In this video we check out a Troy-Bilt Model 020296 pressure washer that was locked up and leaking water from the pump. We end up installing a new aftermarket pump to solve the problem. Here is a link to the pump I used. amzn.to/371xbzY
UPDATE:1 year and still cranks within the first 2-3 pulls. Probably will buy another when this one finally does bite the dust ru-vid.comUgkx43QMbQqu67IZadu9ou8Sg1BdrunMRNqX . No issues at all. Very happy with it.UPDATE: After 6 months of use and over 70 uses I would still highly recommend this pressure washer. It does vibrate a decent amount but never had it “walk” like others have mentioned. No oil leaks, still seems to run like the day I bought it. Still cranks within 2-3 pulls every time. Very happy with my purchase!Have used it about a dozen times now. Plenty of power, cranks up on 1-2 pulls every time. My only complaint would be I wish it was a little taller to make it easier to walk with it (hits my ankles a lot) and that the two hose connections were a little further apart but it hasn’t caused me any issues. Seems to run a good 1-1/2-2 hrs on a full tank, overall a well built machine and definitely worth the money in my opinion.
Dude that was a perfect video. No extra fluff. Just the right stuff for what I needed. I have the exact model that is leaking and stopped pressurizing. We'll see what I find. Thanks
I picked up one of these washers for $40 with the same issue. Pulled the pump, found zero oil gear oil. Add oil, cranked it by hand, reassembled, and works like a champ again. If I were a betting man I’d bet your would of started working too.
Great video, I learned allot from you, I just got a pressure washer my self, was $25 bucks and it’s really clean with a bad pump, I think I can fix it using your video, thanks allot I subscribed, my pressure washer is different so I will make a video for my channel fixing mine
Strong work sir. I’m working on a washer for a customer right now. Would be nice to fix it in-house, rather than a specialist, after I go over the engine.
I have a Troy bilt pressure washer I used the previous fall. Put it away for the winter, wouldn’t start. Cleaned out the carb and it started, only to find out the manifold was cracked. Replaced the pump and manifold, and works like new! Recommend running these out of gas whenever you use them.
The pumps require Pump Saver, from Briggs & Stratton, to condition the seals, and antifreeze the pump for winter. Any water left in the pump during freezing conditions will crack the pump manifold.
Turned out it just needed the carb cleaned up and the 3 pistons we’re firing perfect underneath after I removed the pressure pump (no flow). Bought a new one for $62, just got it on yesterday. Runs perfect and works perfect 🤘🏼
Appears all I need is a new seal on top of the pump. It is leaking oil, but I can’t find it anywhere. Everything is still working fine, just left with an oil spot on the ground after using.
I bought same model years ago, used it a few times, loaned it out a few times, pump was cracked, I always kept it indoors, in the winter, so eventually got a new pump it’s been setting for so long , I’m tinkering with it now, water doesn’t seem to be flowing into the pump and out the wand, can seem to un loosen the hose from the wand..lol I’ll figure it out
I have a Troy bilt. 2700 given to me. Someone broke a piece off the water replacement head. Which I’m going to replace. I can’t connect the won hose. Should I just replace the whole pump?
Yea, when water gets in there, it locks up. If you hold the trigger when you try to start it, a lot of times it will still work. I tried rebuilding mine. Probably easier to just buy a new one.
I have a question. The plug in back of oil filter that keeps gas from running out in the filter is missing and leaking gas threw. Can I buy that plug. Pressure washer is not looked up. Would that leak keep engine from firing? That plug looks like it keeps gas in carburetor. I’m a woman and I need help. I enjoy having knowledge to do my repairs.
That's right,, put the girls to work and get busy on that car !!! ;) thatnks for the vid,, different model Troy Bilt, but that pump looks real similar to my model .
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07N1V5PZ4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 , It seems to work fine. The only thing with this machine is that the hoses come out the opposite side which is no big deal to me.
Great job. By the way, get yourself a surface cleaner to attach to your pressure washer. It will take you about a third of the time to clean your driveway. You will thank me.
I have a washer that belongs to a friend. The pump oil looks like sludge. Where do I get the seals that go around the pump rods? I assume that the sludge means that there is water getting into the pump. will the seals stop the water from getting into the pump? By the way the washer is the same one that is in the video.
I'm curious about the little raised ridge area on the side of the crankshaft of your engine (you can see it at 9:34). I have a very similar model of pressure washer (020344) and the crankshaft doesn't have the little raised ridge coming out of the side of it, instead, there's a little groove there. So I'm not getting much pressure at all… But when I look up that crankshaft part online, it looks like there's a groove, not a raised ridge. So I'm not sure if there's a little metal piece that supposed to sit in the groove that's missing, or if I'm missing something else? Hope that's understandable. Anyone have any ideas?
Could have mounted the new pump rotated 180 degrees to match old - foot spacing will line up, have done it many times, but won't hurt anything that way as long as the hoses can connect... And you are absolutely correct. It is like heroin LOL, once you start you're doomed!
Are you deranged? I am a woman contractor who has owned one these troy built pws with a Honda engine for about 12 years.... took it in after it started leaking oil and they said the pump needs to be replaced.... $500 worth of repair. I think I can do this more economically with the help of one of these RU-vid videos. And guess what? I am a lifelong Democrat. How in hell you feel that it's appropriate to inject political preference into these comments is beyond stupid.
