A lap of Killarney circuit in Cape Town on my Triumph Tiger 800 XCx. Obviously not the perfect tool for the job, but she went better than I expected!

Tiger 800 has an outstanding engine. I am still riding a 2016 XCx and I don't think I'd change it for anything else.

fantastic riding, my congrats. I had a 800XR, for 5 years , swapped the oem springs with hyperpro progressive, did a great job in cornering, but you are riding exceptional without suspension upgrades, just wow.

found the tiger scrapes the pegs a lot and not sure how hard to push the batlewings. great to see you using the bike well.

Great demonstration of how well the Tiger runs in its high rev range; the gearbox seems to work well too, your upshifts are so quick. Do you close the the throttle at all or is it kept open while you use the clutch? What a versatile bike! CC

Thanks for the kind comment. I do close the throttle momentarily on upshifts yes. The gearbox on the Tiger is a real peach. I have from time to time toyed with the idea of fitting a quickshifter off a Daytona though... ;-)

battle wings arnt bad on tar. sports bike riders hate it when you pass them on xcx800 they look at the 21inch front wheel thinking how did they do that.

Looks good, did you adjust the suspension or leave it at stock settings? I've been toying with the idea of taking the XCx to the track for a laugh but looks to me that it might handle much better than expected.

Thanks. Yes, stock standard suspension settings too. That's actually something I was thinking about afterward: I'm sure it will be even better with a stiffer front, as it does nosedive a little under braking. But by all means take it to the track - guaranteed it will surprise you, even with stock settings.

@@DirkBrand34 did it bother you the fact that the rim is 21.... i mean i have an xrx and want to upgrade to xcx for off but i like to corner with confidence... same as the xrx or something to think about this. ?? Thanks

@@danielpineda3656 Not really. I'd say the tyres worried me more than the rim size, but it worked out fine. Look, it doesn't tip into the corner as nicely as my GSX-Rs used to, and braking is clearly not quite the same . But it never felt dangerous or unstable and it was a blast to take it out of its comfort zone. I have tested an XRX once and I can honestly say that I didn't feel much of a difference in on-road handling - at least not to my average skill level.

You have the XR version, wich is more suitable for this use. There's a wave of people buying a XC version and don't touching a piece a sand never ever, if you want to use the bike for road only, buy a XR version!

That is correct: the XR version is certainly slightly better for track day use, although still not quite in its element like a real sport bike would be. I test rode an XRx on a few occasions and to be honest I couldn't feel too much of a difference between that and the XCx in the twisties. But anyway, suitable or not; that was part of the fun for me - taking my XCx out of its comfort zone on a track day, and being surprised by it. And just for the record: I did take my XCx on plenty of gravel/mud/sand trips as well. We have some of the best adventure biking roads in the world here in South Africa after all.

Yes, the stock Bridgestone Battlewings. Not great off-road at all, but reasonable on-road. I replaced them shortly after this with Heidenau K60's, which are more 50/50 on/off-road.
