Trout are so beautiful I love the way they look and I feel so outdoorsy when you go out and fish them usually in the woods somewhere it’s most peaceful kind of fishing to me I love doing it I do it on my channel all the time probably one of my favourites even though bass just fight like hell I like fishing trout just as much or more😊

I agree, the places you fish for trout are normally just stunning. I have had loads of fun with Bass too though I spent a bit of time living in South Korea and fished for bass a lot. Fun when you hook them, especially on the surface.

Nice , went to the OPST heads for my two handed rods some years ago and find I like Skagit lines better then Scandi it seems more versatile add a float tip to a Skagit almost a scandi . I use both . also have a 6wt single hand Skagit works really good . Thanks for the video

I have only really used skagit lines but definitely enjoy them. Have one for each of my rods.

Thank you for the informative and well done video. Have watched 3x now. Have purchased a 3wt trout Spey rod and will be taking it out shortly to practice casting. Interested in that 5 wt switch you used for larger streamers.

It's a fun way to fish. Let me know how you get on. I did well with that 5wt on the bigger rivers but it can be a bit much unless it's a really decent river. Now using a 4wt.

Hi, that last fish you hooked was a beauty, those pools you were fishing do produce some very nice fish but you don’t have them to yourself for very long! I tend to leave them to those who fish for kai moana. The huge improvements in rods and lines has changed the way we fish these days. In the “Old Days” we had big number 8 or 10 rods to fish the Tongariro, now I just use two of my #6 rods rigged up for nymphing and for wet fly fishing; that way I can nymph up river change to the swing rod and fish down river and cover all the spots. Your demonstrations of casting were pretty good and like everybody you will improve. The surprising thing you get on the swing is when you lift the rod at the end of the swing only to find that it has a huge fish on the end of the line! Cheers mate. Harera

Thanka Piere, yes I certainly am happy we can now fish easily with 6wt rods. So much more enjoyable. I have been enjoying nymphing up and swinging back but I don't like carrying two rods and in F&G areas your aren't allowed 2 rigged rods anyway so I just throw in a reel with the skagit setup and I am good to go. Tight lines.

Go for the Composite Developments TryCD combination. 6wt, 8wt, chuck in the one foot extender and the Spey handle attachment and you have all options covered for a days fishing without having to carry two rods.

It is indeed the Traper ghost reel. Barrie from I Love Fly Fishing sells them at www.iloveflyfishing.kiwi if you have trouble with website just give him a call. Its best on a computer not a phone or tablet. We know the website is not great and that will be sorted soon.

Any recommendations on rod or size and wt of rod for a river like you are fishing above on Trout Spey? Thanks for video

For single handed on this size river I think a 9ft 6wt is a great option that can do both nymph and cast skagit lines. If you want double handed you can go lighter because the numbering is actually a bit different on them. Anything from a 11ft 3wt to the 11ft 5wt I used will work with switch/microskagit rods. Personally I like the OPST micro skagit rods, they are light and powerful. Saying that I have not used many other micro skagit/switch rods. The entry level one I use in the video works great too, it's just heavier and a bit slower. That's my personal rod I fish with most and like it. Hope that helps.
