I can't help but think of a number of times when they used that as an excuse for Trump. There's a Yahoo News article (can't post direct links in the comments) from 2019 entitled, "The many, many times Trump has said he was only joking" by Jerry Adler. Look it up.
As a Puerto Rican especially, I'm so tired of how we're treated like foreigners and not like we're part of the United states. It's this bs that needs to stop. We don't get representation but we should
@@TheRatsintheWalls Statehood is largely up to the people of Puerto Rico, and has been hotly debated for decades. I stayed with one family close to El Junque, and they wanted statehood, and then I stayed with another family who wanted to remain and independent territory. The US government is not preventing statehood. mmmmm, I should add that I have not looked up where that stands now. I could be wrong on the last point.
I'm pretty sure South Park gave up on mocking Trump because they couldn't come up with anything that was more outlandish than the shit he'd say or do himself.
Replace Puerto Rico with any one of the 50 states, and it would be disqualifying for a candidate to even entertain the idea. Imagine if the punchline wasn't Puerto Rico, but was about a pile of garbage called, say Alabama?!? The outrage would be intense, and it should be. Trump threw a hate rally at Madison square garden, a hate rally that has echoes of Nazi hate rallies, which also took place at Madison square garden.
Remember when Clinton called Trump fans a basket of deplorables and they all lost their minds? As always, it's fine when they call other people garbage, but when someone does it to them, holy crap, that's unacceptable, suddenly their feelings are important, etc etc etc
And not one of the racially tinged jokes was directed towards white people, which is incredibly revealing and cuts right through his "I made fun of everyone" argument. If he'd have really done a wide range of jokes about racial tropes, to include the privileged and powerful class in our country, then I could have given him some leeway that he was just a shock-based comedian doing his schtick. But, he clearly only punched down, against the very categories of people that Trump and his supporters despise.
You don't need to hear a joke to think of stereotypes. Stereo types and racism are different things. Comedians like Tony aren't afraid of controversies.
There are reports that Trump people review his jokes and did stop him from calling Harris an insult beginning with a c . But they were fine with the rest , including The Puerto Rico Garbage joke . not one person that talked after Tony condemned him for the tasteless jokes including Trump I heard one guy tonight that try to explain it as a call to address a problem in Puerto Rico with their disposal of Trash But he did not talk about any answers nor did any one who spoke after Tony last night including Trump
4 hours for me. And if anyone has questions, check out Feb 20 1939 at Madison Square Gardens. Wikipedia has a great pic of the event. A giant portrait of Washington, flanked by American flags.... And swastikas. I kid you not.
@@TheTrumpReaper it not uncommon here in the south to see houses flying Trump flags and confederate or Nazi flags . Especially outside of the major cities
Semi-unrelated, your comment remind me of Milkshake Duck. A concept of a person who gained fame for something innocent, got later found out they said/did something horrible.
Heck, before pandemic there was widespread fear of third world war! Fear that Drumpf's bad behavior toward world leaders will anger at least one of them enough to declare war (iirc North Korea was most feared).
And he has cemented himself as a failed comic now. If any night shows had him on before, they will not be seeking another visit. Go ahead Tony; your entire career is now staying in Rogan’s good graces. Awesome job at such a young age.
He has one of the most successful live shows on YT. I'm not going to say it was a good set but no one had a problem when he made racial jokes when he hosted the Tom Brady roast. Just sayin', seems like a lot of fake outrage that wouldn't exist if the event had nothign to do with politics.
@prozak169 It’s easy to tell raunchy jokes at a roast; Donald Trump is running for President with plans for racist policies. And this “comedian” is opening for him with the lamest highschool level race jokes.
@@BluecedorTony is actually wildly successful. I don’t think he is funny or deserves the success he has. But unfortunately no, this will only bring him more success.
I'm Puerto Rican and I must admit that I'm still pissed about what happened yesterday. What's funny is that Handkierchief (or whatever his name is) was set to appear at an event here in Puerto Rico next week. That event was canceled today, for obvious reasons. You have to be a special kind of stupid to one day call a place 'garbage' and then go to that place like if nothing happened.
I suspect his bookings calendar will be emptying out faster than Trump's bowels when his staff just put a fresh pair of depends on him. Pretty soon he'll just be warming up venues for Roseanne Barr.
