I hear ya! I’m in luck where I live there is one service station that carries 91 premium ethanol free gas. Been putting it in everything I run 2 and 4 stroke for the past 2-3 since they first opened. They could fix all our fuel problems by just getting rid of ethanol blended fuel e10 and so on , but that most likely will never happen. I see at some pumps for some newer hybrid cars and what not they have a e15 blend. A bunch of government regulated bull. I still use and have cans with vents in them and a couple no spill cans those aren’t bad cans actually, but I refuse to buy any of the other messed up big box store cheap gov cans.

I recommended Trufuel to my hometown volunteer fire department for ventilation chainsaw. No stalle gas problems and no chance of straight gassing by grabbing wrong can. Most importantly, it starts easily and runs better when needed.

Just a quick story. I have a small 2-stroke water pump that I bought about 12yrs ago when I planted a cypress tree by my livestock tank. Watered it the first two years pretty good and put the pump away. Well with the drought/heat wave we're in now that tree was lookin pretty rough so I pulled out the pump and in my former idiocy I had left about 1/2 tank of tru-fuel in it. Fully expecting it to be a mess I gave it a couple pulls anyway. 3rd pull it fired up and purred like a kitten. I was shocked. Great product for storage! Quick aside, I've learned so much from you through the years man. Just wanted to say Thank You!

Here in Holland we have "Aspen" fuel to use in 2 and 4 cycle small engines. When you work professionally with these type of machines you must use this fuel because it is less pollutant for your self and the enviroment also. Besides that you can store it for a couple of years without the risk of loosing quality. It is not cheap (4-5 times the price of the fuel you use in your car), but it is much better for your self and your machine.

I gave it a try and never went back to premix pumpgas. The weedeater runs like it is brand new again. Trufuel cost about 3.99 a can here. Well worth the money, and i will stick with it!

Awesome product. I use it in my chain saws and trimmers that I don't use everyday. I have never had an issue with cranking or leaks in these units. I have had issues with the everyday used trimmers leaking that I run regular fuel through. Primer bulbs dry out and crack mostly. I would love to be able to keep it in all my equipment but I don't like carrying all the small cans. Maybe one day they will offer 2.5 gallon cans for us commercial guys :) Congratulations on your new sponsor Donny :)

I have been using all 3 types of Tru-Fuel for the past 4 years. I really does work well. For a homeowner, the price isn't really too bad. For commercial use, it is much too expensive. It's hard to justify $20+ dollars per gallon for fuel.

Ok. I've a Rancher 55 saw. Haven't touched it in years. I dumped out old fuel, and let it dry out. I put halve can of 50:1 TruFuel in and after a few hard pulls...got nothing. Duh, stop was on. Pulled choke out, gave 5 pulls, got a kick, pushed in choke and it started! I cut some logs. Sold me on it! Thanks Dony!

Good Video Don My dad ( small engine mechanic) explained it to me like this. Ethanol absorbs moisture (water) you put oil in Ethanol based gas and expect it to lubricate a 2 cycle Engine. Water and oil do not mix well. scoring cylinder walls and Piston rings. Pay for Ethanol free gas. From the Pump or can or you can repair/ replace equipment regularly. We Been using can fuel for a few years now with very good results. True fuel is one of the best.

A much cheaper option is if you have a local airport you can purchase LL100 AvGas. Last time I got some it was $4.65 a gallon but it is 100 octane and contains no ethanol. Mix with your favorite oil ( I use Klotz R50) and you're good to go. I haven't even had to change a spark plug in 7 years.

Love this stuff! Here in Ontario, you can get larger cans at most small engine dealers. Like some have said, this stuff actually makes your equipment run better. I have a Poulan leaf blower that was running sluggish. I suspect it was from years of running Esso "crappy" gas. I switched to the Trufuel 40:1 and it has gradually improved to the point it now runs perfect like it did on the first day!

From what I understand, the main problem with ethanol is that it absorbs water. However, it does NOT gum up your carburetor. The thing that does that is benzine. There are lots of videos that demonstrate how to remove ethanol from regular gasoline, but these methods do not remove benzine. (which is also a carcinogen!) The TruFuel, and its competitors do not contain benzine, but are almost all parafins - the good stuff. That alone make for a good reason to buy these special fuels.

