Community died the day Troy left the show. Don't get me wrong. The rest of season 5 is amazing and season 6 is a great spin off with half of the cast plus some great additions, but Troy really did bring something to the table and boy was he missed
Until this video, I had not realised how much Troy grows between his two goodbyes, but by putting it side by side, you can really tell on e is just plain sad, and the other is very bittersweet, and actually kinda hopeful, as Troy and the rest of the group have now matured emotionally
missed opportunity starting the comp with the scene where he talks about crying when "come sail away" comes on. But still a great comp. I guess I kind of forgot that he said goodbye to everyone twice in his run.... Pierce didn't even get a single goodbye. I don't think Shirley did either iirc
Troy’s the goodest boy. A shame that so much happens with his character during the gas leak. Having S4 be comfortable to watch would have made Donald’s send-off a bit easier, I think, but I suppose it’s all the more bittersweet.
I miss the Pierce from the first scene. He was an insensitive dick, but he had his moments of humanity and he wasn't a pure villain, just a sad old man that felt like the world was abandoning him and wanted to fit in. They made him a parody of himself in later seasons, thanks Dan Harmon.
I feel like at least some of that comes from Chevy's actual behavior on set. I agree that pierce was originally a better character but it's hard for me to like him regardless knowing some of the shit he was saying between takes and I'm sure that goes double for the people who actually had to work with him, if that makes sense.
@@puff6413 on a guess? The drastic drop in quality in the following seasons without Troy. The emotional linchpin in the group left a vacuum that no one could properly fill. Abed took on a stronger focus as a foil to Jeff, and without Troy to complement him, was written to rely on 4th wall innuendos and a dead end arc of finality. Frankie and Elroy were fine characters in their own right, but definitely didn't charisma or investment of the loss of Troy or Shirley, leading to a mediocre (in my opinion) series finale, just kind of ending on a meh note of bland and relatively recycled sentiment
He was captured by pirates. If you watch season 5, episode 6 (the one after Troy left), at the end of the episode, Professor Hickey is at his house watching TV. If you pause it, you'll see a lower third crawl on his TV that reads, *"LaVar Burton and non-celebrity friend were captured by pirates."* I'd seen that episode at least 10 times and never noticed it until I had to pause to go do something else. When I came back, that's when I saw it and cracked up.
This is going to sound hella cheesy, but this compilation helped me in a way. I always thought to be a hero you had to do something super daring or badass. But this kind of showed that being a hero can be as simple as standing up for your friends, yourself, or just having plain integrity. Good video! Def helped me realize the true hero is within me, no matter how small the challenge.
its about thinking about everyone elses needs , its about SERVING, giving support, sacrificing, being grateful, on the down side, these people can be greatly abused and manipulated, because theyre just like childs even when they 60, therefore emotional and intelectual maturity are BOTH needed, to sail tru life, just helping those worthy, and discarding the rotten ones
Him showing up to sing "Somewhere Out There" with Abed to the mouse in S1 should be in here for sure. One of the first indicators of Troy and Abed's epic bromance
I had this huge crush on Troy when I first watched Community and I always expected to find someone as adorable as him, which I thought was impossible since Troy's basically a puppy and few people have that kind of pure heart nowadays. I'm glad my bf is just as sweet, I got really lucky.
If anything I wished they explored the Troy Annie relationship more. I’m happy with them as friends and don’t mind them not including much romance. But I was kinda disappointed at how quickly and anticlimacticly that whole plot line fizzled out.
Lol oh wow yeah I keep thinking that Zombie episode was just a one off wacky episode but then I remember that was a legit thing and Troy actually saved everyone at greendale maybe even the world.
i love how abed impacted troy's character development aaaa:") like in the beginning he's the stereotypical dumb jock, but then we see how he's actually kind of a geek and likes dress up and shit like it's so amazing he's feeling more comfortable to be a weirdo🥰
this is the most beautiful thing. idk if ppl remember but there was a campaign to have donald glover play the next spiderman before andrew garfield got it and the vitriolic reaction of certain fans at the idea of a black spiderman was deeply impactful on donald. there's an interview of him commenting on it. karma comes around tho. I heard through the grapevine that Miles Morales' design was based on Donald and that's the best spiderman movie ever made.
I hope things work out for him in the MCU eventually. He'd be perfect for the role as Miles. And no, I'm not just saying that because he's black, but he's good at acting in the position of the protag. You could argue he was the protagonist of Community.
wow when peirce's attorney was telling Troy about having the heart of hero you can see an old man walking in the back of the frame that resembles Pierce but it's hard to tell
Holy shit, that double-good-bye montage brought tears to my eyes. He was one hell of a hero when the time called for it, I just never saw it before. Thanks for showing this side of Troy. Great video. Peace.
The line “never change, or do I can’t tell you what to do” I really think is one of his most genuine lines and I love it so much because of all the different things you can try and think of why he said it
i love troy so much i always get so happy when he comes on screen bc i know he's gonna say/do something amazing. donald glover was also like the perfect guy for this show cuz he's the perfect troy barnes and is one of the best actors on this show - he knows exactly how to deliver his lines, the tone, facial expression, rhythm, everything. and he's extremely hot
Is it dumb that Troy inspired me? when I heard Pierce's last messege to Troy, I just learned you dont have to be a hero to have the heart of one. To be brave, passionate and selfless
I mean Season 1 (which I'm pretty sure this is from) is from like 2009 and the first Avengers was 2012. Sure he was in stuff before that, but his biggest stuff was romcoms that it would make sense that Troy hadn't seen yet
I think it's really depressing Troy's arc ended with being captured by pirates, with no closure on whether or not he made it out. Dude deserved so much better than that.
I really love the way you edited this, instead of just doing it in chronological order there's the rising action stuff at the front, and it follows the story beats all the way to the epic conclusions/goodbyes. I'm on season 5 of community and I miss troy 😢
"No. Take him to the police. He MURDERED someone. Take him to jail. You guys are weird." Troys best line. Also that hug with Abed at the end didnt get any easier to watch, did it? Jesus! I knew there was a reason i avoided certain scenes. My emotions! My emotions!!