@@BluecedorIt's also a literal gaslighting technique- "I was only joking", "You don't have a sense of humor", etc etc. Literally documented gaslighting techniques.
Here's the thing. Puerto Ricans are just the most recent group that needs speaking out on. No one is surprised. And this "comedian" wasn't the worst of what was platformed. Well, okay, it's a several way tie. Other highlights included calling Harris the literal anti-Christ and describing Palestinian _toddlers_ as "trained to kill Americans." Not saying we shouldn't appreciate those who speak out. I'm a trans guy and Steve has spoken many times on my community's behalf. But at what point do we get to quit being grateful for being treated like human beings? Enough. I hope you are as angry as I am. And voting, and doing everything you can to end this madness. Because if you are like me, you are getting damned tired of being defended, _needing_ to be defended, from literal racist, bigoted, fascists.
God, we’re really here aren’t we? We’re finally coming up to the most important Election Day of the past few generations. I don’t want a century of progress to die, I’m insulated by a few privileged factors myself, but even still, I don’t want others to lose everything they fought so hard to attain in the pursuit of equality and happiness. Vote blue!
To steal a line from another RU-vidr: 2024 is not the most important election of our lives: The most important was 2016, and we failed. 2020 and 2024 are attempts to remedy that failure.
Far-right comedy always punches down, that's why it's not funny. It's not about unexpected truths or observations making people laugh, it's all about ripping on people you don't like. It's basically bullying.
My go-to response to bigoted jokes is to pretend I don't get it and ask them to explain it to me. They never DO, of course. Because the "joke" is always just BEING a bigot. It's always JUST saying something bigoted. They never ADMIT to their own obvious, undeniable, unmistakable bigotry, though, so it usually just shuts the conversation down.
She seems to have caught a lot of heat from the left lately (not the Tankie left, I don't count them). I don't keep up on all the Washington DC buzz, because I don't hate myself that much, but I still like her.
Imagine trump winning in spite of holding this Nazi rally at a place that once hosted a Nazi rally. I'm not thanking this clown until trump actually loses.

Unfortunately because of demographics and the electoral college it’s not super likely. The big Puerto Rican communities are in NY, CA and FL 2/3 of which aren’t in swing states. It could have an effect In Florida… although a majority are in South Florida and Orlando which are mainly already blue counties. Although it could swing Miami-Dade which went red for the first time (by a very small margin) thanks to older Cuban exiles and rich Venezuelan exiles that tend to have reflexive antipathy simply from the word “socialista!”. But Puerto Ricans aren’t a huge fraction of our 75% latin majority county. And PR doesn’t get electoral votes as a territory.
I was already familiar with what happened at MSG in 1939, but I was going to watch the documentary and share it with family and friends if the doc passed the test, but I only got a little past the 6:00 mark... it's so disappointing that even when they're presenting such damning evidence that shows that trump (and his cronies) are fascists that they won't even say "he's a fascist". The guy on the left ALMOST said it, but backed down at the last moment due to cowardice. Disappointing, but not unexpected.
I strongly appreciate not only calling out what the stand-up set really is (RACIST!), but also appropriately critique it for its abysmal quality of function. Very well done!
The Puerto Rico joke isn't even original. The original version talked about the North Atlantic garbage patch, and the punchline was, "That's no way to talk about Britain!" How does such a hack even get to the point where he gets gigs like that? Are the Republicans that starved of talent?
I’m from a city that is often joked about as a shithole and full of crime. I can giggle along as someone who grew up in the aforementioned city, but the context that Tony brought this “humor” to is what people are mad about. This isn’t a shitty comedy club, this is the culmination of every grievance that Trump and his supporters have accumulated through modern history. The context isn’t the only thing that defines the severity of what he said, it’s the lack of shame he expressed saying it and trying to walk it back like the shithead coward that he is.
I’m a 54 year old white guy who has already voted Harris three weeks ago. My wife is Puerto Rican and doesn’t really engage in politics but doesn’t like trump. She was stunned when she saw these comments at a presidential rally, and pretty much summed up what I’ve known for years saying that these people who laughed at this are sick and full of hate.
