Songs like this always will ! SO MANY epic bands and guitarists from the 1980s. ( even though technically this was in 1979 ) Music has only gone downhill since...sadly.
I’m 61 and I’m now retired early because of some medical issues and when I’m in my shop at home, I’ve got an old pair of some Bose 301 in my shop with an old technics stereo with a turntable and a dual cassette player and I’m forever playing my favorite rock music and my neighbors for the most part is about our age (my wife and I) and they love listening right along. And it’s always mixed up music so you can enjoy all rock bands; Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, GNR, Van Halen, triumph. Just still love that old rock 🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️❤️
I am 56 Years Old. This song is a testimony of how great Triumph is. Fantastic music that is better than anything out today in 2023 as well as 2024... Unbelievable talent...Just Amazing..
Greta Van Fleet is pretty good. Saw them in concert a couple of months ago. One of the best concerts ever...and I've been to a lot. I wish they'd cover a few Triumph songs; they could pull it off.
I'm with you Lisa and what a great time for concerts as well and especially when it was general admission always on the floor right by the stage for all concerts
@@Flagrum3 Amen!! I bought Rock and Roll Machine when it came out too. I was in Jr high, but as soon as I saw the cover at the record store I knew I was going to like it. Bought it without even knowing who they were. Fell in love with the music on the first listen!!
@@TOPIKTOAD April Wine is quality. A close friend of mine showed me one of their songs awhile back. My question to him was 'who the hell is April Wine'. 🤣🤦♂️
years ago I saw triumph an yngwie malmsteen opened up fordon't get me wrong anyway was pretty talented he was supposed to be the top notch next big is staying here I was before you had his accident and s***I'm going to tell you something thoughRik Emmett got up on stage four tribes and man I'm going to tell you what I've never heard so much virtuoso on guitar that dude is awesome man he blew the doors off the opening act let's just put it that way that dude is a legend trium0h rocks!
The truth would suit a lot of us just fine so where did it go to. I came from the 60s 70 and 80s. What the he'll has happened. OH yea the 90s and the world of tech. So we lost the great music.
We had the best music growing up! We had the past to listen to and current times where so much awesome music was made in 70’s and 80’s. Current when we were kids and young adults. No music today comes close!
So so underrated, this band rocked, his voice never changed, great fucking music for a 3 piece , absolutely love them, great songsongwriting and musicianship. They let the music do the talking. Love them alot.
cracks me up how many people don't think the '80s bands had any talent. I'm endlessly impressed how many of them lead with 12-string intros. Nevermind the amazing harmonies many of these bands exhibited. The '80s were truly a great time for music.
Watch the first 45 seconds VERY closely! Rik Emmett pulls off a flawless LIVE overdub maneuver via an old-school Echoplex six-second analog tape-loop, plays the 6-string & adds vocals, then refreshes the loop with a modified 12-string phrase around the 24-second mark to overdub more 6-string & vocals up to around 45 seconds. Overdubs are pretty simple in a studio, but VERY tricky to do LIVE with an old analog tape delay loop.
this song was made in 1979 ! That being said we had Mountain , The Who, Ten Years After, Sabbath with Ozzy and Dio, Frank Marino, Hendrix, Neil Young, and the list goes on into the 80s ! how about those Damn Yankees that started in 1989 ? Then we have some bad ass bands like Buckcherry now , wasn't just the 80s, lots of great bands out there through the years !!
12 albums w/triumph and 20+ solo albums all platinum or better. The guy also taught college theory, classical & jazz. He's one in a million on a guitar...Rock was his light work 😁
This singer may be old now but omg the mojo, charisma, vocals, looks , charm etc ...... Y'all this is a Rock Star!!!! To have all these talents you have to be very special and have a kind heart....
I played this for my 17 year old son while I was making dinner, and he couldn't believe just how good these guys were. No auto-tune. 3 guys kicking a$$! I really feel bad that he doesn't have great music like this when I was younger. Anyway, this is some of his favorite stuff!
My kid turns 18 tomorrow and had his first day of college yesterday. He loves my music....can't stand today's music. He also likes the current country which much of is crossover, brought about by bands like Skynyrd, Hatchet, the Outlaws and Marshall Tucker...again, from our era! Kicks butt!
@@SolutionsWithinevery year since 2000 has gotten worse!!! Country tries to be Rock but sucks. Not sure what rock n roll is doing now. Music is really really sucking.
@@lenaaustin6692 Well actually Canada had a few power trio's, Rush comes to mind. There were others but I am short of time, gotta head to band practice.
