Hi, I love Tool as a band but it kinda gets boring if you ONLY react to them. But I don't want to unsubscribe cause I really enjoy your reactions. Could you please react to Flesh and the power it holds by Death?
@darkdeceptionkillsthelight9653
@darkdeceptionkillsthelight9653 4 года назад
@Simon BeeHYPE Sure, why not? It's a masterpiece of a song. Well ok, he could react to Lack of comprehension, Spiritual Healing, voice of the soul too. But I think Flesh and the power it holds is a really good start to Death. Cause he gets to know Chucks skills on the guitar and hears his voice. After that he could react to Voice of the soul maybe.

Ls Metalhead I understand where you’re coming from 100% and I see you comment on every single one of my videos - but, this is a long term project for me if I’m being honest...with all due respect I have 59K subscribers in which many have divided opinions on what I should react to! At the moment I’m just finishing off Tool’s discography before I start new bands 🙏🏻 I’ll be doing this RU-vid thing for years like I have no plans on stopping any time soon so your request will get done eventually and I appreciate you constantly asking me but just understand it from perspective as well bro, I can’t satisfy everyone’s needs at once - I need time to film/edit each and every video as well as working a full-time job❤️🙏🏻

Each time I listen to this, I get varying quantities of tears from, what Genius refers to as, the chorus: "You're the only one who can hold your head up high Shake your fists at the gates, saying 'I've come home now Fetch me the spirit, the son, and the father Tell them their pillar of faith has ascended It's time now, my time now Give me my, give me my wings!'" Maynard's delivery is so undeniable and powerful it just kills me.

I think that most of that would technically be a “pre-chorus”... and the actually chorus, (musically) would be the “wiiiiiinnngggsssss” part, most of the chorus being instrumental... although the composition of this song is very much unorthodox, although certain parts are obviously verses, and what not... most of the song is just composed very loosely in a way, and more of an instrumental journey with vocal additions almost used as another instrument.

The "collective judas" is referring to the congregation that Maynard's mother was a member of. Apparently, after she got ill, they started to say that her illness was a result of her having sinned. They started to look down on her. Acting like hypocrites. But through all the trials and tribulations and gossip, Maynard's mother always kept her faith. FYI, lol

Fantastic reaction of a fantastic pair of songs! "Cold fluorescence" is the phrase that always chokes me up. I can imagine Maynard by his mom's death bed under unsympathetic institutional lighting having this conversation with her, at least in his own mind, as she passes away. I cannot imagine that I would ever be able to share such an emotional experience with anyone, let alone write those lyrics as a song I'd have to sing in concert repeatedly. I just don't have that much emotional endurance. I respect Maynard so much for making himself that vulnerable for the sake of Tool's art. What a masterpiece! It is a unique work of art that I hope endures long after our generations have passed into history.

And when he says "set as I am in my ways and my arrogance, burden of proof tossed upon nonbelievers. You were my witness, my eyes, my evidence..." Just to expand on my earlier comment, Not a big deal but Judith probably should have came first. It's an angry Maynard who had yet to come to grips with what happened to his mother while she was still alive where as these songs you just did is a more thoughtful Maynard who has finally accepted it and mournful. Judith is a banger. You'll dig it.

@@mattvsmetaverse plus it kind of makes me think of my mom. Very religious, like the nicest human being on earth. She had breast cancer. She recovered from it but ever since she has pretty bad anxiety. Mostly about problems going on in the family and shit. She cares too much about us and it stresses her the hell out because she wants us all to be happy so any little conflict going on she'll have anxiety about. Hard to imagine a more selfless person. I cant imagine 27 years. It's a horrible tragedy to watch such a strong person deteriorate physically like that, all the while they are completely aware, yet can do nothing. You have to credit the genius musicality in all of Tool's work: able to take you on a spiritual journey, borderline out-of-body experience, even with some of the most taboo-like topics, or even some others more on the commercial side (e.g. Hooker With A Penis), making the whole thing just mind-numbing and ethereal...

It’s funny that you see “Hooker With a Penis” as a “commercial” track, what with the title, the chorus of “Fuuuuuck you buddy!” And “And if I’m the fucking man, then you’re the fucking man as well, so you can point that fucking finger up your ass!” Lol... not to mention the entire message of the song being an ode to anti-commercialism. Lol. “All you read and wear or see and hear on TV is a product... Waiting for your fat and dirty dollar... (Shut up and...) BUY!!!... BUY!!!... BUY!!!... My new record!!!! BUY!!!... BUY!!!... BUY!!!... Send more money!!! FUUUUUCK YOU BUDDY!!!! FUUUUUCK YOU BUDDY!!!! FUUUUUCK YOU BUDDY!!!! FUUUUUCK YOU BUDDY!!!!” Lol... not exactly a “commercial” song... but I do get what you mean... you’re just saying that it’s a lot more quick and easy and dirty and simple to get into. It’s considerably catchy compared to much of the other songs Tool has to offer. Although there a lot of other songs that I would put in front of HWAP as a more “commercial” venture for Tool... from Ænima, “Stinkfist, 46&2, and Ænema” are definitely the more “commercial” tracks of the album... (Even though one is a sexual metaphor of anal fisting 🤜🏽 as a metaphor for desensitization of society to media over time, while another is an ode to the apocalyptic destruction ☄️ 🌊 🔥of one of the most decadent, sinful, and fake places in America, California, or more specifically, LA...) lol... Tool doesn’t exactly do “commercial” well... lol... at least not from the standpoint of the A&R departments of the record labels... lol... to us TOOL fans, they do it AMAZINGLY! Lol! 😂

