, and the beam being right over the cutting blade means you can't see down on it so you have to trust the rulers.

Nothing beats a guillotine trimmer imo. I've chucked every rotary trimmer I've tried. Also never fully trust a Jennifer McGuire review when it's for her friends' products. She'll never provide the cons or constructive critique of her friends' products. She just omits those parts and it's nothing but love and light and that's not useful for a review. I usually find channels that aren't free marketing for the companies (such as yours) and watch those reviews. Theirs are the comprehensive reviews.

I really want a trimmer cut 8.5 x 11 120# cardstock either landscape or portrait for A2 sized card bases. My sm. guillotine trimmer can't do that. I'm not willing to pay over $100 for any trimmer that requires me to put more pressure on arthritic fingers. I'm also eft handed, tho pretty ambidextrous Thanks for your honest review.

I did the same thing for the same reasons as you except mine is a very nosy pet that likes to poke his paw under things! So my big guillotine is safely tucked away where he can't even see it. Problem is, it's big and heavy. The mere thought of having to dig it out from where it sits, crushes my crafting mind. lol So I went out and bought one of these rotaries where he can't harm himself as his paw won't fit under the blade housing. : ) I love it, just not sure how to get it at the exact place. It is a cheaper one but that shouldn't be the problem, I'd say it's user error. lol

Thanks for an honest review! Everyone goes ga-ga over certain brands whenever something new is released, just because of the name it seems. Once bought it’s the product that matters, not the brand! Not every product meets everyone’s needs, or budget. I tried this at a friend’s, and am glad I did not buy it. I have a different rotary trimmer for bigger jobs that fits my needs, and a small guillotine one at my craft table, perfect for all my needs! 🧑🏼‍🎨😀🌺

Thanks for an honest review. I’m considering purchasing this but the problems with fuzzy edges seems to come up a lot! I already have a Fiskars rotary and use WeR memory keepers cut and score board for smaller cuts but need something that can cut chipboard. I have issues with hand strength and cutting it with a craft blade doesn’t work well anymore. However, it would be a pretty expensive chipboard cutter if that’s all I can use it for. Are you still having the same issue with it, or did you figure out a fix?

I am having the same issue. I can only cut from bottom to top. I have been thinking that something is wrong with my blade. It cuts great from bottom to top, it even sounds different cutting from top to bottom.

If I cut from the top down, I get a fuzzy cut, but cuttings from the bottom up up gives a clean cut. It’s hard to remember to do that.
