Amid a blistering heatwave in Southern California, many residents are flocking to Lake Perris in Riverside County to cool off.
With an excessive heatwave warning in place and temperatures set to hit triple digits across the Southland this week, local and state officials have activated resources toward an Extreme Temperature Response Plan by opening free cooling centers across most counties and enforcing heat protections for outdoor workers.
KTLA's Shelby Nelson reports on July 2, 2024.

You just can’t put relaxing in “Refreshing water” and a “drowned missing man” in the same news 😂

As a Mojave desert transplant. Please understand this isn't just complaints about typical summer temperatures. It's because each summer is getting progressively more hotter. Case in point when I first moved to the desert 3 years ago we had temperatures of 100, the next year we were seeing 110, and now this year we're expecting to see 116. Give me hot any day, not unstable, slowly rising temperatures at an alarming rate. Yes the typical summer temps fluctuate here, but the number of "record breaking" temps continue to be uncomfortably common.

The 10 warmest years on historical record occurred in the past decade, 2014 to 2023. Thats not normal. And we keep beating temp records. So its not just that heatwaves and hotter summers are happening mote frequently, were also experiencing higher temp averages.

It's not just summer, it's the fact that summer has been getting increasingly hotter every year that passes. Is it usually hot, yes, but not like this. Unstable temps are terrifying, especially if you live without AC, like myself. Where I live in the Mojave, for example, summer temps have gone up 5 degrees each year since I moved here. Locals are even stunned. Over 3 years it's gone from 100 degree summers, to 110 the next year, now this year we're seeing 116!!!! That's extremely abnormal and unsettling.

for all those who don't know, this year is near solar maximum. The sun goes from solar minimum to solar maximum and back every 11 years. That means this year there is more solar activity than about 5 and a half years ago, and 5 and a half years from now we will be at solar minimum. Please don't be scammed by people who think short term temperature projections are accurate to geological timescales.
@WorkwithMe287
@WorkwithMe287 2 дня назад
Does that mean after this year were going to experience lower temps? Because the past 10 years straight have been the warmest on record, with 2023 being the warmest.

@@shamancredible8632 So based on the projections of this solar maximum having some of the hottest temps on record, that means the next one will be even hotter at peak temps. Thank you for the awesome info. That is even scarier to think about.

I'm with you.. So glad I left that lost cause state. And not because of the weather. Because of all of the other b.s. that is California. It's too late to save it, total lost cause. Sad. Very sad. Its truly a beautiful state without the ppl in it. But it only continues to get worse and worse. These past 4 years have utterly put the nails in the coffin. Biden has ruined this country especially boarder state, but now all states r waking up and realizing what's been happening to boarder states all of this time. Totally destroyed this country.. PERIOD....

@WorkwithMe287
@WorkwithMe287 2 дня назад
@@manicmechanic24 10 consecutive years our planet’s been the warmest on record. Thats unprecedented. 2023 was the warmest earths ever been. Fyi, in my area (sac), were looking at breaking the record for most number of consecutive 100 f plus temps if were going by the forecast. And these numbers arent just in the low 100s. Theyre 105 and above. Theres a reason home insurance companies are leaving the state or increasing their premiums. They know the risk of wildfire better than anyone i know. Hurricane beryl out east? Broke 4 records that go all the way back to the 1800s. What people here are saying is true, summers are always going to be warm. But thats a blanket statement that ignores the fact that “warm” isnt always going to be the same number in the thermometer. Im happy your getting a kick out of this and im sure your staying cool and cozy in your climate controlled home, but not everyones as fortunate as you. Just try not to buy all the bs big oils shoving at you and be a bit more open minded about climate change. Theres a ton of easily verifiable facts available out there.