I picked up a couple cans of STIHL Moro fuel for my son and it cost me almost $10 per can. That is $40 a gallon where I live and we have several gas stations here they sell fuel without ethanol for less the $3.00 per gallon. I know its a balance and that why I watch Dons Channel, they don't come more level headed the him.

My small engine carb equipment gave me problems last year, No fuel on /off valve between tank and carb. Despite my best efforts I could not start the engines. My Husky ride on now has a fuel line valve which I turn off and let the engine use the fuel to run the carb dry. I will check for TRUFUEL here and if available will get some. Thanks for your share.

My local Ariens dealer recommended that I use this on my snowblower when I put it away for the spring. Given that I only put in a small amount and then run it dry before storing, the price is not an issue. Cost wise, It far beats having to replace the seals in the carb due to the ethanol problems.

I like Stihl Motomix for the 2 cycles but use the True Fuel 4 cycle fuel for snowblowers and lawnmowers at seasons end. VP also makes good product. These can be bought in gallon sizes also. Fuel in a can is expensive but having the equipment start right up without repair is worth it. I find that at summers end and going into the fall I can buy this type of fuel in a can for close out prices of about $2.00 USD at Walmarts, slightly more at hardware stores. That is when I stock up. I always recommend that others use these canned fuels, often Trufuel by name because it is so readily available.

I always mix my own fuel, but when it comes to the last trim of the season or the last tree I'm going to cut up I use trufuel. Just less of a hassle than trying to run the saw or trimmer out of fuel. Plus it's ready in the spring. It's good stuff. It's just too expensive for me to use it all the time.

I keep a can in my chainsaw carrying case because I very rarely use my chainsaw. Its worth it if you don't use the equipment much. But for my grass trimmer, lawn mower and blower I buy 93 octane gas at the pump, mix it with oil @ 45:1 and then mix it with Stabil. I find that for equipment that I use a lot, mixing it myself is much cheaper and I have had zero fuel/carb issues or starting issues after winter storage.

I just started using it this year, seems to work just fine, but with the mowing season coming up I'll be mixing up fuel again the old way. Its nice in the off-season though that way if you forget to run the equipment out of fuel it won't be a huge issue come next season. This stuff works very well, and its nice to just dump it in and go.

I used this once when I ran out of fuel away from home with my snowblower. The cans should have an expiration date. The cans I had made the engine run terrible and I believe it was due to the fact it was old. It had quite a lot of dust on the container probably due to the price. I had to empty the tank and put in my ethanol free fuel and it ran fine. I'm not saying its bad stuff but I haven't had a good experience with it. The price is to much for everyday use but its would be great for something you don't use often. If I ever run out again however I will make sure the can I pick look new off the shelf.

mmz77 No, only their top V-Power; regular and intermediate have 10% and 5% respectively. The ethanol % is usually printed on the side or front of the pump. This is in Eastern Canada, not sure if it is the same in the US or elsewhere. I'd suggest you check out pure-gas.org to find ethanol free fuel.

Most, a vast majority of home owners, would use less than 2 cans of this stuff a year. Home Depot PowerFuel 50:1 is $5 per can, TruFuel 50:1 is $6 per can near me. So that's only $10 to $12 for an entire years worth of fuel, for the average home owner that uses 2 cans or less per year. If you mix it yourself, the cost is $3 for a gallon of 91 octane fuel, $2 for 2.6 ounces of 2 cycle oil, and $1 for a squirt of fuel stabilizer. So mixing a gallon yourself cost $6. Congratulations, you just saved $4 to $6 by mixing it yourself. The Premix fuel is SUPERIOR to mix it yourself gasoline, so you saved about $5 to run a fuel that goes bad in 90 days, really bad in 6 months, and terrible bad in 1 year. Meanwhile TruFuel is good for 2 years once opened or 5 years in a sealed can. For the average light use homeowner, it not only makes sense, but you'd be an idiot to mix it yourself.

