Former President Donald Trump’s lawyer may be losing what many attorneys would consider one of the most important things to have: credibility. It’s no secret that the former president might not be the easiest client to represent but Trump’s attorney, Todd Blanche, might be risking his reputation to do so. Judge Juan Merchan seemed frustrated with Blanche during a hearing this week to determine whether or not Trump violated a gag order in his first criminal trial. In response to Blanche’s claim that Trump was attempting to comply with the judge’s orders, Judge Merchan told the attorney that he’s losing credibility with the court. I don't like Trump nor Biden. Two old bags that I wish weren't our only main choices. But I'm not about to condemn anyone to prison unless they deserve it. From the outside looking in, that's the understatement of the century! trump's scariest legacy that may persist long after he's gone, will be the disturbing phenomenon of the maga cult. Will it have a slow death and whither away when their vaunted leader is turned to ashes, or will it morph into the next wave of cultism? America will need to upgrade its laws and education system to quash the tendency of so many of its citizens being prone to the spell of conspiracy theories and snake oil salesmen, or saleswomen, such as has been promoted by trump. I agree 100%. Classic narcissistic behavior. The mentality that you’re my lawyer therefore I own you. I’m going to tell you how to do your job and what you’re going to say to the judge or I will make you suffer. I wouldn’t be surprised if part of the strategy is to get the judge to demand compliance in order to trigger aggressive action from those followers. It would explain why the judge is trying to both keep his courtroom under control and be mindful of the potential threat outside the courthouse. He’s refusing to take the bait.

It isn't agreeing to defend Trump that is the problem, it is deciding to advance argument with no logical or legal basis in pursuit of that defense that causes loss of credibility and absence of integrity. Our system of justice absolutely calls for competent representation for all criminal defendants. Our rights and freedoms are protected by insisting that those rights and freedoms are respected/followed regardless of whatever bad things the defendant might have done. But competent defense doesn't include ridiculous assertions.

In the New York Constitution, Article 1, Section 8, it states, "and the jury shall have the right to determine the law and the fact." In this trial Judge Juan Merchan is going to ignore this jury right. During this trial, the jury will only be allowed to determine the fact, not the law. Does anyone think the jury will hear about this Constitutional right? It's not going to be heard during jury selection, it's not going to be heard during jury instructions, the defense is not going to be allowed to bring it up during trial and the judge and prosecution are certainly not going to bring it up! This is a constitutional right the jury should know about!

The prosecution didn't ask for that. They asked for a $10,000 fine for each time he broke the gag order. Better to make him a poor man than a martyr in their eyes. He's definitely starting to hurt financially.
