If Smith was illegally appointed and the case was dismissed in Florida, then the same should happen in the J6 case. Biden gave the documents back!! Voluntarily! Had Trump given the documents back, there would never have been a case. Trump is charged with OBSTRUCTION. He lied about having the documents, then moved them around in Mar-o-Largo thinking nobody would catch him. It's all been caught on film! His attorneys told him to give them back, and he lied to them and tried to make them lie to the government. These were Top Secret documents with nuclear codes!! Uh, we have had many special counsels appointed by both Republican and Democrat administrations for decades, and the lawfulness of using special counsels has been upheld multiple times by our Supreme Court. This goes all the way back to Nixon and Watergate. Look it up. There was nothing unlawful about Garland's appointment of Jack Smith. And this ruling will be overturned but Cannon has already successfully delayed this case (the indictment was 18 months ago!) so, yeah, you win but justice was not served here. Trump and his lawyers signed an affidavit that they had returned all the classified material he had taken home to Mar-A-Lago. Only problem was he still held a lot of classified documents - oops. That led to the search warrant by the FBI and the indictment. If he had simply returned all the docs we wouldn't be arguing about this, but he willfully retained those docs and even instructed his workers to move the boxes to other locations in Mar-A-Lago, i.e. he tried to hide them.

The courts have affirmed this for at least 30 years. Cannon is using a technicality to dismiss the case. Garland could just hire Smith to work around this. This decision will end up being reversed on appeal. It would also be grounds for having Cannon removed from the case.

I'm saddened by the dismissal as I believe the American people need to know what happened and how reckless Trump is with managing our national defense secrets. If Trump had simply returned all the docs instead of lying about returning them, we probably wouldn't have needed an expensive investigation. So, you might ask Trump to pay it since by lying to us and saying he returned all the docs when the search showed he hadn't, I would say he is responsible for all this.
