The first part of a multi-day ADV motorcycle trip through the Victorian High Country where I test the new off-road tyres both on and off road, get lost in the woods, and have plenty of near misses with the local fauna.
This part includes the Snowy River, Kosciusko and Alpine National Parks as well as McKillop's bridge.

It was a pleasure to join you on your exciting adventure. I did find it confusing though with the random animation of your maps without any indicators as to where you were/were going.

Great video editing. I have done the same ride to McKillops bridge twice and that drop down around those blind bends still has me nervous.

I'm glad you mentioned that, it always looks easier on the GoPro but in person those dropoffs really focus the mind!

That is such a great place to ride, but I am a biased Victorian. I totally agree re the Off Road versus Off Road Pro mode. I own a Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro too and had the same experience. This was a great video to watch. Thanks for sharing. 👍😁

Great video. Very nice bike, too, and the perfect countryside to ride it! I ride the Tiger 800 and am looking at the 900RP as my next bike. If we only had as much off-tarmac here in my part of Europe, too

Definitely recommend the 900 as a touring bike on road as well. Who knows, you might make it down to Morocco sometime!

@@australianadv Hi there, mate. Yes, that could be an option. I am German, but as I live in Denmark I´ll start exploring Sweden first, though. Plenty of gravel there. Once I have the 900 RP (with more suspension travel than my current Tiger) I might even dare the swedish TET (TransEuroTrail). But that will have to wait until next (european) summer. Safe riding to you, my friend. Wolfgang, a new subscriber.

I thought the difference with Offroad Pro mode is that it completely disables the ABS. Traction control can be disabled in all modes via the "bike setup" menu if you want to keep the ABS active. (If you want ABS and TC to both be off then switching modes is much easier/faster.)
@australianadv
@australianadv Год назад
It's typical complicated Triumph stuff. The options for TC and ABS are Road, Off-Road or Off. If you have the Rally PRO version of the bike: Off-Road Mode sets the ABS and TC to "Off-road" but you can configure either to "Off" in the home menu. Off-Road Pro Mode sets ABS and TC to "Off" but you can configure either to "Off-road" in the home menu. If you have the regularly Rally (non-PRO) version of the bike you can only choose Off-Road Mode and this sets the ABS and TC to "Off-road" which can't be changed to "Off". I was originally pretty happy with just using Off-Road Mode rather than Off-Road Pro, because the "Off-Road" level of TC was 10X better than default "Road", but after experimenting with Off-Road Pro mode it's definitely better still. I'll do a deeper dive into the menu at some stage, but I can say for sure that if you're hammering up a hill with ruts and corrugation the Off-Road mode makes the rear wheel bang and shudder and you lose traction, but as soon as you change to Off-Road Pro you get linear force and much better push.

Awesome. So you just used the Gaia app for planning and navigation? Does that require a subscription? Great work
@australianadv
@australianadv Год назад
You can get a long way without subscibing, I haven't subscribed. All the planning you can do on a computer without subscribing. The phone app is a bit stricter, so make sure you've got everything planned on the computer first.

Great video really enjoyed watching it. Envious of your choices over in the East. Good comments on the different off road modes, did you change your suspension settings when you hit the dirt? Recognised the squeaky rear break😄
@australianadv
@australianadv Год назад
Yes, I usually reduce the front compression and rebound damping from 8 to 15. Just makes for a better ride, smoother and stops the front end from being too skittish. I don't bother with the rear pre-load usually. Makes the bike a bit more wallowy and less flickable, so always set back to 8 once I'm back on tar.

loving the vids. i hope to upgrade to a 900 rally pro eventually. what sort of distance are you getting out of a tank?
@australianadv
@australianadv Год назад
I'm getting an easy 400km. A couple of examples: 1. Home to Cooma was 413km, mostly freeway speeds, had about 1/8th tank left. 2. Buchan to Swifts Creek to Dargo to Hotham to Bright, 350km total, about half of it on difficult dirt tracks through mountains, arrived at Bright with maybe 30-40km range left.
