Experience the incredible sound of 864,000 pounds of thrust, 2.18 miles from launch pad 0A! The Northrop Grumman Antares 230 rocket lifted over 7500 pounds of cargo into orbit on a journey to the ISS.
The microphone was placed about 100 feet away from us to reduce the sound of the crowd and maximize the sound of the rocket. Live stream audio courtesy of NASA TV.
This was filmed with a rental video camera (no practice beforehand). Apologies for the unsteady panning and focus issues. Lesson learned: a DSLR camera with a telephoto lens is far superior! See our video of Delta IV Heavy: • {TrueSound}™ Thunderin...
Filmed from the old NASA ferry dock (Pierce Taylor Road). BJG 04/17/19
This was an all-day trip from Charlottesville (on a week day!). Special thanks to fellow UVA students Caroline, Jack, and Nicholas.
