The polycote on the CZ P-01 That I had was chipping from using the mag bottom to push the slide lock/linkage out for take down. The magazine base was rubber/soft material but it would give way under pressure and put some pock marks by the hole. CZ recommends that practice but I stopped and used a broken plastic pick to push it through. I think it is the aluminum frames that aren't so great at holding the coatings. Neither of my steel framed CZs had that issue.
Very good point, I'm sure the aluminum frame does have something to do with it. I have had no problems thus far with my other aluminum framed offerings from Canik though, shark FC and T120, however, I haven't shot them as much either.
I know this is an old video, but I dont use kydex holsters on metal frame pistols, polymer frame pistols only.. Metal frame guns get good quality leather holsters.. just something i've learned over the last few years..
To my knowledge, the T100 is the only gun in the Tristar/Canik line that uses an alloy frame. I'll bet this is where your finish problems arise from. The Cerakote just must not adhere as well to the alloy as it does to steel.
I don't necessarily disagree that this could be the reason, however, the L120, T120, and if I'm not mistaken the c100 (at least the 9mm version) all use alloy frames as well. I've not seen any widespread finish issues with these so I do think that my gun is not representative of the alloy frame Caniks and their finishes.
I have the Tristar T-100 also and the ceracote is thin on the frame. The wear of ceracote on the internal surfaces is expected. To repair little spots on my gun's ceracote I used a Birchwood Casey Super Black touch-up pen in Flat Black. I think they're on Amazon among other places. My holster is a IMI-Z5001 which is great, check them out for this gun for concealed carry. I have the stock grips but I put on a rear sight which was probably too much trouble but it's done. These guns rock. I'm a CZ fan but these are cool too.
I'm sure the holster isn't helping it any, but the problem with my finish isn't the typical holster wear, it's the cerakote chipping in some spots. I don't disagree with you though, leather is best to protect the finish in most cases.
Tristar has a 5 year warranty on their pistols, I'd send it in to them. It's probably because the some of the frames on the Tristars are alluminum, so finishing is a little different process than it would be for a steel frame.
I'll have to look at my paperwork. I've had this one almost three years, did they have the 5 year warranty in 2013? If they did, I may, but to be honest I'd be afraid they'd just send me a new gun or new frame or something. I don't want either. I guess I could call them and see what they say.
Hindsight being 20/20, I wish I'd gotten the all steel P120 for full size and the T100 for a compact. That being said, I'll probably keep my T120 forever. Even a real Jericho/Baby Eagle cannot be upgraded/customized this much and CZ does not make this form factor (shape, material, or finishes).
similaritiesendhere I like them both, they each (p120 and t120) have their advantages. The p120 has that heft that just feels great and helps with recoil, but then the t120 has those great lines, and is also very easy to shoot despite its lighter weight. If you ever come across an earlier imported shark fc with the compensated (ported) barrel, buy it, it’s one of my favorite caniks.
@@darink300zx I wanted the FC originally but, they're were gone from retail and the rest of the 100/120 line is going to gone soon too. It's sad that no one really noticed Canik until the SFX came out. The SFX is the only reason I found out about their CZ75's. A lot of people missed out. In my continuing research it seems like the benefits of the FC don't outweigh the hassles (muzzle flash, cleaning). I'd still love one as a collectable.
darink300zx Hey great video man, I have one question for you. I know you specified Baby Desert Eagle as the holster you were using for this gun but when I went onto Aliengear to pick me up one, I found that there were a few of those options to chose from and I was hoping you could tell me which one it was before I shell out $50 to pick me up a holster for this gun.
Thanks for the compliments. The holster I ordered was for the magnum research baby desert eagle (IWI). Unfortunately, I just looked at their website (and my order history to be sure I told you the right one) and it appears they are "currently unavailable". I know that doesn't help much. Thanks for watching and the comment.
darink300zx Thank you for taking the time to let me know. I'll keep my eye on their website and get one ordered as soon as they have them in stock. Thanks again!
This is probably too late to help you but, maybe it'll help somebody else. Why are you limiting yourself to baby eagle holsters? Both guns are CZ75 clones. My T-120 fits perfectly in an SP-01 kydex holster. Everyone and their mothers makes CZ holsters.
Great gun for the price but as you said the finish is not that great,,,, mine also is getting some wear around the sharp edges... Doesn't bother me as it's such a great gun for $350 brand new
Yeah, to me it's not a big enough deal to worry about, but if it continues to get worse I may have it refinished. Mine shoots too good for me to bother with it right now. My other caniks aren't showing this cerakote issue so I wonder if they just did a bad run of the t100s or something.
is the trigger guard stoping it from going all the way in or the barrel?if it is the barrel I would cut 1/2 inch off the front of the holder and it would go all the way.i have the same pistol and love it,also have a canik tps9.awsome pistols, especially for the money.cant beat em...!
I'm not sure what you mean, the T100 fits all the way in the holster. The trigger guard locks in the molding just fine. It may seem loose, but that's only because I wasn't wearing it. When it's pressed against you the tension is there to keep the gun nice and secure.
No worries, I can see how it could look that way. Oh and by the way I have the TP9SA as well and love it too, I plan on doing a video soon, just got so many other things going on it seems. Thanks for watching.
pickin4you I don’t disagree with you in regards to honest wear, but this imo isn’t normal wear, the finish is chipping off in places. As I said though, I won’t be sending it back, I only did this follow up video due to some questions I’ve gotten from viewers about how the finish is holding up.
Cerakote is very questionable finish. This finish is one of the major reasons my first gun wasn't a Canik TSA, or TSF, but reliable and well-coated Glock 19.
Yeah, I get that, but I haven't had any issues with the finish on my other caniks. I don't know for sure, but the TP9SA I have seems to be better than the other caniks I have, maybe it's not cerakote or they are just getting better with it? I'd prefer a nitrided or parked finish, but when you consider the price point these caniks are coming in at, I can't complain. This little T100 even with the finish issues, is still a great little shooter.
I absolutely love this gun too. But,, I also noticed the finish, especially around the edges and sharp corners have chips ( although very small) This is the only negative thing I can nic pik this fantastic firearm about! $350, cz75 compact Baby Eagle design! I put Cool Hand; sunburst style grips in coyote color on this beast and she will bite your ass..
if you reload like usual and you use normal force to reload as you would in good training does the slode release itself home easily? if that makes sense?
Sorry so late with a response, for some reason I missed your question. I haven't had that issue that I recall. You have to either release the slide yourself with the slide release or rack the slide yourself. At least that's been my experience.
They are from thailand actually, purchased off of Ebay. Just search eBay for grips for a CZ75 compact and to narrow it down you can add in Thailand, and you should see some like this or similar. They weren't terribly expensive, but shipping does take a few weeks.
Any CZ75 Compact grips will fit T, C, P100s. I used black checkered rubber direct from CZ-USA (with CZ emblem). Recommend highly over any el cheapo Thaigrips. Hammer and tip of take down pin rough, easily refined with file, stone, and sandpaper.
I'd assume if they did this one in .40 they'd make the frame all steel (like with the c100 in .40) otherwise it'd be very snappy I'd think. I wouldn't mind trying it in .40 though.
darink300zx absolutely, I've got the P100 in stock and my store and love it. Just think the T100 is a little sexier, and the nerd angle (Terminator) is fun. ;-)