Freagairt iontach, a Drew. Great reaction, Drew. This one runs deep- a sober, somber tunnel through the unbearable passage of anguish, grief to remembrance and honour. The shimmering ripples of textured guitars and Maynards near mantra like hushed tones of reverence to his Ma in part 1 are entrancing. Haunting. Initially, I thought he was singing too low- I thought it was a bit too mumbled and couldnt hear what he was saying. But over the listens,its intention to be all the one volume like that hooked me in like a spell. The whole ting again plays out like a movie scene- the gathering darkness gathering you down and down the dark road, lit up and lead on by the lightning in the distant, as forbearing thunder sparks up the sky above. Rain pours down, Adams mournful guitar repeating itself , allowing Maynard more time to lead us on this journey. By the time everybody begins to rock again near the end, as you noted,the mood isnt exctly uplifting as such, but theres some form of release had- then it bows out again, as part 1 did, comin full circle. Incidentally- theres footage of Part 2 from Dublin at the aul' Point theatre ruffly this time in 06. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-igzR0IlgtLo.html 'Tis auld footage from phones from the time- but it sounds good. He sings it louder live- and watch the green streams of light wow the audience. The song itself - fair play to ya man with yer analysis. Its a long, deep album overall, so take yer time and again, it all slots in much more o'er time. Up next is The Pot. Uptempo, some bouncy riffs and beats- a good swing back to more energized Tool, especially after the darkened spin "Wings" takes ya.

If you could have, I would have recommended to listen to this in the dark, with your eyes closed. I do it everytime I listen to this song at home, and granted it’s only happened once, and years ago, but as a non-religious person, I had a ‘moment’, more spiritual I’d say, but just that ‘pulled out of my skin, enlightened’ kind of feeling, and it cemented this song as the best. Wven without that, this song is amazing, front to back, there is never a dull moment. Tool is amazing

Hey Drew, you should react to 10,000 Days LIVE from 2006. You can really hear Maynard is holding back tears trying to sing it. If you are interested, the video is "TOOL-10,000 Days 12.10.2006" by huntingtonst. I would paste a link but i dont wanna be spam.

Drew, you NEED to listen to this...These 2 songs and the song 10000 days all blended as if they were one song! *Tool - Wings For Marie (Pt 1), Viginti Tres & 10,000 Days (Wings Pt 2) [ Separate Channels ]* Tool made it to be a bonus track!!! I made this myself by mixing it myself after hearing a rumour they designed it to be heard this way. It works VERY well, I can't find it on RU-vid as a link though...

My simple breakdown of this is part 1, Maynard's mum dying and Maynard saying it's ok for her to go. Part 2, the funeral, how he feels about everyone and her death, and his mother's journey to heaven. Beautiful song. I wish they had made a video for it.

For those who like Tool, I highly recommend looking into J.S. Bach, a fantastic composer who was spiraling out all the way back in the 17th century. The Fibonacci sequence is all over his music.

You believed You believed in movements none could see You believed in me A passionate spirit Uncompromised Boundless and open A light in your eyes Then immobilized Vacant, broken Fell at the hands of those moments that I wouldn't see 'Cause it was you who prayed for me so What have I done to be a son to an angel? What have I done to be worthy? Daylight dims leaving cold fluorescence Difficult to see you in this light Please forgive this selfish question, but What am I to say to all these ghouls tonight? She never told a lie Well might have told a lie But never lived one Didn't have a life Didn't have a life But surely saved one See? I'm alright, now it's time for us to let you go