Don't forget Puerto Rico Hurricane 2018 when Trump insulted Puerto Rico and didn't send them aid: *Why should we send you anything, you don't deserve it! You owe the US Billions. I'm not sending you nothing!*- Trump! The US Govt was enraged and sent aid later! Cannot stand Trump or anything Republican! 💙🌊💙🌊
Puerto Rico Hurricane 2018, Trump insulted Puerto Rico and the Governor there by not wanting to send them aid! A outraged US Govt sent them aid later! This never surprises me! I cannot stand Bigot Republicans and Bigot Autocrat Presidents named Trump! Voted 💙🌊💙🌊💙🌊💙
@@clifftarrance you’re right, but she won’t even register. She just doesn’t want to vote, I don’t know why. I really don’t push her to vote, we’re in New Jersey, Harris is definitely going to win here, dems always do. This state doesn’t matter much anyway, unfortunately.
Campaign spokesperson Karoline Leavitt on the racist "jokes" told by Trump rally speaker Tony Hinchcliffe: "And the crowd, they didn't mind, right?" So racism is OK as long as the crowd doesn't mind. Got it.
Guy knew his audience, give him that much. Not a nickel's worth more, however, b/c his "act" was just a declaration of shared bigotry, and the jokes were a thin cover for it.
A comedian defending their material by saying, "jeez, it's a joke; grow a sense of humor," is missing the point in the worst way. But, sure, keep punching down with mediocre punchlines, Tony. See how that works for you.
Papa Joe gave him success like the rest of his unfunny bunch, so as long as he hangs on Rogan's teet, he'll be fine. Nobody thought he was funny but he ended up with a big podcast supported by Rogans crappy comedy club.
Its possible to punch down, but the secret js that it only looks like a punch down, and has more to going on, like you're the joke. Not alot of people know how to pull it off, and it ends up getting parroted by those who didn't get the set up and execution and just think it's mean spirited nonsense, so the practice has kind of fallen to the wayside.
I know people like this. They're the people everyone kept telling me were going to 'grow up' eventually, and just picked on me because I was more mature than them [ a lie parents love to tell their kids, right up there with You Get Bullied Because You're Superior' line ] And it's VERY clear a whole lot of those little kids never did grow up. They still think jokes are saying ugly things to people you don't like to ingratiate themselves to someone they want to be liked by. They don't select for experiences they want, instead always selecting *away* from experiences and burning bridges before even saying hello. The bullies never grew up, cause neither the school nor their parents could be bothered, and the kids they harassed would get in more trouble for fighting back than the bully would for provocation. And now, after no meaningful consequences after remaining Children while passing the age of 30, they're ready to pitch NATIONAL fits to get their way. And like children, their desires change frequently, they have no idea how to go after their desires, and after Not Asking Anyone they'll decide they can Just Do The Thing and ask for forgiveness later through *genuine* tears over *mild discomfort.* Frankly, if someone provokes another, the provoked should be allowed to thwap em over the head for bein a ding dong.
I never thought I'd hear a defense worse than "I'm not racist, I have a black friend" But here comes "I'm not racist, I vacation in Puerto Rico" to take the 'crown'
Also "I made fun of everyone" is a pretty terrible 'defense' in this context too. Okay, so he was racist against everyone? So he's a white supremacist is what he's saying. He's into nazi shit. Which we already figured out by the fact that he agreed to open to Trump. He didn't need to say it again.
Wore a shirt displaying my Puerto Rican nationality ever since this rally, and the amount of folks who wouldn't look at me in the face as I greeted them made me feel vindicated. These folks have no shame when they dehumanize their opposition, but as soon as a face is attached to "the enemy", everything changes.

Every horrible thing Trump says/does creates a response, and his believers react by circling the wagons even tighter. Not even light can escape that cluster now.
But it might inspire somebody who was going to sit this race out, to not sit this race out. If it's one person, if that's the only person that Steve reaches, then more power to him!
My prediction: this " comedian " will soon be joining the ranks of stellar talents such as Kirk Cameron, Scott Baio, Kevin Sorbo, and lest we forget, the superstar of media talents....the great Rob Schneider.
There was a time the GOP could have counted such luminaries as Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Adam Sandler, and many other major movie stars as public backers, get them to show up to shake hands and pose for pics with their candidates. But they can't get a single one of them to one of their rallies, or anyone remotely of their stature.

"The Commonwealth of Puerto Rico is a self-governing unincorporated territory of the United States." Chances are (or at least were) good that it would have officially been recognised and incorporated as the 51st state of the USA.