To cut costs run your last tank of fuel with the trufuel at the end of the season. Then you can start the new season without having to service the fuel system of your equipment. Or consider building a ethanol separator and adding octane boost to your fuel.
@heystarfish100
@heystarfish100 8 лет назад
I run the Stihl premix oil with regular unleaded fuel with ethanol during the season. When the season ends I run the engine dry then fill to 1/2 tank with TRUFUEL, start, shutdown and store for winter. This method is economical and the TRUFUEL in the fuel system is a better protectant than having it be dry. A dry fuel system is subject to the seal and diaphragm damage from the ethanol vapors left behind. Spring start-up is smooth thanks to the TRUFUEL. Not a paid endorsement nor have I received anything free for my recommendation.

I've ran Shell Canada V-power (no ethanol) in my Briggs lawnmower and snowblower for 7 years now, sometimes forgetting to drain it at end of season. They both start on the first pull every time. Unfortunately, the Turdeau Liberal regime now mandates all fuel to have ethanol in it, because we need that to improve the weather in Canada, apparently.

I've tried that stuff, I did like it because I despise mixing gas and I don't use my two cycle equipment very often. But then I commented on one of your videos 4-6 months ago asking if you have heard of it and if you use it, someone commented back and said it has ethanol in it so it kind of scared me off of it, but now since you made this video I'm going to definitely use it again. I like the idea of people commenting to other people on your videos but only if they know the facts about the topic you need help with.

Most people miss the whole point of using "canned gas". It would only be used by someone who uses their equipment occasionally, as it would be prohibitively expensive if you were to use it a lot. No worries about draining equipment, just leave it in there until you need it again. That's actually what Donny said anyway. Now I bought a new Husqvarna chainsaw back in the spring, along with 3 cans of 50:1 fuel, to get the 3 year warranty. I can use any 50:1 fuel mix after and it won't void said warranty (however, we all know that getting the warranty to cover 2-cycle engine failures is a crap-shoot anyway). When I run out of the Husqvarna fuel (probably take me a year), I'll get the Tru-fuel, as it's sold in our local Canadian Tire for $2 cheaper than the Husqvarna stuff. So thanks Donny as I was wondering about Tru-fuel and how well it stood up to use.

@dagrote

+donyboy73 Colin: I have a question about the ethanol thing. Does ethanol cause significant damage as soon as you put it in no matter how quickly you use it, or does it cause damage only after it's been allowed to age for a while in the system? I've never been sure about that. I'm asking because I go through about a gallon a week in high season, so the premixed stuff get to be very expensive. I mix my own, but that means ethanol gas does sit in my machines for a while -- maybe a week -- until it's used up and replaced by fresh gas. What do you think?
@colinp2528
@colinp2528 8 лет назад
+Dale Grote I would think that the issues with ethanol is in storage, so if you go through a gallon a week, then e-fuel should be fine. However, you should be using the best gas you can buy (high octane) and the best oil for the fuel mix. Now as far as warranty is concerned, if your equipment has engine damage, then the manufacturer will try every trick in the book not to cover it, blaming it on the fuel, and if it's got ethanol, then they'll be sure to blame that. So keep that in mind. If a person only uses a gallon or so a year in their saw, then 'canned gas" is the safe ticket.

If your worried about the alcohol in the pump gas then simply remove it. There are a number of videos that will show you how. I have done it using 5 gallons of gas at a time. It's easy and you also have ethanol on hand if you need it. The simple thing to do is simply run your equipment dry at the end of the season.

I bought two chainsaws on separate occasions both ran poorly and had tru fuel in the tanks. Drained the tru fuel and replaced with vp bot saws ran like scalded dogs. Have a honda 4 stroke weed eater used tru fuel 4 cycle ran like cr ap drained used vap like a new machine. i recommend vp they have been manufacturing racing fuel for years, fuel is there business.

I use standard grade 87 octane, 10% ethanol in my snowblower and lawnmower and have never had a gasoline related issue. I drain the tank and the carb at the end of the season and make sure my gas is fresh. I also mix in a little small engine fuel conditioner although it probably isn't needed.

I left my old motorbike in the shed for 10 years as i could not afford to use it, it still had petrol in the tank and after a plug clean it started fine, just like it used to. I think the lack of ethernol in uk petrol made it last, ethernol is evil stuff.