How we follow the path of the hero Boast about the day when the rivers overrun How we rise to the height of our halo Listen to the tales as we all rationalize Our way into the arms of the savior Fading all the trials and the tribulations None of us have actually been there Not like you Ignorant fibbers in the congregation Gather around spewing sympathy Spare me None of them can even hold a candle up to you Blinded by choices hypocrites won't see But enough about the collective Judas Who could deny you were the one who illuminated Your little piece of the divine This little light of mine The gift you passed onto me I'll let it shine To guide you safely on your way Your way home What are they going to do when the lights go down? Without you to guide them all to Zion? What are they going to do when the rivers overrun? Other than tremble incessantly High is the way, but our eyes are upon the ground You were the light and the way that they'll only read about I only pray Heaven knows when to lift you out Ten thousand days in the fire is long enough You're going home You're the only one who can hold your head up high Shake your fist at the gates saying I have come home now Fetch me the spirit The son, and the father Tell them their pillar of faith has ascended It's time now, my time now Give me my, give me my, wings Give me my Give me my Give me my Give me my Give me my wings You are the light, a way That they will only read about Set as I am in my ways and my arrogance Burden of proof tossed upon non-believers You were my witness My eyes, my evidence Judith Marie, unconditional one Daylight dims leaving cold fluorescence Difficult to see you in this light Please forgive this bold suggestion Should you see your maker's face tonight Look him in the eye Look him in the eye, and tell him I never lived a lie, never took a life But surely saved one, hallelujah It's time for you to bring me home These lyrics are fucking poetry

It’s Crazy to think about how for this current generation, Tool is basically “classic rock” in the way that when I was a kid in the 90s, Pink Floyd was to me (as far as both the huge rock band from the generation before me, and literally from a time-perspective, as in, Pink Floyd was from late 60s, but mostly the 70s when I was first getting into them in the mid-90s...) Jesus it makes me feel old to think if it that way. Tool is actually fucking classic rock now! And it makes me feel even older when I actually hear bands like nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Red Hot Chili Peppers in ACTUAL classic rock radio stations, being played right next to Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and Creedence Clearwater Revival... I mean, Jesus!

Eric Stodolnik it is weird to think of it that way. I have brothers and sisters who were huge Pink Floyd fans in the 70s when i was born. And Floyd to them was the same way when i was in high school as Tool is to me now.

unicorn girl 605 .... 🦄 👧... yeah STP is another one I e noticed that gets played a lot on classic rock stations too... even Alice In Chains! I think those bands that have been mentioned so far in this comment thread are particularly played on classic rock stations alongside The Who, Black Sabbath, and David Bowie because their music just particularly goes well with that classic rock sound. But yeah, before long, we’re gonna be hearing Smashing Pumpkins, Green Day, and Weezer next to Crosby Stills and Nash, Simon and Garfunkel, and The Beach Boys! Lol! Crazy to think that the music of my youth is considered classic rock now. I’ve even heard Sublime played on classic rock stations! One thing I think is awesome about this though, is that people who are stuck in the 70s, who were actually kids when this actual classic rock was first released and who probably thought all that “new music these kids are listening to” in the 90s that many considered not to be good music, who would say, “this new music these kids are listening to these days is crap! Good music died in the 70s! Where are all the 3 minute guitar solos?” Etc. Etc. Etc. Are now being exposed to these 90s rock bands being played right next to the music that they’ve been stuck listening to for the past 5 decades... and them being played in this new context for them as equals to the bands they’ve always considered to be the end-all, be-all of rock music will actually open them up to “new” music lol (3 decade old “new” music lol)... that’s at least one positive for this music being re-classified as “classic rock” lol But everything is being shifted over... I’ve even heard straight “oldies” stations (like 98.7 KLUV here in Dallas) that once only played 50s music, and SOME early 60s music... but mostly songs like “It’s my party and I’ll cry if I want to” and “Johnny B. Good” and “Pretty Woman” And “All I Have to do is Dream” and “Jailhouse Rock” And “Splish Splash” And “Great Balls Of Fire” And “Yakety Yak” and “Earth Angel” And so on and so on... now I will hear stuff like Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” And “Crocodile Rock” And “Rocket Man” And the late 60s Beatles where they used to only play the 50s Rock n roll sounding early 60s Beatles, like “Twist and Shout” And “She Loves You” And “I wanna golf your hand”... and stuff like a lot more Creedence Clearwater Revival, And early The Who, And Joni Hendrix and so on... where all that music was strictly “classic rock” growing up and “oldies” radio stations strictly played 50s rock, and a tiny, tiny amount of early 60s rock, but only if it had that old “50s-rock-n-roll” sound, like they early Beatles, and early Beach Boys, And so on... but really 98% of the time it had to be legit 50s rock... like Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly, Evelyn Brothers, Elvis Presley, And a bunch of Motown hits... basically a 24 hour ad for Muscle Shoals Recording Studio, lol... But now everything has shifted over at some point, where they are now playing 60s music, and even up to some early 70s stuff like the Elton John material I mentioned, on the fucking “OLDIES” stations, as well as 90s rock that used to be relegated to “alternative rock” stations as well as “Metal and Hard Rock” stations, next to bands like Korn and Mudvayne and Pantera and Metallica... have now been shifted over to classic rock stations. It’s just crazy! But that first time that I actually hear Tool’s “Sober” being played after “Stairway To Heaven” or “Hey Jude” on one of these classic rock stations, I may just slit my wrists then and there! Lol!
