I'm not an atheist, but I agree about the amazing amount of hypocrisy of some Christians. And, if I hadn't already converted to Christianity 30 yrs ago, I sure as hell wouldn't be tempted to convert in today's religious climate.

That is not obvious looking at how America is functioning.

The Trump followers either don't know or don't care what our founding documents say. The leaders of MAGA churches and the elected MAGA leaders see an opening here for personal gain and power, and they smell blood. Many of them will do literally anything or justify anything that they need to do for that gain and power. To me, that's the most frightening thing about how MAGA threatens our country.

Actually, the pastor was just reading a quote from the Bible that some charlatan is using to prove a point, what I believe is that the Divine has given us all the authority to rule over ourselves, this is called free will. I am not religious I am spiritual meaning I believe in the Soul, and that we are all part of everyone and everything, and we are made of the same stuff that the Universe is made of, it is a loving creative energy no matter what you call it. It does not judge us nor command us to do anything because our purpose in life is the growth and advancement of our Soul. We do not need a book or middleman to tell us how since we are all part of the Divine or Universal energy, the only thing we need to do is look within. There are many ancient texts some a lot older than the bible, all were written by Humans and therefore flawed, they were guides for the people of the time they were written. Most all the texts have very good wisdom that can be applied by people today, they are not the law, simply a guide. Trump and these fake Religious people want to declare Trump as Jesus or God, in most religions this is called blasphemy. I do believe that everyone is held responsible for all the thoughts, actions, and deeds they do whether good or bad in this lifetime, so if you follow evil people as in wicked and profoundly immoral, you will feel what some call karma but I call it the Universal law of attraction. In the end, you will judge yourself. Trump will fall and he will be consumed by his own darkness. So if, we all have the power to change things, let us put out good energy by loving ourselves and others, helping others when we can, and the planet. It is We The People, not one person, any political party, or religious group. We must protect and defend the separation of Church and State as well as the Constitution!

I believe in the teachings of Jesus handed down from his father and the constitution (maybe not all) but given the best advice to guide us America

Certain of the larger evangelical Churches in the US are strongly influenced by large $$$ donors well connected in the GOP party, as reported by multiple sources. It appears they've let their personal politics get way ahead of their faithfulness.... and seem to be rewriting their beliefs to fit the political narrative. Respectfully, they're not thinking about other Christians, at all.... they've gone down a rabbit hole and they rarely hear from anyone with different views. Hopefully some will exit their echo chamber and see some light.

One of the reasons I prefer to go to an Anglican church, here in UK, is precisely this reason. Its leaders are ALL rigorously trained in Theology to Degree levels, and all must serve at least one curacy under the leadership of a more experienced Minister at a Parish, before taking on their own Parish themselves. We all trust our leaders to be doctrinally sound in the Teachings of the Bible.

Vengeance belongs to God, not to the political idolators. Remember, wrath is one of the Seven Deadly Sins.

Some use scripture. Of course they usually only use those parts they like and can be twisted into conforming to their desires.

people forget that the holy books were written by men trying to put the teachings of the manifestation of God in perspective with the times they lived in🙂

I, kind of, saw it as akin to my school notebook: With class notes (the lessons from God) AND notes to myself (don't eat the cafeteria pork; it will make you sick). Just a reminder the Books often equate to different scrolls or writings or letters, while the chapters and verses were added later to make it easier to find certain parts. "Who adds chapters and verses to their letters from camp?" Also, the Epistles were letters FROM someone (most often attributed to Paul to various churches), but we do not have the letters (or verbal reports) TO the writer that prompted those letters.

@@scj2117 exactly. most people read holy books without understanding the context, history, culture, norms, and the quirks of the original language. this is even more exaggerated with the bible as the different parts were written by very different people at a very large gap of time during which everything changed.

The Bible has different portions written from approximately 1700 years ago to several thousand years older than that. A comment I saw recently pointed out that we are doing the equivalent of trying to understand the difference between a "booty call" and a "butt dial" without any of the surrounding cultural context.

@@Turai12 The people who constantly insist "Judgement Day is At Hand" seem to forget that scripture says that only God knows when that day and hour will be. They are like the priests of old, reading chicken entrails to divine the Will of God (pun intended). They also forget that any Judgement Day will not just be about non-believers, a lot of "believers" will find themselves on the receiving end of some pointed questions, if nothing else.
