Sadly, these kind of conversations happen all the time! Technicians getting stuck on the phone with people that have never even been to the hospital are also a pretty solid reason why animal ER clinics have the wait times that they do... Poor Technician Tom. Thankfully, he has people skills.

You would be amazed how common customers like this are. Most of my friends work customer facing jobs in some capacity or another and you hear about at least one person similar to this a week from each of them.

Reminds me of when I was working in food service and we were serving pasta and marinara sauce. One of the guests said they were allergic to the garlic in the sauce and asked for ketchup as a substitute. Ketchup has garlic in it.

In my college days one customer drove me nuts. She'd ask for "one coffee two thirds full". Years later, when I grabbed a cup at a small donut shop, I understood exactly why she asked for that when my take out cup was so full part of it spilled in my lap 😮

had the same thing happen at McDonalds with someone "Allergic" to onions who wanted a Bigmac. Bigmac sauce contains onions. 😂

Was a telephone receptionist in a multiple opthalmologist practice. They specialized in single stitch cataract surgery and RK, the predecessor of LASIK. The cataract patients weren't a problem, but the RK prospective patients were like Tom's caller. "I'm calling to have my eyes done." "You're calling to have what done to your eyes?" "The surgery". "Radial Keratotomy or Single Stitch Cataract"? "The nearsightedness surgery" Tell 'em financing was offered as not many insurance companies cover the procedure, "Well I guess that's just rich peoples' surgery then." On seminar night, "If it's so great, why doesn't she have it?". I was probationary as an employee and can't wear contacts, and my colleague ended up over corrected and needed them for close up vision (they were probably horrified to see none of the nurses or physicians had it from the O R table, when it was too late to back out). These patients were Karen before there was Karen.

Oh my God, r the same clients calling you and then our pet hospital??? Take way to many of these like calls working up front. Please, I except all prayers from everyone that I don't crack one day!! Thank u for understanding all us whom deal with this everyday....😂

When i was taking my dog in for an emergency, phone calls were happening in the car while driving, not waiting around at home belittling the staff.

@RPhillip yeah, I had an emergency run for my cat, they got hit by a car and took them 3 days to get home with a dislocated hip. I searched for number, got my husband to call them, and then I searched where we were going as we were getting into the car. Edit, when searching for places for number, Google will also ask if you want directions etc
