Dry up. You're competing with at least one man who worked as an electrician for over 60 years and in that time, probably forgotten more about electricity than you'll ever know. He and others have at times worked in this box and never found a single problem with anything in it. The 30 amp fuses were stepped down to safer levels long ago, though the wiring attached to them was 10 gauge and could have safely carried that load. I can't tell you why it was done that way, as it likely predates my even being alive.
For all the rest of you, this video is about the Trumbull 2924-4 electrical service panel in my parents home. I'd guess that it dates from the late 1930s, though I've never been able to prove it.
In 2001, the neutral line on the power pole burned in two during a brownout that took place in the heat of summer. Nothing dramatic happened--only one of the fuses blew. After that mess was cleaned up, there have been no further issues.
