Great vid. I just took my hardtop off today for the first time. Had a quick ride. Fun! Hoping it installs ok.

Thank Gary, yes British Leyland did a good job designing the hardtop. I do like the look of it with the top on as well.

Glad that it helped. The roll bar was manufactured by a guy named Francois Faucher in Quebec Canada. Unfortunately, he no longer makes them. I would have liked to get one as well for me TR250. Thanks for watching.

I have a hardtop for my 1976 TR-6. One year I was able to run the car until Dec. 15 because we didn't have any snow here in Central New Hampshire/ The hardtops are scarce. I was told that one was made for every 1,000 cars.

Looked like a straight forward install. Car looks great with the hard top on it!

Thanks!. If you happen to find a factory steel top for your car it can be fitted any time. The mounting kits are still available to buy. There are some aftermarket fiberglass tops available but in my opinion they don't function as well nor do they look as good as the factory top. Thanks for watching.

My personal opinion is that all British convertible sports cars look so much better with their hard top option fitted..........check out the Healey3000, E-Type roadster and even the little MG Midget with hard tops fitted.....they look so much better, especially when in "Rally" guise!

Cheftush- I’m curious to know if the convertible top must be removed when attaching the hardtop. I have seen pictures of another TR six is that still had the convertible top inside. Seemed a little odd to me since I believe you need the attachment holes for the hardtop to stay fixed.… Great video and thank you for posting this.

You can actually leave the convertible top and frame in the car while the hardtop is on...they actually made special boot cover from the factory that have a pocket in them to neatly stow the soft top. The only issue with leaving the soft top in, is that is takes up space behind the seats that can be used for more storage/luggage etc...The hard top only requires one of the fastening points that the soft top uses on the b post...I’m not sure how this is accomplished (as I always remove my soft top)...but you may be able to fit the hardtop bracket in behind it or remove two of the fasteners and spin the soft top bracket slightly out of the way. Edit, just checked the factory fitting instructions and the hardtop bracket is fitted over the top of the soft top bracket on the b post using a longer countersunk screw. It also notes that the rear rail of the soft top needs to be unbolted in order for the hardtop to be fitted.

Yes, they are getting pretty rare. And now if you find one, you need to make sure that the back glass is there and isn't cracked as it is no longer available. They are definately good for extending the season both in the fall and in the early Spring being North of Toronto. Thanks for watching.

Nice car and nicely done demo. So the TR6 has to be fitted from the factory with a hardtop? Any aftermarket options?

Just bought a '74 TR6 with factory hardtop. Top is not bolted down. Need to secure the top before transporting on trailer. What are the bolt sizes at front and rear? Will only temporarily need a few bolts for the transport. Thanks.

Found one in Brainerd MN with the hardtop and back glass, but I can't pay over 17k for a rough '74. lol

Great video. I have a factory hardtop that I was going to restore and install on my car and your video was perfect. I have decided to sell the hardtop and stick to what I have. I would like to know where you purchased you roll bars from? Thanks
@cheftush
@cheftush 9 лет назад
Hi Harold, the bars were custom made by a guy named Francois Faucher about 8 years ago...he made 1 run of about 25 bars I think. He doesn't make them anymore unfortunately.

Hi I like to know more about the roll hoop bar on your TR6, I have a 1969 TR6, and would like to get the same in mine. Thanks Eddie V.
@cheftush
@cheftush 7 лет назад
Eddiie Vaughn hi. Unfortunately, they are not available. They were custom made by a gentleman who did about 25 of them and stopped after that. They are quite nice and I would like another one as well for my TR250.

So what happened with the custom side plates that you showed but did not install? Does using them offset the alignment of the mounting bolts at the B pillar?
@cheftush
@cheftush 5 лет назад
Michael OHIO hi Michael. The designer of these plates now machines a slot in them so that they can mounted flush. I guess I could do the same with mine.

Where can I buy all the attaching bolts? Also, it looks like you only attach with two bolts in windshield and two bolts by rear side windows and nothing by the rear window Did I miss something???
@cheftush
@cheftush Год назад
There are two bolts at the rear of the top as well Tom. They utilize two of the same holes that the soft top uses for attachment. You could Try the Roadster Factory for the fastening kit.
@cheftush

Start watching at the 4:45 mark regarding the rear bolts.

Didn't know that you have to remove the softtop to install the hardtop .
@cheftush
@cheftush 5 лет назад
blackpool321 you don’t actually. I just prefer to remove it to give me more access and room behind the seats as I don’t have much with the roll bar installed. There is actually a factory cover for it that is a pretty rare item these days.
