In this final part to the caliper rebuild, I get one of them done. You'll have to see why I didn't do the other side (whoops!) I also rebuild the rear piston and adjuster.
If you are interested in more pictures of the restoration and detailed write-ups of what I'm doing, please visit my website www.roundtailre...

Hi Chris, glad to see another of your videos. I think that JG is correct about you assembling the seal the wrong way round on the piston. The way I sense check these hydraulic seals is to imagine the force of the oil acting on the rubber seal. If the oil is on the wider side, then it will tend to push the seal against the cylinder wall. However, if the oil is on the side with the smaller diameter, then it will tend to push the seal away from the cylinder wall leading to loss of pressure.

Yup, exactly what I thought Robin. Still put it in wrong, but exactly what I thought :) It's fixed now. Addendum video to follow. Thanks for the backup!

Hey Chris, thanks for this video. You just saved me from a caliper leak at the very least. I missed the seals between the calipers in my rebuild. About to order them from moss! And some extras for my spare calipers to be safe

Excellent video as always. Very detailed and informative. I love the torque sheet you have for all the bolts made. It’s a shame British leyland didn’t have something like that, I can’t find the correct settings for most of the bolts I’m putting back so just have to guess.

Do you have access to the workshop manual? You can find it online. At least for the Mk1/2 cars. Not sure about the newer ones. I'd be nervous doing that for critical fasteners (engine, suspension, brakes, etc.).

I've always used 45-55 Ft/Lbs for all British separating calipers. Never had a problem as long as you use new o-rings.

Thanks, Mike. I'll have to go back to my old notes, maybe that's what I did last time, too.

Quick Question, where did you get the replacement "O" Ring for your calipers? I can't seem to locate them... I have a '64 spitfire that I am rebuilding. Thanks!

I got them from Moss, which is the only place I could find them. The Moss part number is 583-820.
