Getting a traditional big budget film funded would be hard as hollywood depends on the chinese movie market for a large part of their profit. I don't believe it would be very popular there.

Anna Karenina why it would depend on only Chinese movie market? I am confused. This is about Vietnamese women, Vietnamese history, Vietnamese heroes. At least in Vietnam alone 90 million viewers for sure. I truly don’t know how modern Chinese feelings on these Vietnamese Women but their ancestors didn’t like the Trung Sisters much. I think the rest of the world would watch a true story with lesson learned on human resilient and bravery regardless of what nationality. It’s rare to see women saved the day in real life, especially fought and won against the most powerful army in that time. This need Hollywood touch to be a EPIC movie. We can dream right?

@thinhsuynhuoc
@thinhsuynhuoc Год назад
Most of our history was erased from books and scrolls by china. It is a shame. Some Vietnamese historians are convinced that a lot of china's advancements and inventions were actually vietnamese but taken. For example the legend of the Nỏ Thần An Dương Vương (Divine bow of King An Duong) was said to he dated back to about 2500 years ago. Which is 500BCE. The legend states that it was a magical bow made out of the turtle god's claw and that it could shoot multiple arrows at once and was never seen before. The legend says the foreign force that the bow is used upon failed to invade, so instead they married off their prince to King An Duong's daughter. And after gaining the trust of King An Duong, he stole the Divine bow and brought it home to use it against Dai Viet. Without the divine crossbow, Dai Viet did not stand a chance and lost. It is a tragic tale. But historical findings say that this legend may have more truth to it than expected. While the "divine bow" was never seen again in Dai Viet until much later, crossbows started to be a common arm for the chinese military in 400BCE. 100 years after the legend of the Divine Bow of King An Duong. I believe this epic is a sorrowful story about the oppression of the Dai Viet people and a hopeful reminder to our modern day vietnam that we are capable of great things, despite our small size as a nation.

Hi. I am from Vietnam, and I have watched many of your videos. This has been a well-made, well-narrated video, showing a good amount of respect towards Vietnamese history. I really appreciate your effort. Still, Vietnamese history before 20th century (when the country was featured in world news with the wars with French and Americans) still remained virtually unknown to the West. Hence, I hoped that you could do more videos in the future presenting that part of Vietnamese history, covering impactful events like: Vietnamese victory against 3 times of Mongol invasion (1258, 1285, 1288) during Tran Dynasty (these victories, in my opinion, decisively stopped Mongol expansion into South East Asia, contributing to halt Mongol expansion worldwide, and probably to also the decline of Mongol empire), Vietnamese success in repelling Ming China domination (1407-1427), Tay Son' s victories against Siam invasion (1785), and Qing China invasion (1789).
@sephikong8323
@sephikong8323 5 лет назад
These three wars were impressive but you also have to keep in mind that the Mongols were used to cold climate and their bows became very ineffective in the damp and hot climate of Vietnam (this is already why they had such a hard time to conquer the Song and never got into India). So even if they won, they probably wouldn't have went any more south, it was unrealistic for them to do so, especially considering the logistical difficulties with resupply. And the downfall of their empire was more due to internal infighting and the division between each sons of part of the domain than to military defeat. This is not to downplay these achievements but to put some perspective to it

Its like saying oh the french lost in Dien Bien Phu is because they are too far away from american supply, the american lost because there are way too many anti war protestations going on in their country. Remember that the mongol empire is one of the largest empire in human history. They could easily crushed the Viet if the Viet are not unified and employed guerilla tactics.. lol

It's marvelously amazing, isn't it? Thousands of years ago women as military leaders personally leading an army into battle against their invading enemies, were absolutely unheard-of. Surprisingly, Vietnam's thousand-year history has had 2 female military leaders (the Trung siters in 40 AD and Lady Trieu in 248 AD) fiercely and fearlessly in person fighting against the invading Han Chinese Empire for their country's independence and freedom. This clearly explained why Vietnam's rich history has intrigued so many people around the world.

Underestimation often makes huge and embarrassing mistakes (which is why people notice them most in History). HOWEVER, overestimation is the true silent killer. Overestimation oftentimes means countless missed MASSIVE history-altering opportunities in history. Nevertheless, the best option is to simply have the right reconnaissance and information so we don't have to put ourselves in a position to estimate.

Thank you for doing this video. I grew up hearing about Hai Ba Trung "Two Trung Ladies/Sisters" and they're still an inspiration, especially when it comes to "girl power". Throughout Vietnam's history, there were several other badass women aside from the Trung Sisters and Lady Trieu. For example, during the Tay Son Rebellion in the late 18th century, one of Emperor Quang Trung's general is Bui Thi Xuan, who is one of the 5 Phoenix Women fighting on the Tay Son side. According to legend, Bui Thi Xuan was so fearless that she saved her husband-to-be from a tiger and faced her execution by being trampled by an elephant faced on. She was so terrifying that even the men and the elephant ordered to execute her were terrified.

Great video Epimetheus! I might be wrong but I always felt that Asian countries have had a sense of nation much earlier than European countries. I mean, China was already China when Europe was just a bunch of tribes loosely related by a common culture. For example, it wasn't until the Third Republic (19th century) that regionalism in France was chocked in favor of a national identity. I guess it has to do with administrative differences and the decentralized nature of Feudalism? Glad to have taken part in this collab with you man.

It definitely didn't help that their earlier history was practically written by their enemies, even their names written in a Roman manner. The same happened to any of the peripheral people that were in contact with a Chinese dynasty. Even their khans had sinicised names, whether they wanted it nor not (northern wei emperor xiaowen purposefully sinicised his state). On some occasions, names are just lost and we only know how they were called by the Chinese.

We were upholding our global hegemony by combatting the other attempted world hegemony on a ideological level. And it was successful. Vietnam is westernized and the Soviet Union collapsed. If you think we didn’t get what we wanted. Then you’re not paying attention. I just wish our government was more like chinas in certain aspects, so we could further push our civilizations dominance and strength. Instead governments in the west are corrupt bureaucrats who care about themselves not the civilization. Either way, we became the world hegemony and now have a military base or troops in every major nation on earth. The world is westernized. We are basically the Rome of our times. Anyways, cheers! Even with their family, women and children behind them, they could not simply beat a veteran enemy on 'heart' alone. Romans charged right into their large army in three wedge formations and never broke rank due to their discipline. Romans only lost 400 soldiers. Before then, she attacked unwalled settlements and overwhelmed local garrisons. In this regard the Trung sister were so much more successful because instead of just being a wife of a chieftain they were educated in the military manner, as shown with the scope of their victories, successful annexation of cities and ruling for two years as the Han prepared for a counteroffensive. Whereas Rome never got to the point where it needed to build up forces to sufficiently wrestle the region back into the fold.