GenX born in '67. Growing up, the thought never crossed my mind that "my music" would be abandoned and gradually replaced with auto-tuned, vulgar, divisive, cookie cutter, materialistic, over-sampled, copy-cat, promiscuous offerings of repetitive, mind-numbing sadness. The musical excellence of my generation is validated EVERY TIME I watch a young person listen for the first time, through RU-vid reaction videos, bands like Queen, Triumph, Iron Maiden, AC/DC, etc. It's like the scales fall from their eyes and they realize that they've been lied to their whole life.😊😊😊
I remember listening to Triumph back in the day and I STILL do! What a great kick-ass rocking band! Recently watched the documentary "Triumph: Rock & Roll Machine". Loved it!
That’s awesome I was born in 71 but raised on music like that and some of the best years of my life great songs we’re made like that oh and I always get those goosebumps when I hear an awesome song especially that one :)
1982 the year I was Born…Im jelly of yous guys that were the generation of teenagers during this era of time! Thank your for keeping the memories, the legends and the musical arts alive for us and generations to come…Keep Rocking no matter how old you get!
Windows down, endless night sky out front, and running 70 mph along the long country road. 18 years old not a care in the world other than the one beside me. Please god take me back to that moment so long ago.
For those of us that appreciate pure talent as opposed to all the hype this band is way the hell up on top of the charts for us! Let there be no doubt about that! Magic power
You're probably right- I hadn't heard of them, and I'm a Boomer. But I've never been into heavy metal. On the other hand, 15 million views isn't chump change.
This is one of those songs that came out of the 70's but you'd swear it was the 80's or 90's. Triumph was way ahead of their time. Classic song that's older than one would think. STILL rocks to this day.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this song!! I grew up with Ric Emmet’s voice during this era (too bad I didn’t take his advice with deadbeat boyfriends along the way, LOL 😆)…still rocking out to it in 2022, of course! Cheers!❤️😁😘🤟🏽
I swear I thought Triumph was an early 80's band. Of course I know this song from hearing it played thousands of times throughout my life, but I never knew that that was Triumph, and I always passed by their albums when I'm digging.
I agree with that. It sounds mid to late 80s. Awesome band even though they are Canadian. Just kidding. Seriously, I have a thing for Triumph and I also love love Rush.
My grandparents bought this album for me as a Christmas gift the year it came out..... Now.... 2024, I'm at home listening... dancing, and f'ing rockin' out.... damn, Rik Emmit is incredible....
My son is keeping classic rock alive by playing it live Give him some love. Writes in that style as well ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-69HJrrKvh7k.html
@@HomesteadingWays ... It happened SO fast, didn't it? I blinked, and I was "old"! Oh well. Happens to everyone (if you're lucky)! At least we were blessed to live through some great history and times; and thank God for film/video/vinyl/tape, and all of that great stuff! Cheers!!
I feel so blessed to of seen them in San Antonio back in the day..just an incredible band...No one can sing like Rik..most women can't even do it..not with the edge..and these guys could play the hell out of their instruments. Also one of the best singing drummers of all time.
This comment is so generically stupid because it's worn out!! I ride a Harley and it's like another worn out statement I always hear usually from these older hagged looking women. " I used to ride a Harley and I got the scars to prove it". The only thing you proved was how much of a shity rider you were. If you got scares that's telling me you crash alot. I would be embarrassed to let the Harley community know that I still need training wheels. Bottom line.....think more than 2 seconds before you try to make a bold tuff statement because those seconds sound like they are equivalent to your I.Q.
They had a lot of great songs, not simply the ones heard on the radio.😎 I have liked Triumph's music since I first heard it in late 1979, in high school. In fact, I use a snippet of "Lay It On The Line" as the ringtone for a lady that has been a good friend of mine since we were very young kids, over 50 years ago.😎 Edited to clarify: I don't use the snippet of this song for the ringtone for my lady friend because of 99% of the lyrics. I use it because of that 1% of the lyrics... simply "I want to love you. I want to make you mine...Lay it on the line. Don't waste my time." Simply because after all of these years, we reconnected a couple of years ago, and recently we began seeing each other romantically.🙂
Now boys and girls THAT is how ya do it... Singers actually played instruments usually as lead.. Not just posing and holdin their junk... This was talent
Incredible musicianship. What a voice! Music now, or what passes for music, is in the state it's in because people accept it. 50cent couldn't get a roadie gig for George Benson. It's a sad reflection on society these days.
