When you said "Scale problem", my first thought was how teeny tiny Marines in Starcraft can shoot down a *Battlecruiser;* which, for some reason, appears miniscule on the map compared to what it _should_ be. But I guess that's an entirely different discussion. As for the topic at hand, though... The RTS you _might_ have been thinking of which had "squads" of soldiers and would lose some as it took damage was Halo Wars. Various infantry units would come out as a "squad" and members could be picked off as it took damage. For the Covenant, for example, a basic infantry unit was an Elite with about 3 to 5 Grunts (depending on upgrades and special abilities). And depending on which units were still alive, it could do different things. The Elite generally had higher combat ability and better weapons. If the squad lost a grunt or two, no biggie. But if the Elite got picked off, the remaining Grunts would panic and lose cohesion, taking a massive drop in combat skill. By contrast, the Human Marine equivalent squad was a lot more "even" in terms of individual capacity. Instead of being strongly focused on one leader with a bunch of fodder, there was a sergeant with _slightly_ higher combat capability than the other members, but picking off individuals in the group didn't cause the massive drop in output since they'd pretty well reorganize themselves to deal with lost members. Other teams, like Covenant Jackal Snipers, came in smaller groups of 2-3, while Hunters, for lore reasons, were *always* produced in pairs and if one was taken out, the other would go berserk and mostly abandon long-ranged attack and go charging in for melee. I _also_ recall *very* long ago (like, decades) I played a little web-based fire-team shooting game with a very interesting mechanic for determining whether you were still "in the game". You had a squad of four as a fire-team, and you were supposed to be "one of those four", but you had no idea which one. It played like a turn-based strategy, but if one of your guys got killed, it would roll a random chance for it to have been "you" that got killed. So first death, you have a 25% to lose and get booted from the match. Second death, and it's a 33.33% chance. Third, and it's a 50% chance. And by that point, if you're still alive, you know for certain which dude you were the whole time. Interesting thing that just floated to the top of my memory for some reason when I was watching. But anyway, from what you were describing, picking the "right genre" for the story you want to tell... who says it has to stick with just _one?_ Wouldn't it be interesting to *start* playing the game as a FPS as a member of a fire-team. But, eventually, you get promoted and now you're leading a team in a more strategic kind of fight; you've got four guys like what I described above and any time one of them gets killed, it's a chance it was you. You've "zoomed out" a little bit. A few more objectives and promotions, and now you're into the realm of small-scale tactical battles like what we'd expect from typical RTS fare. Now you, yourself, probably aren't even _on_ the battlefield; you're in a command building. Next step, it becomes something more akin to Total War, which you describe as being a different sort of genre. The "resource collection" and "military combat" are separated into entirely different modules as it becomes more like a town management sim with battlefield management every now and then. Though, one change I'd make would be to not conduct battles in the manner of directing each individual unit, as is still common with even a game like Total War. Instead, you're in the position of a General or a Strategist deciding on more general troop movements. Or maybe not even that far up the command tree. Maybe you have a number of "RTS modules" positioned under you, but you don't directly micro-manage the individual military units. Instead, you give more general orders concerning goals, targets, operations, etc. And then it's up to the "boots on the ground" to carry them out. And you, yourself, must also contend with your own orders from above and manage supplies and distribution. Do you focus your supply lines on a critical area of defense, but risk another area being weakened? Or do you supply all areas evenly at the risk of a major defense point being compromised? As you "zoom out" more and more by getting promoted, you get further and further from the actual battlefield and it's less and less like an action game and more and more like a Sim or City Management game. And, if done well, you'd never really be able to tell any "specific" point where it drastically shifted genre. You're in the thick of it spraying bullets at the start, and by the end you're carefully and strategically managing resources and army-wide morale and thinking of soldiers not as individual people, but as "resources"... and you have no idea where you made the transition. *That's* the kind of game _I'd_ like to see.

Where we are in Oregon it is in the mid 70s. One has to ask whether these weather stations are on asphalt tarmacs. Try this out... take a temp measurement on an asphalt road and then step onto a green lawn 10-20 ft away and measure. These climate disaster promoters have been caught "extrapolating" temps for stations that aren't working or are no longer there. They are not worthy of my trust.
