Great video Will. Thanks for the shout out. I love the Metalcloak skids. I have them on my 392 and my gladiator. I use and abuse them.

The engine skid on my ASFIR plates was hard to mount too. I love how light the aluminum skids are, and since I'm not a hardcore wheeler, I'm not too concerned about them not sliding as well! For anyone doing tough wheeling, steel is a no-brainer.

Great video. Thar looks like a great product! Low weight on a rug isn't near as bad as high weight! You will need to focus on cleaning the skids off from time to time.

I had a metal cloak lift and suspension on my wrangler and honestly it is the best thing I ever did. Good quality for sure. Now that I have a gladiator on 35s I really want to get those skids, I scrape frequently. Saving my Pennie’s so someday I can do it, but I have to say I’m concerned about the weight. I have a decked system & a SmartCap with a roof rack and 270 awning so I’m pushing the pounds up already. Thanks for an honest review Will.

Weight is definitely something to consider. I don’t know what I’m going to do with the Gladiator yet, but it needs protection. I’ve already scraped it too much. Thanks for watching!

That system seems pretty awesome. I was wishing I had plate under my JKU on my last big trip. Hit some pretty crazy rocks that I’m still shocked my stock Jeep did, but I definitely have some dents in things under my Jeep.

Love em! I got UnderCloak armor for my JKU before heading to the Rubicon Trail. @VictorVectorJKU made an install video that saved my bacon because the shop wasn't able to install them before my trip, so I spent Canada Day long weekend in the driveway getting them installed. By some stroke of luck, our group ran into Victor on the trail and several of us ran over to thank him as we'd had similar experiences referencing his video.

Put 37s on the 392. Do a bit more of technical trails or both overlanding and rocklanding. You'll get to 50k in no time, will. It's gonna boost your confidence much more when overlanding. In my humble opinion, alright will?
@Venture2Roam

Lol. We’re doing 38s on the 392 and 37s on the Gladiator. I’m not convinced that will do anything for my subs, but it will be fun regardless!!

It would sure seem to me that if you're not a rock crawler and you only go over rocks occasionally, as an overlander, using aluminum skids would be a better choice for you to save the weight, as weight is the enemy, and you would only very rarely benefit just a tiny bit by having steel skids sliding over rocks versus aluminum skids. I have aluminum skids on my JKUR and had it on the rocks many times, and they work great.
@Venture2Roam
@Venture2Roam 8 месяцев назад
This is almost exactly my perspective to MetalCloak. What they said to me is that..depending on the brand…it doesn’t actually save that much weight…but you can do the math on that and make the call for yourself (the proverbial “you”). It’s a good point and I think there’s interesting data on both sides.
@VideosOffRoad
@VideosOffRoad 8 месяцев назад
@@Venture2RoamWell, you have a 392, so you're not lacking for power to move that extra weight. But more weight means worse MPG, which means less range, and I can't imagine range is something a 392 has in abundance to start with. Like everything, pros and cons.

Great video! I need to get a skid plate system. How heavy is this? It looks pretty heavy. Have you noticed any difference in your engine cooling with all the air being blocked underneath?
@Venture2Roam
@Venture2Roam 4 месяца назад
I don't know exactly how heavy it is...the spec might be on the metalcloak site: bit.ly/3OOmO5o when I talked to Metalcloak about the weight, they said it's lighter than other steel skid systems...but I can't really back that up with data.

Not essential, people keep adding more and more weight to their rigs and they wonder why they break stuff.
@Venture2Roam
@Venture2Roam Месяц назад
It depends on how you're driving your rig. I'd argue that if you're wheeling your rig hard and want to protect your investment, this is essential. If you just take the occasional sketchy road, you're probably fine.
