Awesome review!! Really enjoyed that, and a great little history lesson with it too. Spitfires are awesome little cars if you get what it is to own a 1960s or 70's fun two seater sports car, they are just so much fun

You are absolutely right Steve. I was initialy quite sceptical to drive this car with only 72 PS, although I really adore the looks of it. But I enjoyed every second driving it. It showed me again, that you do not need 500+ hp and a perfect car to make you happy!

Fantastic - love my Spit - would be even better to drive in scenery like Switzerland! I have the 1500 with overdrive - when you're that low to the ground nothing quite like the Spit to take on a sharp corner and feel the G-Force :)

My favorite are the british cars. Driven many Rolls both new and classic including a 1987 Silver Spur 11 touring limo. by Mul. Park Ward. Drove that in the 90s for a customer.Always wore my driving gloves! Great job on the filming of the green 2dr Bentley! Im hooked on your channel! Thanks so much!

I have had 3 Spits and loved them all. The seating position in my last one, a 1500 gave me a bad back though and I had to sell it. Seriously thinking about getting another one.

The cool thing about the spitfire is that you can have loads of fun driving it at low speeds. And it looks good and has a great sound. The handling is not the best, but that is why it is that fun to drive.

I've own 2 spitfires, 69 and a 77, The 69 was well use, but then I bought a New one and enjoyed it. I was assigned to the Netherlands in the '70s and bought the new one in 77. I lived about 150 miles from Wiesbaden where there was a large PX. The fastest I ever made it was an hour and a half, driving down thru the eifle on a fairly new autobahn. I found out that my odometer was off just a little. When I was going 60 on it, I was actually going 71. The faster I went the more off it became. I don't want to know what I was doing when it read 130mph. I had the hardtop and overdrive. When I took it to the states, the car tore itself apart doing 55mph. I loved driving it but hated getting in and out. I broke the driver's seat back getting in and out.
@DrivingwithGloves
@DrivingwithGloves 4 года назад
1.5 h from the Netherlands to Wiesbaden is tremendously quick. I suppose it was the A3 where you were driving, because zhe A61 was not finished until the late 1980's?

Had three MkIII Spitfires, all very chuckable and you could (if you were brave) induce throttle steering. Yes, the rear suspension was iffy, but improved when you put a bag of cement in the boot. Prettier than the MkIV.

That is the very first car I ever owned in that same god-awful color and the first thing I did was paint lotus yellow, that's a dark yellow, but it was a very fun car and a very fabulous first car. Let's see what since , another 1980 triumph spitfire, TR 7, TR 8, dodge colt , Le Car, Honda Civic, 67 Cadillac coupe Deville, Miata 1990, Lotus M 100 Elan, 1964 jaguar XKE convertible Ginetta G 20 and several minivans. I would but a spitfire again, or tr3

His question is understandable. the term "Sports Car" has been so muddied that few people know that sports cars as originally envisioned were not the fastest, and there were overwhelmingly the smallest cars on the road. It was the Sports, as in Motorsports, mentality. You could buy a sports car, modify it, and go racing. There are less opportunities to do this in today's high-tech, regulated world.
@DrivingwithGloves
@DrivingwithGloves 2 года назад
Thank you very much for your fantastic answer on my question!
@mescko
@mescko 2 года назад
@@DrivingwithGloves You're very welcome. I honestly feel sorry for today's kids who would utterly reject the idea that the Spitfire is a 'Sports Car', because it doesn't have 1500 bhp and go 300 mph. The idea that it's the experience, the mystique, even the simplicity, that makes what we know is a sports car, has been completely lost to them. A shame. I have had a Mk. 2 Spitfire and 3 GT6's and currently own a nice MGB GT.
@DrivingwithGloves
@DrivingwithGloves 2 года назад
@@mescko I totally agree with you. The problem with the modern sports cars is that they are of course very fast, but you do not have to drive yourself, but the computer drives mainly for you. The feeling you get in for example in a Spitfire at speeds around 50 km/h, 30 mph, you will only get when you drive over 250 km/h in a modern sports car.
