The advantage of this scale is that in case of severe floods one can use the finished model for evacuation purposes. :-D Capital ships in 1/200 are just insane.
Could be a superdetailers dream. Lots of see through hanger deck spaces. A little stretched sprue and brass rod on those interior walls would do wonders.
At first sight I could asure that that hull ain't accurate shaped, rather looks some squared like the ESSEX class carriers...., I was expecting a better version of that famous vessel, I've still convinced that the MERIT INTERNATIONAL LTD..USS Yorktown CV-5 1/350th scale model kit has the better accurate shaped HULL yet..!..without to mention the REVELL old mold from the '60s in 1/480th scale..VERY NICE VIDEO..THANKS FOR SHARE THAT REVIEW..!
@@NigelsModellingBench YEAH...!..you are on the right..! that was the only one dissapointing I had to work on it so carefully and so slow...along two weeks.shaving those annoying planks...with a razor blade....bye mate..!
Hi Nigel, better put a warning on the front of this video too else the amount of 3-13 year olds ordering this kit on their Mastercard before you break the bad news will lead to a massive backlash from your younger viewers! 😆 Looks like a very nice kit. If only time was no object.
Knew mentioning that Trumpeter bringing out CV-6 in 1/200th would have you rummaging through your stash ;) The Essex Class will have Trumpeter really scratching their heads, as they went through so many structural changes during their lengthy careers.
The Yorktown Class Carries!!!!! My favorite ships in history!!!!!! They held the line, Yorktown lost 😞 at Midway on June 6, Hornet at the Battle at Santa Cruz in October, and Enterprise would survive and be the most decorated US Warship in history! The sad Think is the US government sold it for scrap in 1959! Still my favorite WW2 carries!
Dad was fitting out the Independence in Philly. The Enterprise is on the opposite side of the pier.I asked him if he remembered it."Oh yes,I saw it everyday besides,it was impossible to see it and not think of my ship.(YorktownCV5)
Do you know of and detail kits for the 1:200 Yorktown? I’ve been looking and I can’t find one. I can only find one for the Hornet. Would that work you think?
@@StephenCole1916 that’s good to hear. MK/KA misled me after months of saying they are making one they decided to do it for the Enterprise version after its war refit. Models aren’t the same size so it can’t be reused or kit bashed for the yorktown.
Hello thanks for video. If You want fix Hull USS Iowa use plaans from Floating Drydock. But they are in 1:192 scale. You Can use plans for BB63 for hull
@@NigelsModellingBench That I didn't know ! I loved building those Kits. I did the three versions, Yorktown, Hornet and Enterprise as my little 'Midway' collection.
I know it's been 3 years since you've made this video but was hoping you might be able to point me in the direction of where you got the hull profile plan you show early on in this video. I have the Webb plans but they're at 1/192 scale and I'm hesitant to chop them up to fit in a scanner or copier. Any help would be appreciated! I'm hoping to correct the hull for my next project.
Even though they're from the same class, I thiiiiink that USS Hornet was a bit different from USS Yorktown CV-5 and USS Enterprise CV-6, I might remember wrong though! USS Hornet was commissioned roughly four years after USS Yorktown, 30th of September 1937 and 20th of October 1941 respectively....
@@NigelsModellingBench Yorktown Class, USS Yorktown CV-5, 1937. USS Enterprise CV-6, 1938. USS Hornet CV-8, 1941. USS Hornet CV-7, 1940. I wonder if we'll see a USS Wasp CV-7, which was on her own and slightly smaller than and more vulnerable the Yorktowns...
@@NigelsModellingBench Would offer to buy it off you. But its far too big for me lol. I have had Tamiya's Enterprise CV65 in 1/350 in my stash for years. Been afraid to build it lol.
Fast look at this I see one mistake right off. Yorktown never had FC radar on her 2 gun directors., before her loss at Midway. Wonder what else Trumpeter got wrong.
Hello Nigel, my first comment was a bit unsuccessful :-)... a nice report on the Yorktown. I have the model too. Likewise the Hornet (unfortunately almost nothing matches the original, Hangar walls, hull, hangar deck etc....). Yorktown is much better. I think there are missing portholes and a few sections of the hanger walls are wrong. Greetings PS: I watch your Titanic build report. Great... I´m fighting with the Bismarck hull :-)... Dock Keel...
@@NigelsModellingBench yeah. I had high hopes that the Enterprise would be late war.... (I bought her never the less, but it's a shame trumpeter has no 1/200 Avengers)
Yes and no. There were indeed no Avengers on Yorktown during the Battle of Midway as Yorktown was still equipped with Devastators, but Avengers in general were already available at that time and they were actually present during the battle, but were flown from the island not from carriers.
@@dusanbolek8004 your right on flying off of Midway however they were not ready for carrier operation. The Avengers became available during the Solomon’s Campaign.
I don't like reviews, I feel they are unnecessary. I like your build videos they are excellent. That is why I watch reviews for a minute or two. When you build on video you are going to warn modelers of a problem, right? You will show us the box art and instructions as you go. So when you find a problem you will expertly guide us with your solving the problematic kit.
They can help you decide if you want the kit in the first place and give you an idea of what you get for your money. Some kits I have purchased over the years I wish there had been a review for, so I didn’t buy them 😂
