Can't believe that - 774 views, and only 31 thumbs up? Thank you, Daniel, for a first rate review of the different types and sounds, and for your suggestions on the types of music that they work best with. As a trombone beginner, I found this very helpful, from start to finish; before this, I found the variety of mutes bewildering - now it's much more clear!

@@DanielKJohanssonTrombone - What I found most helpful was that you didn't just show us the different sounds that they make, but also covered how they feel to play, and what effects they have on intonation at different parts of the register. I haven't seen any other mutes review which went into detail on that, and most of them were videoed by dealers who naturally want to push the particular mutes that they sell, rather than give you an unbiased opinion. With best regards, Jack

East of the sun! Great video! Nice JJ Johnson image on wall! Jor-Ral harmon with stem sounds lovely.

I keep a basic set of Humes Berg mutes...cup, straight, bucket and solotone plus I have one of their plungers. I have a Wick cup, a JoRal copper straight and a JoRal bucket....which I use in either a modern setting or classically. On my want list is a pixie, and a silent brass. I have a Wick practice mute. My favourite of the bunch is the JoRal straight and have considered getting a brass straight for mild tonal difference to better match the lead I usually play with in a Modern setting.

Hi, Daniel, your tone and note-slotting are both very nice. Your mouthpiece appears to be quite deep. What make and model mouthpiece do you play?

Thank you for the kind words! It's a Bach "Megatone" 7C. Kind of a weird combination with my Martin Committee, but I love it!
