True Facts: Leafhoppers and Friends 

RIP Dr. Andreas Kay. He was a macro photographer and cited in many of the clips included here. He passed away October 2019 due to complications after removal of a brain tumor.

1:32 Woah!! That thing moved side to side in order to gauge the distance -- like owls do! I know it's instinctive, not conscious, but it's amazing to think that a tiny insect like that could have a neurology complex enough to judge distance that way and jump with the right amount of force to hit the target!

1:01 I will never forget when I saw this exact insect for the first time. I was probably about 8, going for a hike in a big national park that was basically just a huge forest and I saw these funny looking insects that were as I described it, "headbanging their mohawks" and at first I only saw a few of them in a low branch but as my eyes looked up THE ENTIRE TREE was covered in them and it was a big tree, probably at least 45 feet tall. And the tree leaned over the path and had branches that locked with another tree AND IT WAS COVERED TOO. Eventually I looked around we were surrounded by these things, rocking and rolling something fierce. And it was so funny and cool and crazy to see these insects that I thought were headbanging just everywhere. I have no idea what they were doing but I have to assume they were opening some sort of rock and roll insect hall of fame and I was lucky enough to get to watch.

Plant hoppers would make cool bosses, like each one has different “hats” so there is a lot of variety. Seriously, I want a game we’re these plant hoppers, or something based off plant hoppers, are the bosses or at the very least one. Sure a scorpion boss is cool, but does it have a cool hat? Also female trilobite Beatles, those are wicked.