What people do not understand is, Regardless of ethanol, Gas is not all the same. Pump gas is meant for cars! NOT FOR SMALL, high RPM engines. That’s why AVGAS is formulated differently than pump gas. Racing gas is different!!

If you buy synthetic 2stroke oil and add stabilizer and buy high octane gas it will still be around $3.75 gallon cheaper in long run to buy premix true fuel because of the consistency it has

I think if I every bought gas generator for use during power outages, I would have this on hand and never use pump gas that degraded so quickly. After all, what is the point of an alternate electrical source if it will not start because of old fuel?

I know this is old thread. I recently sold a an extra MS 170 that was never used. Buyer's first Stihl saw. I strongly recommended Trufuel or Stihl Motomix . I use it to to store all of my OPE. BTW prices of Trufuel and saws and all equipment has really jumped. Ouch

It's hard to find real information about fuel and ethanol, but I have a personal theory I've seen possibly supported (although I can't find a real source at this point, sorry) by other postings. Ethanol actually attracts moisture out of the air, so when you have a gas that's 10% ethanol not only is it not fully a petroleum based product and not optimal for lawn equipment OR cars, but it also draws moisture out of the air. It's basically putting water in your gas a little at a time all the time.

I do like the idea of not leaving the engine dry during storage. This way I can just dump the old fuel gas up start it and get the engine warm. Turn it off and store it. Does this mean no more fogging necessary? :)

Looks like a good product, the only problem i see is the cost. Here in the U.S. it cost about $25.00 a gallon. It would be cheaper to buy a new carburetor every year. I use sta bil all year around and never have a problem.

In some states gas stations have separate pumps that sell ethanol free gas at a higher price. Unfortunately here in MA I think it is required for all gas to contain ethanol.

That's the best way to winterize, I use a turkey baster, empty all the gas, run it dry then add 4 stroke tru-fuel and your equipment runs great every spring. I do it with snow blowers to for the summer.

I would use it but it is expensive, especially since I use my equipment often enough it isn't really economical. Besides I add stabilizer to my fuel anyway.

I appreciate the effort that Dony makes in his videos but lets go 1 step further on this subject. Assume this and other products like it work as described. If you store your machine 1/2 tank or so and there is room for condensation you would need to add an alchohol based product to absorb the water and make it combustable. Alchohol is ethanol. You can buy it as 'dry gas' to absorb the water in your tank to keep it from freezing and causing big problems. BUT it is not friendly to carb parts and diaphragms on small 2stroke engines. Confused? Good, So am I! Thanks Dony.👍

What is the problem with de-fueling a machine before storing it? A big PLUS: doing that cleans out the tank of debris bits that WILL get in there. I dump the tanks into a white qt. container, making dirt visible, let it sit a couple minutes, then decant mix back into jug, using funnel. You could dump it into car's tank. I periodically wipe clean the white container with clean rag. Minute or less per machine, c'mon. Conscious thought is always an option.

WOW thanks a TON @donyboy73!!!!!!! Was gooooooglin' to see if it was worth the extra $$$$ to get Husq fuel or MotoMix, had been oscillating between TruFuel (and walmart's "Small Engine Fuel SEF" product) as I wasn't certain so am thrilled to see you endorse this because I've watched enough of your vids to know #1 you're absurdly knowledgeable/a 'whizz kid' at this stuff by any measure, and #2 that if it were inferior I.....I know I just 'know' you from RU-vid but would bet dollars to donuts TruFuel couldn't bribe you enough to make-up a video like this! I'm very thankful for the link because, sadly, your endorsement isn't *all* I need here, sadly you were speaking of regular petrol as being bad due to ethanol....ethanol sucks for sure but it's not as bad as the olefins or aromatics, Steve's Saloon has a video ("truth of pump gas" or something is the title) that has a great deal of info including Stihl infographics, paraffines are what you want in your fuel ie a pure alkylate fuel is best, Motomix is nearly a pure alkylate I'm going to check into TruFuel to see if it's the same.....***Have you ever run any tests?*** Our fuel provides the bang for the saws, if your fuel was ~50% alkylate fuel (which is basically gas station fuel, maybe 50-70% alkylate fuel) and you did baseline cuts then swapped to Motomix I am virtually positive you'll be faster I just dunno if it'd be 2% or 15%!!