RIP MYLES...jams like this will never die, your amazing spririt will live on forever. Thank you for all the great music. Nature of the Beast one of my highschool favorites along with Thin Lizzy's China Town/Renegade...great memories.😢
this is one of those songs that can transport you back to the time you first heard it. To be 15 again and know what I know now - I would surely be hell on wheels
FUCKING BEAUTIFUL SONG and no other way to describe it. Told my girlfriend at the concert....Lay-It-On-Line...We married six months later and spend 28 years together. Was an awesome concert!
Seems like yesterday I was watching videos like this on MTV , wow time has gone by so fast wish I could go back and live those days again. I'm glad you tube shows these videos it's cool to see them again 🙂
Seen Triumph & Molly Hatchet in 1983 when I was 17. I was a big big Molly hatchet fan. Never heard Triumph to that night. & it blew me away. This dude can sing & is right up there with the Guitar greats. And That voice, none I've seen with that vocal range.
And Triumph, as good as they were; were in a country with another world class power trio: Rush! Canada has given rise to some amazing musical talent! And I'm sure they're not done yet‼️
see kids, this is pure talent, he's actually singing that, no help, no autotune, no lipsinging...fifty years from now, this song will still be relevent, no one will remember who brittany spears is or was
@LKtube1 True. But compare how good Duran Duran is compared to today's music. Lol. I was never a big DD fan. Loved metal, punk, The Cure, Depeche Mode. It's still better than anything today. I love Triumph as well. In my top 3 best bands I've seen live. And I've seen many.
My big sister used to work in a record shop in Montreal suburbs and of course had all the new releases. She would lock her vinyls in a chest to make sure her siblings wouldn't scratch them... When she was away at work, I'd seek for the chest hidden key she had under the carpet :) and would get my hands on her treasure. My favorite song was Lay it on the line and I tried to sign along without having the lyrics. When I turned 15, she first took me to see Foreigner (Foreigner 4 tour, Montreal Forum). I was also waiting for Journey to come. They didn't. Saw Ozzie instead at 16 :) And then, she took me to see Triumph when I turned 18 (Thunder seven tour). I will never forget the amazing visual effects they had that night and got addicted to the band. Since then, I take Triumph with me wherever I travel to. No one will ever take Triumph away from me and my children better play it at my memorial :). When I need my space, I walk my beautiful Eleuthera beach out in the Bahamas and I listen to Lay it on the line, Midsummer daydream, Time Canon, Killing time, Magic Power and Little boy blues. Some nights, it's low tide and we have a full moon and the magic fully operates. It's out of this world. Rik, I owe you more than you'll ever know. No one will ever compare to you. CHOM FM in Montreal played you a lot man. They made sure you'd stand tall among the greatest of all times.
@@barryandreev8333 Hi Barry, actually I return to Montreal every other month because it's my hometown and friends and family are out there. Lucky enough to be able to work remotely when I'm here in the Bahamas. Thx for popping in 😎🍷
✔️Yep, and we had the spectre of nuclear annihilation ALWAYS looming over us! Yet I'd rather grow up under those circumstances, without smartphones and powerful personal computers, than to grow up in the 2000-2021 era! 🥱
Triumph had lots of great songs before they prematurely broke up, but Lay it On the Line is their masterpiece. As brilliant lyrically as it is musically. Rik's as talented vocally as well as instrumentality. They were one of best live bands I've ever seen!
A true kick-ass three piece band from Canada. I'm glad I got to see them. They couldn't do a lot of over- dubbing. Because when you go out on tour, you can't reproduce the same as listening to the album. They were just as good live as they were in the studio. I'm a 59 year old guitarist. We were indeed lucky to grow up when we did!! No cell phones, no internet, you just went out and grooved. They were amazing!!🤘🎸❤ ✌️
Been somewhat of a musician in school from 3rd grade up through high school and taught professional dancing and agree with you wholeheartedly. It was an era we grew up in that will never be again. Makes me sad and happy. Good music is out there it's just hard to find. We the people have to take our countries back from what has taken over if we want our freedom. Thank you and L&L 2U.
These guys shoulda made it as big as the Scorpions. This guitarist is fantastic and his singing is amazing! Im a guitar player and singer and i know how it can be to juggle all of those notes, words, etc. Would have been cool to add a couple more guitarists. They could have done lots then. Clearly this is the studio version played over a live showing. Theres too much going on not to be. But, add more musicians and it would have opened up more creativity with that lead stuff. Man..his skills blow mine away. And ive had years of guys like Slash and Eddie to benefit from...this guy is so good..i love the classical progression under the solo. So tasteful!!
Im 62 yrs old today and literally had to listen to this twice before I could comment, this is unmistakably one of the best songs and best performances I've ever witnessed in my entire life, these guys are goddamn good, sign me the metal granddad,
