Aegean Trip Report flying from Heraklion to Athens onboard one of the Aegean Airbus A320ceo but painted with the A320neo livery on a perfect summer morning.
Our very first time in Heraklion and I must say I had a great experience. You could feel the holidays atmosphere all around the terminal. The airport was crowded with tourists from every part of Europe. We could spot lots of different airlines at Heraklion airport, both traditional and holiday airlines.
The flight itself was a short hop over the Mediterranean sea. After a very scenic and low right turn, we flew at a low level over the Mediterranean. The views of different islands but especially Athens in the final approach were just amazing. A great experience with Aegean that I'm looking forward to repeating.

I loved Athens and the Greek islands I went to many years ago, when there was still Olympic Airways. I flew on British and Olympic to Rhodes for a few days then Heraklion. Really enjoyed Crete. Lastly we took the hydrofoil to Santorini and regular ferry back to Athens later on. Would like to go back to Greece one day soon. Excellent video!

9:06 Crete has 3 Airports for Civil Aviation in Heraklion (HER) Chania (CHQ) (its also for the Airforce) Sitia (JSH) and one more in Kastelli for the Hellenic Airforce only (ICAO: LGTL). Also in Kastelli they’re building a new International Airport as a replacement for HER.

Welcome to Greece Lucas.I hope that you enjoyed your staying here mate.Greek islands are full of people these days.It's Summer and Greece is famous for Summer vacation like the Canaries in Spain and other islands like Ibiza,palma de Malliorca etc.The airports are very crowded and there are a lot of flights coming in and going.Aegean today has another airline to compete Sky Express with new planes like A320NEOs and Dashs with low fares and great service.So they must keep providing good service and reliability.Nice to see this wonderful report my friend.Cheers

Unfortunately ferries don't operate during winter. We have to go this year to Greece Yannis. I will not look at the crowd and squeeze myself in. They are all wearing masks anyway. I've been to those places you mentioned early 80s. All during January. No crowds I already checked Aegean Airlines. I have to check Sky Express. Thanks.

Very good! And I love Greece, especially Crete. There were really a lot of different airlines. I love the new Aegean livery also, but I find the last livery was also fine. Oh yes this airport isn't very high. The weather on this flight was so well. I think Aegean is a good airline for short flights.

Nice video. It will be our first time to visit those islands too this year. Priority check in is really needed and a must after seeing those crowds at every small airport in Greece. Unbelievable to see all those different airlines bringing people to the islands especially during summer. How about those huge cruise ships? Not too relaxing anymore from Day1 when we leave the US airport.

Greece is always a great travel destination, wherever you plan your trip. I was a little shocked to see the angle of descent. That was very steep! What was the altitude during this trip? It couldn't have been more than 23.000 ft. Love those views on a clear day!

Are you going to review flights through small airports like Memmingen any time soon? The airport that I mentioned was so cool because I could literally lie on the grass outside and watch planes, there was also a open air cafe there :) I flew IEV-FMM-PMI with WizzAir and Ryanair then :)

I came back from my vacation in Crete a few hours ago... Arrival hall was ok, not very crowded. But when we got back to the airport 10 days later... Bruh it was STUFFED with ppl at check-in. Security was efficient, but the airside was full of people and waiting lines and we couldn't sit anywhere :(((. It's also pretty outdated. I was so relieved when we got into the Tui 737. HER is definitely my most hated airport

Hola amigo, yo estuve en Atenas procedente de Amsterdam por KLM, se trata del mes de febrero del año 2011, ya que ese tiempo no había tanta gente como podemos apreciar ese vídeo. El aeropuerto ateniense se llama Eleftherios Venizelos y es nuevo y más moderno, ya que el aeropuerto de Helenikon es viejo desde los tiempos de Aristóteles Onassis debería ser como museo porque ahí entraban los ricos y famosos de ese entonces. Te recomiendo que visites la ciudad de Pireos y vale la pena. Mil saludos desde la ciudad de Panamá. Luis ✈️

I flew with Aegean and it was brilliant. Try to fly in Cyprus with Vueling from Barcelona. It's the only flight from Spain to Cyprus

It's such a great feeling to see the airport busy again. Now they can start living again, pay employees and take care of there family. This should have started much earlier. Better late than never, however as the people who have the control (us) this can never happen again. We will be feeling the affects for along time to come, as it relates to business issues, labor shortages (no one should be unemployed with all the jobs that can't be filled) and last is the supply chain issue, many things roll up into that problem! And it's not looking good!!

Como siempre, un magnífico vídeo. Me llamó muchísimo la atención que en el aeropuerto de Creta no hubieran fingers, recordándome al aeropuerto de Madeira. Ir a las islas griegas es un sueño que espero que pronto se haga realidad. Poco a poco se va recuperando el turismo y espero que pronto esta pesadilla finalice. Espero verte pronto por Tenerife. This airport is closing down soon. There is a new airport being built not too far away at the old US military base. The airport is said to be even better than the current one in Athens. The Athenian airport is also getting a new terminal which will only handle international flights. Aegean is the best airline to fly to and out of Greece; my only complaint is that it does not fly to North & South America as well as Australia and a few other areas once covered by Olympic. While you may think that the airport was busy, during preCovid times it was much, much more busier.

Crete actually has 3 airports. Heraklion, Chania, and Sitia ( JSH ).

I flew with Aegean from Heraklion had big delays too much turmoil many complains waiting big lines before check-in .

if you choose to flight from Germany to Athens (or from Athens to Germany), especially if it is frankfurt (or maybe even Munich), chances are, that you will get to fly on an Aegean neo!

Crete doesn't have 2 airports. It has 4 in total. Herakleion, Chania, Sitia and Kastelli

Negative. It's a normal A320, but they've but the Neo livery to all A320's =/

Nice Trip Report, but Heraklion in is to much crowded. It's the worst airport i´ve ever been in these times.

Really? Didn't you like the airport? I mean, the check-in area is nt very beautiful... but the airside was nice in my opinion. Maybe because it was my first time on a Greek island it looked nice than it was :D
