I think you hit the nail on the head about how it really is the same in both the U.S. and overseas but the difference is the women over there being more straightforward about it all. I also think they definitely play their traditional roles much more than women in the U.S. I've dated women in the east, and there is a very good understanding about roles and what is what. She expects you to handle your responsibilities (Pay the bills, have funds available for groceries, provide and protect) as a man.
