Am not a Hawaiian, neither a US citizen, but as far as i Know. In historical theory. Hawaii wasn't a nation by itself before. It is part of a nation called MAHARLIKA or Tala state Philippines main island chain, saba Malaysia, Guam, and Hawaii is the part of it. As an independent nation state, Hawaii Kingdom never granted permission to the USA to be annexed. Annexation requires permission. It is a mutual contractual agreement. One country cannot annex another independent nation state by simply declaring it annexed. Otherwise we could just claim Canada as part of the US and be done with it.

What Gloria meant to say is that, there are 2 ways to be a natural born US citizen(president candidate) You can be Natural born through: 1) Blood (atleast one parent was a US citizen at the time of baby's birth) 2) Land (the baby was born on US soil) to be a regular American Citizen you just need to go to the embassy and naturalize.