@@morganhess6876 - Thanks for clearing up that you're speaking "honestly" with the TBH. ... The guy told several really unfunny jokes during his entire set, yet the crowd only groaned audibly, loud enough to startle the comedian, to THAT joke in particular. But if you need to make excuses for the racist's comments by minimizing how vile they were, you do you.
Imagine if a comedian in 1940 tried to boost for Wendell Willke by saying: You know, the Japanese just set up a new target range in the Pacific. I think they call it Pearl Harbor. It just makes me wonder if this guy even knows enough about his own country to realize Puerto Rico is PART of the USA.
You know what that whole Madison Square Garden rally reminded me of? It actually was the real life equivalent of your "If Republicans said the quiet part out loud" skits, and, as usual, reality was stranger than fiction.
They're a cult. They don't respond to mere words that are meant to draw cheers, they respond to familiar stimuli. Some guy they don't know says a racism and they'll defend it if an outsider condemns them, but they'd have to think about what he says before deciding to laugh or cheer if it doesn't naturally trigger a laugh. Which a lazy joke naturally doesn't. Trump says the same things over and over because he and his handlers know the crowd just wants to hear the greatest hits.
A side note. MSG only holds 19,500 people. Of course, the big orange buffoon will say it's 100k. Just for comparison, Kamala drew over 30,000 I Texas Fri night!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
A sad thing this reminded me of is that the flaoting garbage patch in the Pacific is larger than Texas. If Puerto Rico were that size it would be treated quite a bit differently.
Some good news: According to an article in the LA Times last month, the Great Pacific Garbage Patch could be eliminated in 10 years. "At current levels, the cleanup would take a decade with a price tag of $7.5 billion, the Netherlands-based Ocean Cleanup said in a press release, announcing the group’s intention to eliminate the garbage patch entirely. However, computer models suggest a more aggressive approach could complete the job in just five years and cost $4 billion."
How tf do you open with a joke calling American citizens trash in America? Puerto Ricans are US citizens btw. They literally have the Interstate Highway system there and everything.
I watched tony hinchcliffe, I did not know he was supposed to be a comedian until I heard people saying he was. He was not funny. People can make "humor" hurt like a club. Just because a speaker says he is telling jokes, does not make him funny. Calling hate speak, humor, does not make it anything other than hatred. Just because republicans act like clowns, it does not make them funny. It makes them snakes in clown suits
I'm not defending Tony's set or performing for a wanna be dictator... but he would absolutely say that, or worse, about any other state in the US. I'm more upset with him stumping for Trump than tasteless jokes.
The 'comedian' didn't 'make fun' of 'everyone'. He never said a bad thing about white people. It was just everyone else that wasn't white. As a white guy, maybe he should have only 'made fun' of white people. Plenty of fuel there.
What's crazy is that unlike when Saville was alive, we already know all the heinous stuff Trump has done. And there's so little push back from his fans...

Gasp! The guy who's first line on stage was to yell asian slurs for a whole minute, and called the audience "race traitors" for laughing at the japanese comedian might be racist? Who could have thought.
A few months ago, I was talking to my chud brother about some new game that's coming out. Whatever it was, the conversation transitioned into something about an Asian Peter Pan, which for some reason upsets him. It eventually comes out that he's also mad about black people playing "white" characters, for no reason besides, I quote, "it's not the way it was when I was growing up, so I don't like it." I know no one believes that's what he said, but he did. I promise that he also said the following when I told him that I found his logic to be racist: "How can I be racist? My best friend is black, and I just paid for him to go to a football game." Trust me, I was shocked, too, because I've never heard these things actually said in earnest. That's the level of discourse with a gooooooood deal of people. I think the Carlin joke about "think of how stupid the average person is" is a little too mean-spirited. At the same time, it is what came to mind when talking to my brother, who is forty years old now, and exactly the kind of person who is into all of this Rogan-sphere bro comedy crap. It's a shame. It's a big mass of confusion, and really, they're all just anxious because they can't throw around the N R F words with impunity on mainstream channels. I saw a clip of Brendan Shaub and Andrew Schulz (or whichever meat puppets) talking about performing at the Comedy Mothership, and Shaub said, "we can talk about anything... we can say the N word" (paraphrase), as though it was a mark of accomplishment. The inability of any of these people to recognize the emptiness in their souls is a little concerning. It's getting dark out here, guys.
